Then he came up to his father and said, "Respected Father, just now I went out into the suburban areas, into the rural areas, and I saw that our citizens, because for survival, are doing many things that are karmically heavy. After they die definitely they will fall into the Three Evil Paths." "Please, can you give me one of our stores of food so that I can go and give it to them." After a while of charity, many of the stores in his house had gone down. And then Great Charity thought to himself, "So, what can I do now so that I can continue to give to the citizens so that they are happy and contented?" "OK, maybe I'll go deep into the sea to find precious stones. That should be the best." And then 500 people liked to come with him. They were just walking and then the robbers came and took everything. They came to a citadel, a city, called Supara city. In this city, there was a noble person, a rich person. His name was Kapali. He had one daughter, very, very beautiful. Now, the Great Charity man came in front of the city wall, in front of the house, and knocked at the door and wanted to borrow some money. She came in and told her father, "Ba! Outside, there's a person knocking at the door. He's my husband!" And, of course, the noble rich man was so happy. Everything that he lost, he replenished them all.

Buddhist Stories: Wish-Fulfilling Jewels, Part 4 of 10 Aug. 13, 2015

“Obeisance to the World Honored One. In the past life how did Ananda serve You? How did he know when to do what and when to give You what?” So the Buddha said, “A long, long time ago, limitless time past, at that time there was a king who ruled a very big country. In that capital city, there was a Brahmin man, Brahmin. And the king respected him like a teacher.” “So his first wife got pregnant. She gave birth to a son… I give him the name Great Charity.” “And this boy was very, very diligent and he loved to study. And he was also very intelligent already, so he learned everything by heart so quickly.” “One day, he said to his father, ‘Respected father, I’ve stayed in this palace a long, long time already. Please can I go out and have a look outside to see what the other people are doing?’” “A bunch of beggars…a group of people killing and preparing animals…farmers…hunters…the fishermen….” “Since then, since he saw all that, he saw that everyone was so ignorant and doing such terrible karma, he became very sad. And then he was thinking how to help all beings so that they had everything, not just physical contentment but also spiritually and mentally and everything.”

At that time, one of the monks, he somehow intuitively knew that the Buddha wanted Ananda. And other people also understood that. And then Sariputra and Maudgalyayana came up to me and said, “Annada, I think the Buddha wants you to be His attendant. Come, get up quickly and then ask the Buddha to allow you to be His attendant.” “I don't know what to do. So I said, ‘If the two great elderly Reverends think thus, then please come and ask the Buddha for me. But in order to be the Buddha's attendant, I request three privileges.’” What do you think he asked? “Number one, if the Buddha had old clothes, he will not want to accept it.” “Number two, whatever the Buddha ate that's left over, do not give it to me.” “Number three, it's meaning that, depending on the season and time, only he himself will take care for the Buddha.” So the two great disciple monks came up and told all that to the Buddha. Then the Buddha explained like this: “But you should know it's not just this day. It's not just in this lifetime that he asked for this.” “A long time ago, past life, he also serve me and also did this.” Maybe that's why he knew everything. He knew about what Buddha wanted and what time he should give what. He was very pure and good. He was unconditional.

So that's why we should never, never ask to be born again, or even in this lifetime, to become a king or anything. You have enough food to eat, you have enough clothes to wear; that is the best thing already. And whatever's left, maybe you can spare it, then you give it to the poorer people. Whatever you can. Even just a little bit of something, some food. The food that we've wasted on our planet in every rich country, we could use that to nourish the whole planet three times over. We must organize together. The food organizations, the food ministries of all the countries have to sit together and tackle this intelligently, compassionately, or else. Or else we all have consequences. This story's about somebody named Đại Thí. He's the one who tried to empty the ocean. “Thus I have heard.” At one time, the Buddha was in the country called La-duyệt-kỳ (Rajagariha) in the mountain Linh Thứu (Ghridhrakuta). “Kiều-trần-như (Kaundinya), and then Mahakasyapa, and then Sariputra, and then Maudgalyayana, and another 500 big monks came out one by one, one by one, wanting to be His attendant. But He refused them all.” It's not easy. Everybody wants to be the Buddha's attendant. But you have to be able also.

