UN agency receives new contribution to buffer ongoing challenges.
Korea has donated US$1 million to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Jordan. The funding comes at a time when displaced Syrians’ needs have increased due to the COVID-19 pandemic. UNHCR will be able to continue the cash assistance program whereby vulnerable families can pay their rent, buy food and access health care. Since the Syrian crisis began in 2011, Jordan has taken in more than 630,000 registered refugees. However, the government estimates that the total count is actually closer to 1.5 million when unregistered migrants are included. Jordan is a Shining World Leadership Awards for Compassion and Public Health Protection recipient. Korea is a laureate of three Shining World Leadership Awards for Compassion, and Shining World Leadership Awards for Protection and Peace. Scientists unravel Martian atmospheric mystery.
A peculiar cloud appears in the southern hemisphere of the red planet every morning for several months during spring and summer. With funding from the Spanish Ministry of Science, the Basque Government and the European Space Agency, researchers analyzed data and images dating back to the 1970s. They have concluded that the cloud begins forming before sunrise on the western slope of Arsia Mons, an extinct volcano. As it rises, the moisture clings to dust in the air and high-speed winds stretch the formation westward for about 2 1/2 hours. The warmth of the Sun then causes the mist to evaporate before midday. The scientists think that understanding this phenomenon will help them develop better climate models of both Earth and Mars. Well done, planetary physicists! New study shows a roadmap on how the United States could be carbon-neutral by 2050.
Researchers at the University of San Francisco, the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and Evolved Energy Research in the United States worked on new energy models for 16 geographic regions in the country. Their recently published report considers the many details of energy production and consumption with a view to decarbonizing the economy by 2050. Action steps that need to be taken include boosting solar and wind capacity, phasing out coal-fired power plants, increasing zero-emission vehicle sales as well as constructing new transmission lines and more energy-efficient buildings. The authors also touched on increasing CO2 uptake by the land through changing agricultural practices. Indeed, the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a Shining World Leadership for Lives-Saving-Hero Award laureate, advocates a global transition from animal livestock raising to plant-based nutrition. Currently, a road trip from Katra to Banihal in northern India can take up to 12 hours. But the distance will be reduced by half once it is possible to make the journey by train. Progress on the Ministry of Railways’ project has been slow due to engineering challenges and the coronavirus pandemic. But the steel arches constructed from both sides of the river were recently joined in the middle at a height of 359 meters, which will make it the highest railway bridge in the world. The structure has been designed to withstand major earthquakes and winds of up to 266 kilometers per hour. Selfless senior risks his life to save neighbors.
When 70-year-old James Johnson saw smoke coming from a house on his street in Pennsylvania, USA, he started running towards the house on fire. The Marine Corps veteran called 911 and with the help of two young boys kicked open the front door. As he was alerting the residents to evacuate, he learned there was someone trapped on the second floor. Without thinking of his own safety, the former serviceman ascended the stairs and retrieved a man from the flames. Once outside, emergency personnel smothered the rescued individual’s burning clothes with a blanket and arranged for transport to a trauma center. Later, Mr. Johnson was visited at home by a local magistrate judge who delivered a certificate honoring him for his actions that saved lives. God bless you, James Johnson, and our heartfelt gratefulness to all responders. We pray that the love you show others returns to you a thousandfold, in Heaven’s elevating embrace. When Karen and Elwood Salstein Harris first moved to Costa Rica, they found it somewhat challenging to pursue their vegan lifestyles. Wanting to help promote the animal-free trend, they remodeled their residence in the beach town of Tamarindo to include 14 rooms for guests. Mother Earth Vegan Hotel was born and features a plant-based restaurant, a rooftop yoga and healing studio, plus a natural saltwater pool. All of the furnishings, amenities and cleaning products are also free of animal ingredients. Gray water from sinks, showers, washing machines and other appliances is recycled into clean water for irrigation. The establishment is powered by solar energy and maintains a zero-waste policy in the restaurant. We applaud your plant-based paradise, Karen and Elwood Salstein Harris! When a stray cat wandered into the Bungo-Taketa train station 10 years ago, she did not imagine she would be getting a name, a home and a job. But her affectionate manner soon won the hearts of employees and customers. The tabby was dubbed Nya and took up residence in the ticket office, occasionally falling asleep on the laps of passengers in the waiting room. In 2018, the city of Taketa named Nya the “stationmaster,” and she recently celebrated her third year in that capacity. The tourism association delivered a box of gifts, and community members in attendance got postcards featuring Nya’s image. Our hearts are warmed, Nya, by the blessings you bring and the appreciation you receive. Thank you for reminding us that when we follow God’s guidance to be loving to others, we are assured of the best possible outcomes.
