Prison Animal Programs: Transforming Lives through Love

Prison Animal Programs: Transforming Lives through Love

Some correctional facilities offer animal-assisted therapy as a form of treatment to selected inmates who demonstrate good behavior. Today, we find out about the benefits of these programs, how they work, and why they have been proven effective. In Australia, the Queensland Corrective Services runs the minimum-security Palen Creek Correctional Centre. The Centre works with a program that finds homes for greyhounds. Liam the greyhound was fostered by an inmate so he would become accustomed to life as an animal companion. Let’s now hear from Liam’s foster father at the Centre regarding his experiences as a program participant. “He’s also never judgmental; he’s happy no matter what your mood is and what you’re doing. So he’s happy to cruise around and smile and be with you. I think also having an animal involved in this program helps with the communication between officers and inmates.” Animals love us for who we are. Some animals even can touch individuals who do not show emotion, including the inmates sometimes referred to as the “tough guys” in incarceration facilities. Dogs and cats can help to teach prisoners about care and gentleness. Correctional facility-based animal programs save the lives of animals and aid inmates in growing in humanity and expanding their personal development.

Theoklitos Proestakis: Savior of Crete’s Homeless Dogs and Cats

Today we will share a touching story about a wonderful man who is a Shining World Compassion Award laureate and has rescued over 1,000 abandoned or stray dogs and cats. He has to work 20 hours each day and hardly has any time to rest, only sleeping 2-3 hours daily. “But for me, I just feel that I want to help them when I see these dogs suffering from pain. They have a soul, so I want to help them. It makes me feel so good.” In 2019, along with giving Theoklitos Proestakis the Shining World Compassion Award to recognize his splendid work on behalf of homeless animals, Supreme Master Ching Hai made a kind contribution of US$15,000 to the Takis Shelter. And as this show is being presented to you, Supreme Master Ching Hai: further "arrange to send US$30,000 to this compassionate shelter. With all love and tears of sympathy as well as gratitude to Theoklitos Proestakis and all helpers."

YouCare: The “Good Deeds” Search Engine, Part 1 of 2

13:37

YouCare: The “Good Deeds” Search Engine, Part 1 of 2

On today’s program we’ll meet Thomas Moreau from Levallois-Perret, France, the Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of YouCare. “We specialize in doing good deeds around the world thanks to our charitable search engine. We were only two partners in the beginning and today we are a team of five that run the project. Youcare was conceived with a very simple mission -- the goal of the company is to make the world a better place.” “There are seven different good deeds in Youcare, which have different themes. One of the good deeds is, for example, offering meals to animals in shelters, in order to defend the animal cause. After 45 searches on Youcare, you will be able to offer one meal to animals in shelters. Today, it’s been two years and we have managed to give more than 900,000 meals to animals in shelters. There are over 100,000 people who use Youcare on a daily basis, about 70% of the community will be involved in this good deed.” “Among the other good actions that exist on Youcare, there is the fact that we can remove plastic from the oceans. So, we’re going to help associations that will carry out missions to collect plastic waste, especially on the beaches.” “We also work with nurseries that will replant trees throughout the world, that will reforest entire parcels of land that have been deforested. For example, we have a French partner association called Forest Calling, with whom we work and who buys forests to make sanctuaries, to be sure that they will never be deforested again. At the same time, we will help them to reforest the whole area that was deforested.” Our beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai also uses internet technology as a vehicle to uplift the world. “But things are different today. There are Internet, e-mail, Skype, telephone, and other ways to communicate so the whole world knows. The whole world knows if you’re a tyrant or an inept leader. Not only does your country know, the whole world also knows if you’re an incompetent bureaucrat or official. So, you’d better check yourself. Our time is different from the olden times. It’s wonderful and I’m very happy about it.”