Buddhist Stories: Wish-Fulfilling Jewels, Part 1 of 10 Aug. 13, 2015

Now, I just want to tell you, just want to remind you. Because all of these stories and the merit that you acquire when you take care of the Buddha’s stupas, or you offer to the living Buddhas or the past Buddhas or the sangha - all of this is for the ordinary people - the people who want to be reborn again as gods in Heaven - maybe small gods, big gods, depends on their merit - or people who like to become humans again, with richness and power. But always being chased by the (bad) karma…. So mind you, all the merit that we dedicate to be a god, or angels or divas or humans with position, power, and money, brings us nothing, protects us from nothing. (Bad) karma is still there chasing after us, life after life, until somehow it’s dissolved. So it’s no safety. No safety at all for us to stay in the Heavens or stay on Earth with all power, merit, whatever it is. It’s all impermanent. So it’s better we practice, like immediate enlightenment, and then from then on you will never worry about anything else.

Four Types of Beings in Our Life, Part 6 of 6 July 14, 2019

I wanted to tell you that because not only American husbands, but other people, other countries' husbands, they're also very loyal to their wives. And I'm very, very happy about that. So, if any of you women complain about your husband, I think you should also introspect your style, your lifestyle. You must have love and wisdom as well. You have to be also sometimes feminine, sometimes very cooperative. Because if your house is not peaceful, it's difficult to find peace of mind. They're always in your mind and you go nowhere. Peaceful solution is always the best. So, even if it's your enemy, you just bear with it, because mostly, you love your enemy. That's the way it's arranged in this world, so that you will equalize the hatred that you had with each other formerly. That's how it goes. Life has to be about love. I don't wish you to come back but maybe you have to. If you don't long enough to go Home, then this is where you stay.

And my cave in Spain, it was just a cave, a lot of rock and rough and it was not accessible. It's far away from any human's quarter. So, around is all trees and bushes, birds and squirrels and rabbits, and stuff like that. Oh, beautiful place! There's nothing, really, just that. But, for me, it's beautiful, because it's so quiet. But in that cave, I had the biggest ever realization. And the Gift that I gave some of you, also from that time. That was one of the best times in my life, just like in India when I had nothing. I love having nothing. You just feel so free. In heaven, you don't need to want anything. Or even whatever you want, it's already there for you. And even if you want anything extra just for creativity's sake, you just think about it, it's right there. But here, you are not allowed to use this. I'm not allowed to use so many things.

And Bodhisattvas, Saints, Buddhas are all over, in the ten directions, life after life. They are helping to rescue humans and to lift them up. Of course, friends include Bodhisattvas and Buddhas and Saintly beings. Now, the second type, maybe friend has more than just that. Sometimes, they just happen to be with you for a short while, but then they introduce you to some good teachings or a name of a Master, and it awakens something in you, and then you will go and find more of that teaching or that Master. These are also friends. And we have also invisible friends, like the angels who protect you. Now, there is another group of people; they are "Neutral." They are no harm to you, no good to you. Enemy has two types: outside your circle enemy and inside your circle enemy; we call "secret enemies." The enemy outside, of course, they do things very obviously against you, this is easier to deal with. You can escape, if you know, if you can. Secret enemy is more difficult. They make you even not want to practice anymore. And the worst thing is that they make you lose your belief in the right path to follow, right Master to believe in. These are the worst enemies.

Four Types of Beings in Our Life, Part 3 of 6 July 14, 2019

Now we go back to Lord Mahavira, our good and compassionate Lord. But this is too extreme for me. I don’t wish any Master to ever have to undergo this kind of ascetic life, which is so filled with suffering like this. It’s not necessary at all. I wasn’t born to be looking like an ascetic monk this lifetime. I’m born for you. I was born for this type of people who look through the clothes and the skin to see something more valuable than just the price of the material that I wear. So, it doesn’t matter what the Master looks like. As long as their souls perceive that She speaks, He talks the Truth, they will follow to the end sincerely and diligently. And for these souls, I might have appeal. For ordinary souls, they just look for personality, they look for appearance, they look for demonstration. They look for whatever. You know it, right? So, they will not be able to maintain their determination and faith as long as the so-called Master that they have seen or wanted to believe in doesn’t fit their small little frame.

