The ocean holds a vast potential for harnessing inexpensive, clean, and sustainable energy. In this program, we interviewed Dr. Martin Visbeck, Professor of Physical Oceanography, GEOMAR Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research, one of the world’s leading marine science institutes. Professor Visbeck presented five approaches to generating energy from the ocean; namely, the use of ocean waves, ocean elevations, ocean currents and swells, variations in cold and warm ocean temperatures, and salinity gradients between freshwater and ocean water.