Nemonte Nenquimo: Amazonian Environmental Hero

Nemonte Nenquimo: Amazonian Environmental Hero

Nemonte Nenquimo is an Indigenous Waorani woman and champion of the environment. She was named as one of TIME magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2020, one of the first Amazonians ever to be featured on the list and the only Indigenous woman nominated that year. In the same year, Ms. Nenquimo also appeared on the BBC 100 Women 2020 list, was given the Goldman Environmental Prize, and was honored with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)’s “Champions of the Earth” award for Inspiration and Action. Oil companies have released waste into the Ecuadorian waterways and polluted the land, causing Indigenous Peoples to be displaced. Witnessing such devastating effects from the oil companies’ activities, Ms. Nenquimo has dedicated her life to defending her ancestral land, ecosystem, culture, and way of life. The same year, Ecuador decided to hold an auction for oil extraction rights spread over 2.8 million hectares of primary Amazon forest. Ms. Nenquimo, serving as the plaintiff, co-filed a lawsuit against the Ecuadorian government for violating the Waorani’s right to free, prior, and informed consent as it did not seek permission to auction the oil rights of their land. In April 2019, the judges ruled in favor of the Waorani people. Indigenous Peoples own or manage one-quarter of the world’s land, and their land rights should be respected and recognized. The oil projects in the Amazon not only threaten the lives of Indigenous Peoples but also destroy wildlife, biodiversity, and thousands of unique plants in “the lungs of the Earth.” Ms. Nenquimo asks the world to stand with native inhabitants to defend their rainforest from oil drilling. “If we don’t do that, life will be cut short for future generations. There will be no more trees, clean water, or air left. We, the Indigenous People who live connected to the forests, will disappear first, and then the planet as well.” Ms. Nenquimo also helped her people stay away from oil company subsidies by installing a rainwater harvesting system and solar panels. Similarly, she has supported women-led organic cacao and chocolate businesses to help the Waorani maintain independence from the oil industry.

Successful Refugees and Immigrants Leading the Way, Part 14 of a Multi-part Series: From Syrian Refugee to Olympic Athlete – Yusra Mardinii

Successful Refugees and Immigrants Leading the Way, Part 14 of a Multi-part Series: From Syrian Refugee to Olympic Athlete – Yusra Mardinii

Today, we will introduce another remarkable refugee, Yusra Mardini. She bravely saved her companions during an extremely dangerous escape from Syria in 2015 and became an Olympic swimmer a year later. Now she is also a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, dedicating her voice to speaking up for millions of refugees around the world. In 2015, an unexploded bomb pierced through the roof of the swimming pool where she trained. This was the turning point when she realized she had to leave Syria to live a life beyond strife and swim again. When the Mardini sisters arrived in Berlin, Germany, they stayed in an overcrowded refugee camp at first, and Yusra felt the negative connotations of the word refugee. However, she was determined to pursue her dream to become an Olympic swimmer. In early 2016, the International Olympic Committee announced that a first-ever Refugee Olympic Team would join the Summer Olympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the same year. Ms. Mardini was identified as one of the 43 candidates to potentially qualify for the team, but she initially hesitated as she wanted to compete in the Olympics on merit, not out of pity. Yet, she agreed to race after her parents convinced her that she earned and deserved the nomination. She realized that it’s not just about herself and thought, “It’s about the community that I’m fighting for. It’s about refugees. It’s about athletes. It’s about swimmers. It’s about being a voice for people who don’t have a voice.”Since her participation with the 2016 Refugee Olympic Team, Yusra Mardini has become a powerhouse for refugee rights. She has spoken on the topic during her meetings with His Holiness Pope Francis, the then-President of the United States, His Excellency Barack Obama, as well as other world leaders. In September 2016, she advocated for refugees to have access to safe shelter, education, livelihoods and training opportunities at the Leaders’ Summit on the Global Refugee Crisis held at the United Nations. “I want to help change people’s perceptions of what a refugee is. For everyone to understand, it is not a choice to flee from your home. Refugees are normal people who can achieve great things if given the opportunity.”

