Integrated Tissue and Organ Printing System(ITOPS) is a large sophisticated 3-D printer, capable of printing with human cells to make lab-grown organs for surgical implantation into human bodies. Dr. Atala and his team have already implanted eight structures printed by ITOPS. Because of using a patient’s own tissues to create the new tissues and organ, and then putting back them into the body, there is no rejection by the patient’s tissues. Dr. Atala said: “that’s what this technology is all about.”
