Eleanor Woods’ “Breathe Better Backpack,” which doubles as an air filter, recently won the Backpack to the Future national competition in the United Kingdom. Inspired by her mother who has asthma to help other people with breathing difficulties and by her role model, famed environmental activist Greta Thunberg (vegan), Eleanor decided to design a backpack which reduces air pollution and airborne viruses such as Covid-19 for those wearing it as well as people out and about in the area. Powered by the sun and a dynamo which converts mechanical energy into electrical energy, the bag has an air filter in the front pocket and small fans to clean the air. The contest was sponsored by the Institution of Engineering and Technology and fashion brand Hype.

Congratulations, Eleanor Woods, for your thoughtful invention. We hope that your backpack becomes widely available and that your vision for a cleaner planet soon comes true, in Divine radiance.