Reverend Pastor Robert Munro (vegan) of The Humanitarian Church

14:22

Reverend Pastor Robert Munro (vegan) of The Humanitarian Church

Reverend Pastor Robert Munro, or as he likes to be called, Pastor Rob, is the founder of The Saint Francis of Assisi Parish of The Humanitarian Church – a whole food, plant-based vegan house of worship in Erieville, New York, USA. Pastor Rob preaches a vegan sermon there every Sunday. The Humanitarian Church’s mission is “To introduce the Whole Food Plant Based Diet to impoverished, unhealthy communities throughout the world so as to provide freedom from illness… and cease the consumption of animal products so as to honor the commandment, ‘THOU SHALT NOT KILL’.” In 2010, at the age of 50, Pastor Rob’s life changed when he suffered his third stroke. His left side was paralyzed, his left eye was blind, and he was unable to talk or walk. The doctors gave him six months to live. Twenty-six days after becoming vegan, the paralysis on his left side was gone, his vision returned, and he stopped slurring and drooling. Not only did he fully recover, but he also became healthier than ever. Two years after becoming vegan, he experienced a profound spiritual moment, realizing that animal flesh in the body blocks the connection to God. “So, I decided to give everything to the church, live on minimal things, just (vegan) food. Because I need 5,000 lifetimes to make up for the 5,000 animals that died for me to eat them. I can't create life. So the best I can do is give my life in the service of God.” Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Gratefully present Reverend Pastor Robert Munro with the Shining World Compassion Award, along with a humble loving gift of US$10,000 to support your vegan Humanitarian Church. Lots of love, praises and prayers for your mission’s success, in God’s mercy.”

Celebrating Miracles on Supreme Master Ching Hai Day

Celebrating Miracles on Supreme Master Ching Hai Day

In our times, Supreme Master Ching Hai came to Earth with the mission to save the planet and all sentient beings. Her boundless love reaches out to beings in all directions offering blessings and enlightenment. Her Love is beyond human comprehension and Her spiritual Radiance expands across universes. Supreme Master Ching Hai’s mission is to save the world and the animals, but also includes saving the souls of all beings. “So, the Buddhas and Christ, any Saint, rescue all the people, all the beings in this world, as long as They are in this world. All beings are or will be uplifted recently because your Master is stronger now. Before, She could not promise, but now She can. I need to go also on retreat more. It’s for other things, to lessen the suffering of the animals and humans. But all will be uplifted, except some exceptions, that I will read to you. All beings on this planet, as long as I live, as long as your Master lives, She will uplift them all to the New Land, but gradually; depends.” “By the way, you know what? Maya is gone! Forgot to tell you. I like that very much. Wow, a lot of work, but I really cannot bear that guy anymore. I know everything is illusion, for me; but for all the beings, they are not illusion. They are in true suffering, pain, sorrow, anguish, untold misery. And another thing, the negative force is also gone. Bye-bye! One more thing, not yet. And the force of karma is? ( Gone.) Gone! Bye-bye! These three things I took care. But still, not like completely clean. It’s the beginning of a Heaven kind of energy. And then I asked Them, ‘Done?’ They said, ‘Yes.’ And They’re all jumping and the whole universe, oh, endless of beings that you cannot even see how many. You can only see some in the front, jumping and crying, ‘Maya is gone, maya is gone, maya is gone!’ And they’re just jumping and crying, happy, very much.” Thanks to Her spiritual work and intensive meditation retreats, countless beings were fully liberated from the entanglement of lower realms. “These are only for the dead people who suffer in hell or in some unfavorable realm. If difficult to take care, during retreat, can take care. So, all together, it’s about 731,114,123 souls.”

