Francisco Atencio is a vegan artist from Argentina. He works as a computer engineer, but his true passions are art and philosophy. Mr. Atencio started the “Arte Animal” Project, which strives to promote animal-people rights via art. Today, we have the privilege of inviting Francisco Atencio to share his brilliant artworks with us and speak about his creative journey. He first speaks about how he became vegan.

Francisco Atencio tells us about the “Arte Animal” Project. “I believe that the images have a very strong impact. So I started making paintings. I started with cats, dogs, and horses, who I have never stopped painting and drawing because I love it. I started to add cows, pigs… something that is not very common to see in paintings…hens…”

Mr. Atencio shares his painting “You Are Not Alone,” which addresses the horrendous practice of bull-people fighting. “Luckily, in Argentina we haven’t had bullfights for the last two centuries or so. But even though it is something that is apparently far away – Mexico, Spain – there are eight countries where bullfighting is still legal.”

Francisco Atencio now talks about his digital painting “Both of Them Deserve Love and Respect.” “The message is quite clear. Maybe it’s clear to someone who has already understood that a pig, and a dog, a cat, a cow, they all have the same wish to live, and very strongly. No animal, no human animal is also going to let itself be killed easily, because we want to live. We want to live according to our nature, we don’t want to be locked up, even less we don’t want to be killed and eaten. So, it’s like that image, which tries to make someone else understand that they are just the same, that there are small physical differences, of behavior, but both of them are very intelligent, very friendly.” “And for me it’s so obvious that all animals are to be treated equally, that it’s hard to understand why we pet some and confine others.”
