Jainism seeks to attain enlightenment and liberation from the cycle of death and rebirth. Jain practitioners strive to achieve this by following the five ethical principles, which govern thought, speech, and action. In accordance to their beliefs of ahimsa and compassion, all devotees follow a strict vegetarian diet. The “three jewels” or “triple gems” of Jainism-right vision, right knowledge, and right conduct-give the Jain practitioners a path to liberation to return to the state where the soul has shed its karmic bonds completely and achieved to ultimate goal of divine consciousness.