New Story and ICON: Pioneering Solutions to Homelessness

When Brett Hagler of the United States was 18, he developed a rare form of cancer. Surviving that experience changed the way he thought about his life and what really matters. Brett visited Haiti several years after the 2010 earthquake and was shocked to see tens of thousands of people still living in tents and other temporary accommodations. When he returned to San Francisco, California, USA, he met Alexandria Lafci, who shared his sentiments, and together they decided to develop ways of providing housing to families that need it the most. With their friend, Matthew Marshall, they cofounded a nonprofit called New Story Charity, and started raising money through crowdfunding to build five homes in Haiti. The success of New Story’s first project inspired Brett and Alexandria to challenge themselves. In 2017, New Story connected with a construction technologies company in Austin, Texas, USA, that had reached the same conclusion. Jason Ballard, co-founder and CEO of ICON, was looking for a home-building solution that would be affordable, scalable and sustainable. New Story and ICON partnered to design a 3D printer that could build a house. Instead of extruding plastic like smaller 3D printers, their machine pumps out a special mortar-like material that they call “Lavacrete.” New Story and ICON have evolved the printer and the process so that they can provide homes even faster and cheaper. The second iteration of the 3D printer is called the Vulcan II. It is gantry-style on rails, meaning a bridge-like structure with a platform that supports the actual printer as it moves around the building’s floor plan. ICON’s Lavacrete is adaptable for ambient temperature and humidity, the altitude of the location as well as the desired printing speed. With the Vulcan II, all mixing, pumping and delivery are automated via the software, thus no manual measuring or dumping is required. Using a layer-by-layer approach, Lavacrete is extruded from the printer head and stacked up according to a digital model. Finished structures are beautiful in their simplicity, long-lasting and afford protection from extreme weather conditions. At New Story, the word “employee” is not used. They prefer to think of themselves as a team of founders. They cherish a shared vision of putting an end to homelessness and consider it a rare privilege to be able to give hope and happiness to so many people.

Cruelty Free International: Paving the Way for Compassionate Shopping

Every year, millions of beings suffer and die in laboratories all over the world from chemical, drug, food, and cosmetic testing. One of the leading organizations working with a singular focus to end animal-people experimentation worldwide, the UK-based Cruelty Free International, is helping to create a planet where no one considers that testing on persons of the animal kingdom is ever an option. Cruelty Free International came to life in the United Kingdom on June 14, 1898, at a public meeting in Bristol, under the leadership of Frances Power Cobbe, who among other things, was a great champion for women’s rights, philanthropist, and caring supporter of people of the animal kingdom’s rights. Let us take a look at some of the strategies this benevolent organization has used to help in ending the suffering of our animal friends. First, it has disclosed and publicized the real life and suffering of animal kingdom persons in laboratories by investigations and organized campaigns worldwide to end experimentation. Also, it has worked with governments around the world, prepared constructive proposals, and connected with politicians, decision-makers, and compassionate people to build support and gain public awareness to make policy changes on testing. In addition, Cruelty Free International has utilized legal challenges to enforce animal kingdom people’s rights laws. Lastly, through research and spreading the latest scientific knowledge, the group is promoting humane alternatives to replace animal tests, and supporting companies and retailers who have adopted a cruelty-free system in developing and selling their products. Michelle Thew, chief executive of Cruelty Free International, has talked about why we should forever be against testing. “You don’t need the animal tests. We’ve replaced all of the really archaic cruel tests that we used to do on animals, and we can do them more effectively now without using animals.” The Leaping Bunny logo of Cruelty Free International has become a trusted symbol of authentic cruelty-free products that consumers can rely on, and manufacturers can use, to show that their products have not been tested on animals. The Leaping Bunny program certifies cruelty-free cosmetics, personal care and household products and is regarded as the global gold standard.

