At that time when he smelled that incense, he already entered samadhi due to the Buddha’s blessing, because Buddha just instructed him to go meditate. The Buddha’s blessing went with him. Not just instruction by mouth, but the Buddha said something to you, blessed you.
So, he went and he entered samadhi, but he still can smell the incense from his own nose. But yet he sees, he feels the incense is filled all over the ten directions. That’s why he feels it’s secret, private, for him only, but also everywhere. Because he’s already lifted up. He’s already lifted up. So, he told the Buddha that the adornment, the smell, the essence of the fragrance, fragrance in any way.
