A new peer-reviewed study led by Shining World Compassion Award recipient Professor Andrew Knight (vegan) of the University of Winchester in the United Kingdom examines the important benefits of switching our animal-companion friends to a plant-based diet. Published in the journal Plos One, the study found that if the world’s dog- and cat-citizens went vegan, it would spare the lives of billions of animal-individuals currently used as food for companion animal-residents and offer important environmental benefits. The switch would also support global food security and help feed nearly half a billion humans, as a vegan diet frees up agricultural land and conserves fresh water. This benevolent change would also mean a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to the amount produced annually by the United Kingdom and New Zealand combined.

Our appreciation, Professor Andrew Knight, for this important study. May your work help allow our beloved companion animal friends to also aid in saving the planet as part of the global vegan family, in the grace of the Divine.
