We can live a very empty life; we can live a very fulfilling life; we can live a [sacrificial] life; or we can just waste it, do whatever we want. But if you have to do something, and you know you have to do it, don’t say “tomorrow” because tomorrow you don’t know... How do you know if tomorrow you don’t have more exciting things to do, or maybe tomorrow something will prevent you to do this, or maybe tomorrow you’re no more? And then if you have not finished your desired work, you have to take another birth again just to finish it. […]
I told you many times: hell is made by our own conscience. And even if we don’t have hell, we just live a very ordinary life and we also enjoy very simple happiness; that’s also fine. God does not demand that we live a very noble life or sacrifice for other people’s happiness and safety. But it is when we die or when we leave this world, we view, review our life and we see it’s an empty page, or a blank tape, blank video tape. Nothing appears there, nothing interesting about our life, and we’ll probably feel very sorry, inadequate, and then we have to ask for another life again, to come down and do something that we think is more meaningful, more colorful for our footage, “film footage.”
Similarly, you heard sometimes people die and then they come back to life again. Can do that. Yes, if somebody is needed in this world, she or he can prolong their life for a while, according to their own will. If they die temporarily, they go up and meet with their higher Self, you know, the real boss, and then say, “Could I stay for longer because my child’s still small and my mother’s still ill and nobody takes care,” or etc., etc. If the soul really sincerely wants to help these beloved friends, they can ask permission to stay longer. So long, it’s OK? Good translation or not? You really listen?
OK now, so actually, we can do anything we want with our life. Lousy! Just to finish one job, you have to go through circle of nine months, and then suffer “wah, wah” at birth, and then… so, whoa, terrible. I wait for that. OK, OK, OK. I’m afraid he’s too serious; he will not translate directly. Or maybe the children cry different in Thai, I don’t know. They cry Thai. Instead of “wah, wah,” maybe “woh, woh.” Oh, where do we go now? Forgot.
Yeah, so, when you meditate, you should meditate. And whatever you should do, you do it because if you’ve left a little bit undone, you have to take another birth, it’s terrible. Just to come back for all this trouble, do a little job, and one day later, die. Or if that job is heavy, you have to wait until you’re twenty, or thirty, just to do that job and then die. Hey, that’s why you cannot have a rest after the body’s already retired. After the body dies, we should be able to have a rest for a while. That’s the law. And when we are reborn, even if we are reborn, we’ll be reborn anew. Wait, wait, wait. Something is wrong there. No battery or what? OK now? Wait a moment, please.
That’s why sometimes you see some children, they are born, one day, or two days, or maybe one week, two months, and then they die, and then people feel very, very sorry that their child’s life is so short. They say, “This child has no merit,” things like that, because according to Asian people, or most people in the world, to live a short life is a bad omen. So everywhere we go people wish “Long live the Queen,” or “God save the Queen,” things like that, or “May you have a long life.” “Ten thousand years, ten thousand years.” “Ten thousand years, ten thousand years,” they used to greet the king this way. “萬歲” means “ten thousand years.” My God! You’re welcome to such a long life.
But actually, whoever dies young, he has already completed his mission for that special birth cycle, and he has to go. So, no need to feel sorry for him or her in this case. And the people who live long, also no need to feel happy for them. It depends whether that person is happy inside or not, or his physical body is in a fit condition or not. Otherwise it’s just prolonged suffering and prolonged boredom.
Actually, sometimes I feel like I would live forever, and this can be done. But sometimes I just want to cut it short. Because there’s nothing so interesting in this life so much for me to keep on. But sometimes when I’m happy and when things go smoothly, I feel powerful, confident, I say, “Ah, I’m going to live forever.” Or at least a very long time, a few hundred or a thousand years. I don’t know what for. But like this, you have a lot of time, no rush. I feel I need that kind of long life in order to accompany you snails.
So that somebody who says he misses me so much, instead of calling me this Friday, he can call me next year. After I’ve already run around the world and come back. Yes. Sometimes I feel the people in this world are very, very funny. On one hand, they say they miss you, they need you so much, but, “Oh, I don’t have time for that, and next week I will need you.” “I’m very busy now. I have family. I have business. I have this, I have that and others.” It is true, too. It’s true. And then he also has to make everybody happy, so he doesn’t have time for me. I say, “Oh yes, of course, you have to make them happy, it’s already over 10 years now. Every day! Already for 10 years you have tried to make your family happy every day, every day.”
For some of you 20 years, 30 years, 40 years already, every day trying to make the family members happy in different ways. And so, it will continue forever. And nothing happened. Yes. You can also do that all the time. But sometimes there are more important things. The question in life is the priority and the quality. It’s not always quantity.
So that’s why it’s similar to people when they say they miss God, they love God, they want to search for God, but, “Oh, wait a minute, my child has not grown up, my father has not died, or my mother has not remarried,” things like that, or “I’m busy.” Or “My dog(-person) has not yet reached his old age,” or whatever. Any reason. Yeah, you don’t believe it. It’s true. Yeah, some people cannot attend retreats, seven days or three, four days, because their dog(-people), their cat(-people), don’t allow them. Yeah. True. Nobody takes care of the dog(-people), the cat(-people), then they will not go. And even sometimes dog(-people) and cat(-people), they’re so attached to their owner (caretaker) that if the owner (caretaker) is not there, they don’t eat from anyone else and that’s really a real, real binding.
