Minerals and gemstones are prized resources of planet Earth and for millennia, they have been part of human society. Gemstones encompass a wide variety of minerals and rocks that have long been recognized and valued by humans for their exceptional qualities.

Apart from their geological value, gemstones also carry aesthetic and economic value. For centuries the possession of certain gems has been seen as a symbol of beauty and prestige in human societies. Let’s take a look at several of the world’s most prized gemstones.

Blue-violet zoisite or Tanzanite is highly valued due to its rarity in regard to beauty and supply. When viewed from different angles and in different lighting, the crystal shimmers various hues of violet and blue.

The emerald, a type of green beryl, shares a long history with almost all ancient civilizations, such as those of Egypt, India, Greece, Ireland, and China. Deriving its rich green color from chromium, or vanadium, this gorgeous gem has won the hearts of many and is often associated with good luck, abundance, growth, and other auspicious qualities.

Thai rubies are known for their deep red color, high transparency, and clarity. Held in high regard by many, rubies are often used when describing precious human qualities to highlight their value.

However, the desire for precious minerals and gemstones has led to significant environmental damage due to the mining industry's use of chemicals and other common standard practices. It’s high time for governments, businesses, and individuals to support sustainable development by recycling and using alternative materials. Leading by example, our beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai (vegan) has opted to use “future gold and future gems” in all of Her S.M. Celestial Jewelry designs.

Future gold, or ethical gold, uses advanced environmentally friendly technology that meets international standards. It’s made from pure recycled 24-karat gold, 99.99% of which comes from discarded computers and mobile phone motherboards. Future gems, or ethical gems, are grown in the lab. Synthetic gemstones made in the laboratory have the same chemistry, molecular structure, and color as natural gemstones. They are also more brilliant and have higher clarity, with no visible difference noticeable to the naked eye.