Jennifer Stojkovic (vegan): Empowering Female Vegan Entrepreneurs

Today, March 8, is International Women's Day. In honor of this occasion, we profile an influential vegan woman who is passionately dedicated to inspiring and empowering businesswomen worldwide who are leading or creating new plant-based ventures. Jennifer Stojkovic, originally from Canada, has established herself as an influential community relations leader for tech companies in San Francisco, United States. Along the way, Jennifer became aware of the disadvantages women entrepreneurs face. In response, she started the Vegan Women Summit (VWS) in early 2020. It is the world’s first “global events and media organization created to empower female-identifying change-makers to bring compassion to their careers.” VWS’s Pathfinder program is the world’s first women founder summit dedicated to plant-based innovation and business development. Over 800 applications from 31 countries were received, 60% of which were from women founders of color. Renana Krebs, the winner of the VWS Pathfinder 2020 competition, is the co-founder and CEO of Algalife, an Israeli startup that focuses on creating bio-textiles from cleaner and greener algae-based fibers and dyes; this production method has enormous potential to resolve the overconsumption of resources by the fashion industry as well as the pollution and waste it generates. Dr. Courtney Blagrove’s Whipped Urban Dessert Lab is the world’s first oat-milk soft serve ice cream shop, offering a full array of dazzling and delicious vegan desserts in New York City, USA. Miyoko Schinner, the renowned vegan founder and CEO of the award-winning American dairy-free brand Miyoko’s Creamery praised the Pathfinder event. While helping to shape this ecosystem for female founders, Jennifer Stojkovic has noticed another positive aspect of VWS’s work. She said, “We have discovered more than one-third of female founders entering the space move towards a more plant-based diet after founding their company. We are eager to explore this opportunity and create a mainstream entry point into the industry for founders coming from all backgrounds."

Being Guardian Angels for Each Other, Part 1 of 2

12:36

Being Guardian Angels for Each Other, Part 1 of 2

Today, we are going to introduce a few heart-warming stories that show how people give unconditionally in tough times. Ms. Donna LaMonaca is a supervisory officer working in the Johnstown-Cambria County Airport for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in Pennsylvania, USA. She has worked for the federal agency for 18 years and been recognized by her employer for helping the elderly to make COVID-19 vaccine appointments. Ms. LaMonaca volunteered her time to help the elderly book vaccine appointments by sacrificing her sleep. She has also used her off days to take the elderly to get vaccinated, with her 13-year-old son Geno tagging along to help fill out the required forms. The following story shows that we should always do whatever we can to help each other. Mitchell Couch is a resident of Lemoore, California, USA. When the pandemic forced schools to shift to distance learning, he noticed that many kids, including his own four, were using the kitchen table for online learning, which interfered with family time due to the learning materials being scattered all over. As an experienced carpenter for 20 years, he decided to build desks for his kids so that they each had their own place to study and store their books and supplies. After a few hours, he made two desks and posted them on social media. He then started to get feedback and questions from the community about those desks, so much so that he made a short video on YouTube with step-by-step instructions to teach people how to build the desk themselves. His small action inspired more people. It is often said that we’re blessed more when we give rather than when we receive. Supreme Master Ching Hai teaches Her disciples to follow this principle. “When you give to people who are truly needy, you'll feel so good, and it will be just like receiving a gift yourself. You will feel the happiness of that person. So his happiness becomes yours. But I'm even happier than he is. Do you know why? It's because I can feel his happiness, plus I can feel my own happiness in giving. So I have two kinds of happiness. So I'm happier than him. The one who gives is happier than the one who receives. It's just like this.”

