I have a helpful tip for you. Window wells that aren’t properly covered can be accidental traps for many animal-people including toad-, bird-, rabbit-, salamander-, turtle-, raccoon-, mole-, snake-, and opossum-persons. These co-inhabitants can climb and fall into window wells and may not be able to escape. You can help trapped wildlife by taking them out by hand, if they are small like a toad-, rabbit-, or turtle-individual. You can also use a broom to carefully move them into a bucket. When you release them on a property, ensure you do so away from a window well. If an animal-person is bigger like an opossum-, raccoon-, or snapping turtle-folks, set a rough board at an angle in the window well so they can climb out on their own. Prevent people of all species from getting trapped in the window well by securing a plastic or metal cover over it. If you install a metal cover, it is best to use one with little grate holes so that smaller animal-people don’t drop in. Placing the cover flush against the well and wall makes certain that nobody crawls into the open spaces and gaps.
