Dr. Anita Krajnc (vegan) and the Animal Save Movement, Part 2 of 3

Dr. Anita Krajnc (vegan) and the Animal Save Movement, Part 2 of 3

"When you use a love-based, non-judgemental approach, I think it’s easier to persuade the public to join us and to transform the industry from one that is producing animal products to one that is fully plant-based and vegan and ethical as well. I was charged for giving water to thirsty pigs in 2015, and I was acquitted for that. The judge agreed that compassion is not a crime. The Pig Trial was really important for the development of our movement. I had two vegan lawyers that were representing me, Gary Grill and James Silver. What they did with this case was they turned it around and put animal agriculture on trial. What we were fighting for was not only that compassion is not a crime and that it is a duty to give water to thirsty animals, we were also fighting for the principle that pigs are not property. They’re persons. We failed on that second goal. The judge did not recognize that, so that fight continues because it’s absolutely fundamental to recognize animals as persons. The Pig Trial brought a lot of attention to the Animal Save Movement, so it inspired more groups to form. I think artists are very important in social change. In our struggle, we have to use both reason and feelings and it’s art that really helps us with the latter. Joaquin Phoenix is someone who’s been to dozens of vigils in LA. Joaquin's speech at the Oscars was like a speech written from God, I thought. He was like the voice of God or angels." "I think we’ve become very disconnected from the natural world. And many of us, what we’re guilty of is an egocentric worldview, the belief that we’re the center of the universe. We go into the natural world and we plunder it for its resources. We feel entitled to artificially inseminate a cow and when she gives birth, we steal her baby, even though her cries of anguish are unmistakable. And then we take her milk that’s intended for her calf and we put it in our coffee and our cereal. When he was 17, my brother wrote this lyric, he said, 'Run to the rescue with love and peace will follow.' Thank you."

Successful Refugees and Immigrants Leading the Way, Part 1: The Legendary George Soros

In this series, “Successful Refugees and Immigrants Leading The Way,”we will profile prominent refugees and immigrants who have enriched the nations to which they have arrived, and contributed to the greater good of our world. George Soros is among these outstanding individuals. Mr. Soros, who left his native Hungary in 1947, is considered the founding father of the hedge fund industry and one of the world’s most distinguished philanthropists and richest men. Mr. Soros was born to a Jewish family in Budapest, Hungary, on August 12, 1930. Life in Hungary in the 1940s was very challenging, and in search of a better future, George Soros became an economic refugee, leaving his homeland for London, UK, in 1947. Initially, Mr. Soros’ career began with a bank in the UK, and in 1956, he got a work visa to join a brokerage house in New York City, USA. He created his first hedge fund, Double Eagle in 1969 (later renamed as Quantum Fund), and used the fortune earned from the first fund to create his second hedge fund, Soros Fund Management, in 1970. In 2017, the American publication Forbes magazine ranked Mr. Soros as the 29th richest person in the world, the wealthiest hedge-fund manager worldwide, and 19th among the 400 most affluent Americans. Before gifting the majority of it to his non-profit foundation, his net worth was estimated at US$25.2 billion. Mr. Soros has been an enthusiastic philanthropist for the past 40 years. In 2017, it was announced that Mr. Soros had transferred US$18 billion of his wealth to the Open Society Foundations. George Soros has expanded his philanthropy globally by supporting a large number of new efforts to build more responsible, transparent, and democratic nations. Today, the Open Society Foundations has funded individuals and groups in more than 120 countries around the world. The non-profit’s average annual expenditure is about US$600 million. Mr. Soros has received numerous honors and awards throughout his career as a direct result of his work in the financial field and dedication to giving back to the global community. Mr. Soros has written many papers, articles, and books concerning finance, economics, and geopolitics. As one of the modern era’s most successful financiers, his views on investing and economic issues are widely followed. His story teaches us that even under the most difficult circumstances we should still be optimistic and have positive thoughts. A big salute to all difference-making migrants, and George Soros in particular, for showing us the enormous potential of those who settle in new lands.

Център `Оскар и Лора`: Рай за българските бездомни кучета

Today, we are going to meet an extraordinary person who grew up in orphanages. Despite the adversity in his childhood, he has managed to channel his negative experiences and transform them into something positive and constructive. With a compassionate heart, Boyko Grenzke established the Oscar and Lora Center in Bulgaria to help injured, unwanted and abandoned dogs. Boyko’s purpose for founding the Center is to better the life of abandoned dogs. Besides taking care of and finding forever homes for them, he works very hard to bring needed resources together and runs the daily operations. Although it’s not an easy task, his childhood background has strengthened his mind and will to overcome the challenges he has faced. "In general, I am the manager of the whole center. There are currently about 70 animals here on-site. We have been here, at this site, for 12 years; it was given to me by a friend of mine, who loves animals and respects my cause. The dogs that are on this site are ours; they belong to our organization and we are responsible for them. Before they came here, they were in poor condition; they were sick, injured. We have cured them with the help of vets from the veterinary clinic we work with; they are now healthy, neutered, chipped and ready for adoption. My goal is to integrate more such people from orphanages to take care of stray animals together, especially those animals that are here in our place. The purpose of our organization is - in addition to rescuing and helping animals in trouble - is to look for adopters." So far, the Center has rescued approximately 320 dogs, and around 250 of them have already been taken in by caring people. Although Boyko doesn’t have a human family, he has the most unconditionally loving beings - rescued dog residents at the Center. The canines have become Boyko’s very best friends. He often speaks with the dogs because he feels they understand him. He always tells them not to worry and that there will always be a solution. He says he will never leave them alone as long as he can walk. We are deeply touched by Boyko Grenzke’s self-sacrifice and loving care for our canine friends. Despite a rough start in life, he has a heart of gold. We thank you, Boyko, and all the volunteers of the Oscar and Lora Center for your full-hearted efforts to help our abandoned and stray animal friends find forever homes.

