Selections from The Golestan of Sa'di – Chapter II: The Morals of Dervishes, Part 1 of 2

Abu Moḥammad Mošarref-al-Din Moṣleḥ b. ʿAbd-Allāh Širāzi better known by his pen name Sa'di, was a preeminent Persian mystic, poet and prose writer. Scripted in exquisite, delicately didactic verse, Bustan, translated as The Orchard, consists of narratives that illustrate the standard moral virtues – which include justice, gratitude, modesty, love, beneficence, and contentment – and explores musings on the ecstatic faith and deeds of the Sufi dervishes, in order to promote a well-lived, happier life. Authored a year later in 1258 CE, his last work, Golestan, is comprised mainly of prose interspersed with short poems. The title, meaning Flower Garden, represents a metaphor for a cultivated, sacred garden of the psyche wherein Sa’di, through his poems and stories, has soulfully planted seeds of wisdom which bloom gloriously within the reader. We now invite you to enjoy excerpts from “The Golestan of Sa'di.” The Golestan of Sa'di Chapter II The Morals of Dervishes “One of the great devotees having been asked about his opinion concerning a hermit whom others had censured in their conversation, he replied: ‘I do not see any external blemishes on him and do not know of internal ones.’ Whomsoever thou see in a religious habit Consider him to be a religious and good man And, if thou know not his internal condition, What business has the muhtasib inside the house?” “I have craved pardon for the deficiency of my service Because I can implore no reward for my obedience. Sinners repent of their transgressions. Arifs ask forgiveness for their imperfect worship. Devotees desire a reward for their obedience and merchants [desire] the price of their wares but I, who am a worshipper, have brought hope and not obedience. I have come to beg and not to trade. Whether thou kill me or forgive my crime, my face and head are on thy threshold. ” “A great man was praised in an assembly and, his good qualities being extolled, he raised his head and said: ‘I am such as I know myself to be.’ My person is, to the eyes of the world, of good aspect, But my internal wickedness makes me droop my head with shame.”

Essenes: Through Purity May We Reach God

The Essenes were peaceful people. All members regarded and assisted one another as equals. They lived communally, sharing all things. In this way, all their needs were easily met. The Essenes ascribed all things to God. Their deep understanding that they were eternal souls and were only on Earth for a short time. This understanding made them very cautious about doing anything. Their physical purity, attained primarily from the simplicity of their vegetarian diet, allowed many of them to live over a hundred years. Death, however, was something they never feared, since, having pursued the spiritual path with great determination, they could expect to enjoy in the endless bliss of Heavenly realms.

Exploring the Afterlife with Dr. Diane Corcoran, Part 1 of 2

Over the past few decades, thousands of people have reported having near-death experiences or NDEs, and several books have been written about the fascinating things they witnessed. For many, the NDE profoundly changed how they look at and live their lives. Why does this experience have such a powerful impact? What does a person see or realize during an NDE? In this program, we interviewed Dr. Diane Corcoran, President of the International Association for Near-Death Studies.

From the Sacred Text of the Universal White Brotherhood: Conclusion of the Lecture, The Mindful Heart

Be ready to sacrifice yourselves because of that great Love, because of the Lord, Who wills to limit Himself in order to come to live in us! Be ready to sacrifice every situation! That is what made Christ exceptional. Where is Divine Love? In obedience. Some day in the future there will not be suffering. Christ will not be crucified in the world again. Why? Well, there is not such a big tree on which to crucify Him. There is not such a big tree to carry that Christ, Who is living today in the hearts of five hundred million people.

From the Holy Bible: The First Epistle of Saint Peter, Part 2 of 2

"Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil. Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed."

From Zoroastrianism’s Sacred Menog-i Khrad: Chapters 4-13, Part 1 of 2

Zoroaster was a prophet who lived in ancient Iran around 1800 BC. The teachings that emerged from his visions of God have become known as Zoroastrianism. Zoroastrian theology’s main tenets include the existence of one God and the personal happiness or reward that is the natural outcome of using one’s free will to formulate good thoughts, good words and good deeds. Respecting all life, Zoroaster was himself a pure vegetarian and forbade all animal sacrifice. His universal philosophy is believed to have influenced Greek thought and major revealed religions of the world.

Ключът към теософията: Теософски учения за природата и човека - част 2 от 2

Ключът към теософията: Теософски учения за природата и човека - част 2 от 2

Theosophical doctrine shows man a quintile just after death, in Kamaloka; and a threefold Ego, Spirit-Soul, and consciousness in Devachan. This separation, first in “the Meadows of Hades,” then in Devachan, was part and parcel of the performances during the sacred Mysteries, when the candidates for initiation enacted for the whole drama of death, and the resurrection as a glorified spirit. What is Devachan? The “land of gods” literally; a condition, a state of mental bliss. Philosophically a mental condition analogous to, but far more vivid and real than, the most vivid dream. It is the state after death of most mortals.

The Holy Qur’an : Chap 43

The wise teachings of Prophet Muhqmmad, Peace Be Upon Him. The Koran-Chapter 43 Ornaments of Gold. In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. Ha Mim. I swear by the Book that makes things clear. Surely We have made it an Arabic Qur'an that you may understand. And if you should ask them, Who created the heavens and the Earth? The Mighty, the Knowing One, has created them; and say: Glory to Him Who made this subservient to us and we were not able to do it. And surely to our Lord we must return.

Selection from Songs of Kabir, Part 2 of 2

00:20:33

Selection from Songs of Kabir, Part 2 of 2

In India, the religious community which recognizes Kabir as their Prophet is called Kabir Panth. Compositions of Kabir have been compiled into the holy Biyak, considered as sacred scriptures for devotees of Kabir Panth. It is believed that Kabir was brought up into the Islamic faith by Muslim weavers. A common name in the Islamic world, Kabir or al-Kabir, means the Great One. It is also one of the names of God given in the Qur’an. IT is evident in Kabir’s philosophy the synthesis between Hindu and Muslim thought. He has said himself, “at once the child of Allah and of Ram.”
