Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Healthcare for the Homeless – Houston

Founded in 1999 and incorporated in 2000, Healthcare for the Homeless – Houston (HHH) is a nonprofit organization that exclusively provides care for homeless people in the US city of Houston, Texas. HHH offers a variety of services, including transportation, medical and dental care, street outreach and housing programs. “Give health. Give hope. Give dignity” is the motto of this deeply compassionate nonprofit organization. “What we want to do is to be able to wrap services around people that are either literally still living on the streets or people who are in shelters or very vulnerable to losing their housing. We take very seriously our mission to promote health and promote hope, but especially to promote dignity. We believe that all people should be treated with respect and dignity regardless of their life circumstances.” For almost two decades, they have served approximately 8,500 people annually in the Houston area, ensuring that no one is declined treatment based on their ability to pay. Last year, 92% of those who received care from the program had no form of health insurance.