Four Types of Beings in Our Life, Part 2 of 6 July 14, 2019

Friends, they are always there when you're in trouble. And their energy will always lend you some help, even though you don't know it; they also don't know about it. But you just feel comforted when you're around them. And you two seem to get on well in many subjects. And of course, "Enemy" is the opposite. We are born in this human body and we are not allowed to know many things. Therefore, a lot of times we do wrong without realizing it, especially without anyone teaching us in advance, without a wise teacher to tell us what's right from wrong. And even then, if somebody taught us, sometimes we still can do wrong because the mind and the maya pushing it; and our karmic background from (past) lives coming back also leading us astray, making us do things wrong; or the situation forces us to do something that we don't like to do, but we just have to. All the Bodhisattvas and the Buddhas warning us that the Bodhisattvas have always been there to help us all the time, even lifting us away from hell, if we were repentant and sincere, and given another chance to redeem our mistakes.

Four Types of Beings in Our Life, Part 1 of 6 July 14, 2019

What are four types? It could be also people; it could be also invisible beings; it could be also animals, pets. So now, I classify it all in four types of beings. Because we are all beings. The first type is very lucky for us if we have; they're called "Friends." "Friends" doesn't mean the social circle that you are in only; it could be your family members. So, friend is good for you. You will notice that they are very helpful to you, very coordinated with you. When you're with them, it's smooth sailing. And in our group, we have sixty-plus percent are good, truly, sincerely want to go Home and to practice goodness and to hear the Truth and try to implement the Truth in their lives. And the other thirty-plus percent are not so. And just like other Masters, when They came to our planet, They generously gave initiation and just giving everyone a chance to know this method and then to be able to practice. But not everyone took it seriously. The same with Shakyamuni Buddha. Even His cousin always tried to harm Him.

Understand Emotional Ties and Transcend Karma, Part 5 of 5 Mar. 1, 2005

“I haven’t seen my father for 20 years. I wonder if it is due to the karma, or is it good or not good.” If he did something wrong, you forgive him. Because our real Father is not even him. Everything works out just fine. Whatever happens, happens. It’s not your fault; it’s not his fault. Just the working of karma. Sometimes, he has only affinity with you for two days or two years or five years, and the affinity’s finished, he’s gone. Sometimes it’s good to forgive. It feels good. Otherwise, there’s a knot in there all the time if you don’t open it. Maybe just have a look at him, and talk to him. You don’t have to always see him, but no need to hate the person. At least, he is an excuse for you to come into this world, and then you meet spiritual practice.

Understand Emotional Ties and Transcend Karma, Part 4 of 5 Mar. 1, 2005

“Most of the time they are enemies?” You have to have something to stay together. So mostly it’s the enemy’s energy that makes you feel… strikes you. Like something’s there, so you begin to pay attention to that person. This is the force of karma! The guy is ugly, for example. But because of the karma, you think he’s the most attractive guy on the whole planet. Emotional bond is very strong. It’s not easy to shake it. Sometimes you get out of that relationship, and you pay something else. So, it's always a price. But sometimes it's the time you get out. If you feel really strong urge to get out, then that means it's time. Sometimes you want to get out but you can't, then maybe it is still too strong. But we are practitioners - you can be strong, strong will, and you have a lot of spiritual merit. You can pay a little bit for that so that you can get out.

Understand Emotional Ties and Transcend Karma, Part 3 of 5 Mar. 1, 2005

Sometimes a mundane problem cannot be separated from spiritual issue. It's a very difficult thing. Enemies always happen to bump into each other, (Yes.) and then "love at first sight" even, and all that stuff. And then you never know what. Everything is "fooled up". All the appearances in this world just kind of fool you. And yet, you lost everything, and you don't even know! Already prepared! That’s maya, already prepared the karma from last life. Whoever’s your enemy, they plant it around you, to make trouble. Even planted as your friend, your husband or your wife, it’s difficult to get rid of. But you’re lucky! You have only one, baby! I have many! And I have to love them, take care of them just like you. Don’t have to divorce a person just because he eats meat or drinks alcohol – you change him! You’ve been with him a long time, you should help him as a friend even. You tell him that you’d prefer him to be vegetarian and not to drink (alcohol), and then maybe you’d feel better about it, and then he will do it. He is very, very loyal, and he loves you. And on that basis, you can work (it out).