A good, hearty laugh is a great way to relieve stress. So laugh as much as you can at our joke of the day entitled “Grow Up.”
One day, Bethy’s mother returned home after a long day at work and was feeling stressed out. When Bethy came into the kitchen to ask a question, her mom replied:
“Bethy, you’ve grown up and you are a big girl now. I want you to start being more self-sufficient and solving your own problems. You know I have other things to do, and it would help if you didn’t depend on me so much.”
Bethy took what her mom said to heart and remembered it when she went to school the next day.
“Bethy, please come up and solve this math problem on the board.”
So Bethy went to the front of the class and wrote out her solution:
“Dear Math, please grow up and solve your own problems. I’m tired of solving them for you.”

Hallo, Beloved Master! Supreme Master TV team, wishing you all the best! I have been practicing the Quan Yin Method of meditation for almost 30 years. My spiritual journey began while in college when I came across Master’s sample book. Since then, I have broken through every obstacle to follow Master. Ever since I was initiated, I have devoted myself to the practice. I cherish dearly this rare opportunity to walk the Supreme Path under the tutelage of a living Master. While on the path, I have done everything I can to spread the teaching, as well as promote the vegan diet for the benefit of all. God’s work such as this has brought me immense bliss. For the last two years, I have had the good fortune of receiving Master’s approval to translate for Supreme Master TV. Whenever I had difficulty in understanding or translating a passage, I would pause to recite the Five Holy Names or meditate for a while. Then, oftentimes, an inspiration would flash through my mind, enabling me to grasp the meaning of the passage. Or, out of nowhere, an elegant expression would pop into my head. Each day, I persevere in my practice diligently, and Master regularly blesses me with inspirations that enhance the quality of my work. Such divine inspirations often leave me awestruck. Today, I continue to make great strides in my translating, often feeling as if God’s hand is at work. I have encountered many trials as a spiritual practitioner, but I have also been blessed with countless heavenly experiences and witnessed many miracles, all of which have contributed to making my faith in the path unshakable. My mother was a Christian and had never agreed with veganism. For over a decade, she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. In the last two years of her life, we had a fellow sister initiate to help look after her. We had left Supreme Master Television on every day, filling our living space with abundant blessings. My mom’s condition had remained stable ever since.
Over the years, I have been present at the passing of many fellow initiates as well as their relatives. Many had exhibited auspicious signs during their passing. Last year, my mother passed away peacefully on the day of the Dragon Boat Festival. It was a profound experience for me. My young daughter, a half-initiate, had an experience during my mother’s passing that proved Master’s far-reaching power. She said that she had a peculiar feeling the moment she woke up that morning. Upon opening her eyes, she saw three pure white beams of light emanating from Master’s photo. They were so bright that she could see them with closed eyes. She had never witnessed anything so spectacular before in her life. She said that those white light beams illuminated the house for two hours before her grandma’s passing and only dissipated gradually 15 minutes after her departure. Upon hearing her personal account, I burst into tears. How merciful Master is! I had been so busy looking after my mother in the final stretches of her departure that I was unable to meditate or pray. It was You, Master, who silently blessed her and took her to the high Heavens with the power of Your great Merciful Love. My deepest gratitude to You, Master! Your boundless Compassion and Love were manifested in my mother in a series of miracles. Above all, Master’s incredible power had blessed her with a peaceful departure and freed her from the travails and physical ailments in this world, taking her back to her Heavenly abode. Throughout the funeral, there was little mourning, and instead, joy and peace filled the air. I knew in my heart of hearts, Master, that it was the might of Your great Mercy and Love that generated these miracles.
O Master! Ever since I began my spiritual journey under Your protective wing, my life has entered a most sublime chapter. It has been a stupendous heavenward journey of indescribable wonderment as well as challenges. Yes, there have been trials and tribulations along the way, but the view at the peak is truly magnificent! Since the time of my initiation, there have been two sets of footprints on my path; one is mine, and one is Master’s. Whenever I was in the trough of my life, troubled by heartaches, sorrow, and frustrations, there was only one set of footprints. I know well that those deep, broad impressions in the sand were those of Master’s. It was You who sacrificed Your own comfort to carry me through those trying times. As the saying goes, “When the boon is too great, how can one say ‘thank you?’” There is nothing with which I can repay You in this life, Master. The only thing I can do is to practice diligently and hope that I can relieve You of the burden of my weight so that I may follow You on my own two feet and walk the way of great love!