Backpacks For The Street: Bringing Hope to the Homeless

In today’s episode, we will travel to New York City in the United States of America, where we will meet a couple who has been giving out backpacks filled with hope and care to thousands of homeless people. In December 2020, there were 56,849 homeless men, women and children in New York City; this is about 14% of all homeless people in America. Many are using the municipal shelter system, but thousands still live on the streets without adequate protection from the elements. Thankfully, there are many goodhearted people and charitable organizations whose mission is to comfort these souls, help them to feel noticed and bring them love and happiness through material and emotional help. Backpacks For The Street was founded in February 2018 by the couple Jeffrey Newman and Jayson Conner. Jeffrey says: “This is about hope. This is about showing people who feel invisible and forgotten about that they matter and that someone cares.” The first Backpacks For The Street event took place in March 2018. This outreach effort, which was funded within 72 hours, resulted in the distribution of 75 backpacks filled with daily necessities. Initially, the plan was to distribute the backpacks on a quarterly basis, but it was so clear that the project was making a difference in many lives that the couple decided to do it daily throughout the year. Mr. Newman shared, "We’re very happy to be doing it; it’s a labor of love." On one day, the group walked nearly 130 kilometers over the span of 16 hours to find those in need.Mr. Newman, Mr. Conner and the volunteer team bring not only physical comfort to the homeless, but they also touch their hearts by showing them that they are acknowledged, cared for and loved. Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Thankfully present the Shining World Compassion Award to Backpacks For The Street, plus a humble, loving contribution of US$10,000 to support this benevolent endeavor, with all love, gratitude and best wishes, in Heaven’s grace.”

Amy Jean Davis (vegan): LA Animal Save and Love Always Sanctuary Founder, Part 1 of 2

Amy Jean Davis (vegan): LA Animal Save and Love Always Sanctuary Founder, Part 1 of 2

Amy Jean Davis is an American actress, pop singer and film production manager. She was a top 24 Finalist on season 7 of the famed singing competition “American Idol.” Besides being a celebrity, she is also known for her animal-people rights advocacy and being a spokesperson for the Animal Save Movement. Before being involved in animal-people rights, Amy had been a vegan for years.Amy has established an animal-people center in Sun Valley, California, called the “Love Always Sanctuary” for around 70 residents rescued from animal-people factories and elsewhere. “We need people to see that these animals are amazing, just as amazing as the dogs and cats that they know. A lot of people don’t know that turkeys love to cuddle. You sit down on the ground, and they’ll come right up to you and want to sit in your lap. Basically, any animal, whether they were bred for food or not, will behave this way if they’re cared for and they’re loved.”Besides running the sanctuary, Amy has other avenues to also help more precious animal-people friends. In 2016, Amy started LA Animal Save, which is the Los Angeles chapter of the Animal Save Movement, an organization co-founded by Dr. Anita Krajnc, a Shining World Compassion Award recipient. “And the mission of Animal Save Movement is to bear witness at slaughterhouses to every exploited animal. We also are working to reverse climate change by defunding animal agriculture. And we also want to make plant-based diets accessible to everyone, so everyone has the ability to eat a healthy diet and have a long, healthy life.”Animal Save Movement’s events have had a very measurable impact on the public. Many realize they no longer want to be part of a barbaric food system that kills and hurts our animal-people friends. “Those are the common stories that happen because of the power that an individual has just for existing. And when you witness that individual’s suffering, you're changed in a way that you want to live so you're not participating in that.”

Brave Protector of Marine Life: Captain Paul Watson of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, Part 2 of 3 (INT)

Brave Protector of Marine Life: Captain Paul Watson of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, Part 2 of 3 (INT)

And now, it’s been proven that it is probably one of the most significant threats to the survival of life in the sea. If anybody eats fish, they are eating plastic. Microplastic is now in fish; it’s in meat; it’s in the soil; it’s everywhere. And it’s a non-biodegradable substance, but the problem is that also it attracts things like PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) and other chemicals to it, almost like a magnet. And so, it’s a way for people when they’re eating fish, they eat plastic, they also eat PCBs and other chemicals in that form. I think it’s one of the most insidious threats right now to the survival of all life in the ocean. And of course, that means to all life on the planet.

Sea Shepherd was created in 1977, and its mission is “to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species.” The organization sets itself apart from many other of our animal protection entities as its fleet of 15 ships uses innovative direct-action methods to provide security to endangered animals. Sea shepherd has chapters all over the world, and these are volunteers who, in their own communities, come together and are a support base for the operation of the ships and the campaigns.