And life after life, we meet people, and sometimes we react with them, and they react with you. If it's good, then they come back as your friend or as your good lover. If it's bad, they come back as, you know, people who break your heart. We meet our acquaintances all the time, understand? All the time! It's not rare that you meet someone who strikes some memories in you. It's very difficult to realize who is who. Because life after life, you play so many roles, you get all confused, you know? Enemies, friends, love, hate, all kinds of things. So whatever mistake you make, it comes back. Therefore, there's always the Precepts to tell you to be careful. Some of you could have attained a higher level already, but you can't because of relationships. It might make you happy, but it might bind you, who knows? And this costs you sometimes spiritual attainment.

It takes a lot of merit, devotion and goodness inside; of course, and enlightenment. Most of the Buddhas, when they became Buddha, they don’t know it, because of the grace of the Master as well. They do feel that they’re clean, but because it’s so subtle! But they will know if they lose it! Whenever they lost the Buddhahood or their level goes down, they know it. For you it’s easy. Just keep the Five Precepts, meditate, recite the Five (Holy) Names, remember the Gift, and go straight up, sooner or later. Nothing can stop you now. Nothing can tempt you anymore. Nothing wants even to go near! Not everyone we love will return our love. It’s life. That’s life! Affinity, you know? Sometimes the enemy can come back, they hurt you in different ways. In the form of “love,” a lot of people use it to hurt each other.

“I have something to ask You. I always shake a lot when I meditate. How do I overcome that?” We have physical energy, we have emotional energy, we have this kind of life force energy, all kinds of energies. And before that, do some physical exercises to release some of the pent-up kind of maybe negative thinking or negative influence from others or from yourself - karma. And then sit and meditate. And do the breathing exercise that I have told you. “One other quick thing, Master. Does it become more of just energy and not so much seeing, once you get past the Astral?” It depends on the person. Some people see visions; some people feel the vibration; some people feel different sensations or happiness or pleasure. But it's always, you have to concentrate on the third eye, whether or not you have visions or no visions. And always remember the Master, (Yes.) Five (Holy) Names, and the Gift, if you have.

So, if you allow me to continue to do retreat, then maybe some of your dreams will come true quicker. Your love is like children, clinging to mother; you don't let go. I told you last week or the week before, I said, I'm going on retreat for one month and three days. Didn't I? (Yes, Master.) Even if you listened, you still come more than before! I have to try to do many things, and balance it, but it's not always easy. I just hope that I can do more before I leave this physical body. I feel time is very pressing. And, "Master, I pass the message from our contact person, they send their love to You and they're really grateful for Your love that showers them every day of their lives." Tell them the same, that I love them. The Kurd and the Iranian, they speak the same Persian language? They are at peace now, right? "Yes, better. It's getting better, thank You."

But I just sense something from the Iranian people, so passionate, so strong. I am very privileged to know some spiritual people who are so sincere like that. I’m sure the Prophet, peace be upon Him, would be very, very happy with you and bless you. And please go home and tell all the Iranian people that I really love them, I really think of them a lot. Then, before I forget, I don’t know if I’ll come out again tomorrow, so I’ll give you some more (vegan) cakes to bring home. Last time I gave some, but these are new people. You can share. You're also from Iran? Wow! Originally, I wanted to stay in my cave continuously, for one month and three days, I have announced that. And then you still come, and I don't have the heart to not see you. For you, to go through all these troubles to come here, I am also very touched. That's why I came here, especially because of you. "Initiates in Iran have asked us to deliver their respects to You, and tell You that they love You very much. You are very dear in their hearts." Thank you. I just feel like, Iranian people are the most sincere people. They would never have even one iota or one nano portion of doubt in their hearts, once they follow a Master. They are so sincere, so pure. I feel that way. "Iranian people would sacrifice everything they have, wherever they sense God's essence and presence, and we have sensed the essence and the presence of God in You." The Iranian people, the spiritual Iranian people, they are so passionate like that. So passionate! It's the way they feel inside.
