The esteemed Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira Mebarak, a 3-time Grammy Award and 13-time Latin Grammy Award winner. Her mark on pop music is so impressive. In 1997, Shakira started a charity called “FundaciÓn Pies Descalzos” with the purpose of helping impoverished Colombian children. To date, FundaciÓn Pies Descalzos and its US counterpart, the Barefoot Foundation have built six state-of-the-art schools in Colombia to serve displaced and underprivileged children.The Barefoot Foundation is also active in Haiti and South Africa.