Dr. Anita Krajnc (vegan) and the Animal Save Movement, Part 1 of 3

Dr. Anita Krajnc (vegan) and the Animal Save Movement, Part 1 of 3

Today, we have the honor of meeting Dr. Krajnc, the Canadian co-founder of Toronto Pig Save and the worldwide Animal Save Movement. Anita is a former political science professor at Queen’s University in the province of Ontario, Canada, who has studied how social movements move forward through public education. She is also a vegan. “Toronto Pig Save started doing 3 vigils a week in July 2011, and what we did was we would bear witness to the pigs on a traffic island when the trucks would stop. It’s such a powerful thing to meet the animals before they go to the slaughterhouse and to see their faces and look into their eyes. We called it bearing witness.” One of the devoted volunteers at Toronto Pig Save was the late Regan Russell. A former model, she had been advocating for animal rights since 1977. In late 2019, a bill was introduced in Ontario’s legislature making it illegal to interact with animals while they are being transported and expose the violence against animals in slaughterhouses and farms. Anita, Regan, and many other animal rights activists vehemently opposed the bill. It was passed into law on June 17, 2020. Two days later, it was a very hot day, and Regan and the other activists were giving water to the pigs on the trucks. Regan stood for several minutes in the road in front of the slaughterhouse to stop a truck so that the pigs could get water. The truck accelerated unexpectedly. Regan was killed. Vigils were held all over the world for Regan Russell. This beautiful soul’s compassion and her belief in justice and peace for all animals will always be remembered. We thank Dr. Anita Krajnc and her fellow animal advocates for their courage, and hope we can all work together to make the Earth a kinder and more beautiful place. Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Gratefully present Dr. Anita Krajnc with the Shining World Compassion Award, with a humble, loving gift of US$15,000 towards your noble organizations, Toronto Pig Save and the Animal Save Movement. Lots of love, praises and prayers for your safety and success, in God’s mercy.”

SEA LIFE Trust: Safeguarding Marine Life and Habitats, Part 1 of 3

SEA LIFE Trust: Safeguarding Marine Life and Habitats, Part 1 of 3

In today’s show, we are going to introduce a group of good people who are devoted to protecting the world’s oceans and marine lives. SEA LIFE Trust is a charity registered in England and Wales, United Kingdom, and a Shining World Compassion Award recipient. It champions, “the need for plastic-free oceans and an end to the over-exploitation of marine life through global projects and campaigns,” and runs marine animal sanctuaries. “We do that in three main ways. We campaign to make that difference for marine life. We’ve campaigned successfully to help create new marine protected areas across the world. We’ve campaigned to reduce plastic pollution as well and encourage people to change their behavior to help reduce that problem.” “We have a seal sanctuary in the UK, which rescues, rehabilitates, and releases sick and injured seal pups every year. And our newest sanctuary is actually a world first. It's the Beluga Whale Sanctuary in Iceland, which will be home to two whales coming from an aquarium or water park in Shanghai in China to live in a bay in Iceland in a more natural environment.” “So the other way we work, every year on June 8, World Oceans Day, we run a global beach clean in partnership with SEA LIFE across the world. We start at sunup or in the morning over in New Zealand and go throughout a 24-hour period across the world with SEA LIFE staff and volunteers going out onto beaches across the world and removing plastic litter from the beaches.” In January 2019, along with giving the SEA LIFE Trust the Shining World Compassion Award to recognize its noble work, Supreme Master Ching Hai also made a “humble contribution of US$15,000 towards the charity’s dolphin and whale care, with all love and gratitude in God’s mercy. May you and all involved as well as the whales, be protected always by the Providence.”

Back in 1979, if you said the word “vegan,” nobody even knew what you were talking about - from the planet Vega or something. Nobody knew what you were talking about. So, now, that’s pretty much universal. And the amazing thing about veganism is the incredible surge, about a 600% increase in the last couple of years in people choosing veganism as an alternative. And I think that’s going to grow because one of the things I’ve discovered over the years from social movements is that it doesn’t take a majority to carry out anything.
