Among younger generations, especially Gen Z, there is a noticeable shift toward personal spiritual exploration rather than strict adherence to institutional religion. This has contributed to the rise of what is often called the “Spiritual But Not Religious,” or SBNR, movement. Since around 2020, online content focused on near-death experiences, consciousness, and the supernatural has moved from niche audiences into broader public awareness. “Something beyond immediate experience.” “I think what religion has done can be wrapped up in three words: ‘Belonging, Becoming, and Beyond.’”

Rather than building new institutions, many modern initiatives focus on integrating meaningful practices into everyday environments such as workplaces, creative spaces, communities, and digital platforms. With support from TWCF, in 2025 Sacred Design Lab launched spiritualinnovation.org– a global platform designed to connect individuals exploring new forms of spiritual expression and community-building. Among those contributing innovators, actor and author Rainn Wilson (veg advocate), has explored spiritual themes on this new platform: “What's the next step? How then do we take the compassion we feel for ourselves and put it to work in the world and make the world a more safe, healthy, well, and united place?”

Our Most Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai (vegan) emphasizes that “compassion” is the only way to save humanity after She resolved the threat of the Third World War recently. “Heaven feels very reluctant to help humans anymore because of so much lamenting, crying, and pain and suffering, and oppression and imprisonment of animal-people, and the killing of babies. […]” “So please change your lifestyle into one more befitting of a true, noble, majestic human. […]”