WEMA HOME – Bringing Hope and Love to Benin, Part 1 of 3

The goals of WEMA HOME are helping children and adolescents to access education and work, improving the working and living conditions of girls and women, curbing rural exodus and child trafficking, and promoting environmental protection and nature conservation. “We encourage people to support themselves.” WEMA HOME believes there is no future without education. Marianne built Gobada’s first elementary school in 2002. Aside from basic education, vocational training is also provided in a wide range of fields. The charity built a training center for girls so they may learn practical skills and eventually independently support themselves. WEMA HOME believes that with a little help in the right place, you can change the lives of many people for the better. Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Happily present the Shining World Compassion Award in God’s love to the WEMA HOME organization plus US$25,000 as a loving token of support toward this noble work. Hillside Animal Sanctuary: A Countryside Paradise

In 1995, Wendy Valentine established the Hillside Animal Sanctuary in Frettenham, Norwich, UK, after seeing the enormous suffering of egg-laying hens in the poultry industry. From the beginning, Ms. Valentine has campaigned against factory farms and done her utmost to help the victims of their heartless operations. In addition to rescuing animals, she works to raise awareness of the constant agony of the animals on the farms. Her selfless love and concern for animals was already well known. Hillside’s growth over the years was made possible by the generosity of a sympathetic public. We have good hearts and instinctively know how to treat animals with love and respect. When this translates into adopting a vegan diet, we benefit our animal co-inhabitants, ourselves, and the whole planet.

Manoj Gogoi: The Animal Rescuer of Assam

Manoj Gogoi, a Shining World Compassion Award recipient, has rescued over 5,000 different birds, reptiles, and mammals in the vicinity of the Kaziranga National Park in the Indian state of Assam. His passion and love for animals have made him a local hero. Manoj was born in 1975, and after finishing secondary school, he worked as a guide in Kaziranga National Park. In 2005, he met raptor specialist Dr. Ashok Verma from the Bombay Natural History Society. This encounter became a turning point in his life. Mr. Gogoi later took up Dr. Verma’s offer and learned much about birds and wildlife in his 3-month stay in Mumbai. In 2008, he created the Naturalists for Rehabilitation of Snakes and Birds (NRSB) to rescue and rehabilitate more animals. The non-profit’s mission is: “To stop the degradation of Mother Nature and to conserve, rescue and provide medical aid to injured wildlife and rehabilitate wild animals, snakes, and birds to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature.” Eventually, more than 100 youths from the area assisted him in rescuing more than 500 animals. Through this work and naturalist training camps he has held, he has planted benevolent seeds into the hearts of these youngsters and helped in raising their love and respect for all living beings. In 2014, in recognition of his fine care for fauna, he was awarded the title, “Wildlife Warrior” by the Corbett Foundation. Regarding the animal denizens of Kaziranga, Manoj stated, “They are my children, and I am their mother. I will protect them with my life.” In recognition of his efforts in wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, Manoj Gogoi was presented the India Star Passion Award in 2019 for Social Service (Environment) by the India Star Book of Records. The gentleman is also very concerned about global warming. He emphasizes that humanity needs to take the blame for polluting the environment, and asks all to nurture our world.

Monty Roberts – Trust-Based Horse Trainer, Part 1 of 4 (INT)

And in this business of training horses, which I am a professional at, and have won 11 world championships training horses. But, what I inherited was a world whereby demand was made from the horse. That a good trainer can make a horse do whatever he wants him to. But the great trainer can cause the horse to want to do it. And if the teachers in school thought that way, and a lot of them do, or if the bosses of corporations thought that way, and a lot of them do, they would have a better corporation and a better school. If a student is doing their work because they want to, they will do a better job. And the same thing down on the assembly line of a factory.

Luke Mickelson: Building Sweet Dreams for Kids in Need

Luke Mickelson: Building Sweet Dreams for Kids in Need

Luke was the leader of youth group at his church, and Christmas was a few weeks away. Somehow he heard about a family that could not afford beds for their two children. Using his daughter’s bunk bed as a template, Luke bought the necessary wood and other supplies. Then he and the youths spent a few nights in Luke’s garage making a bunk bed for the family in need. When children are deprived of adequate sleep, their physical and emotional health are affected, and it is more challenging for them to do well in school. Luke realized that he had a mission to fulfill, so he formed a nonprofit organization called “Sleep in Heavenly Peace,” a line from the Christmas carol “Silent Night.” He told CNN, “I found that the need I have isn’t financial. The need I have is seeing the joy on kids’ faces, knowing that I can make a difference.” Under Luke’s leadership, Sleep in Heavenly Peace spread to 39 states in the US, with 127 chapters, and nearly 15,000 volunteers built more than 4,100 bunk beds in 2018. Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Joyfully present the Shining World Caring Award to Luke Mickelson, with a loving token gift of US$25,000 to support Sleep in Heavenly Peace, with all admiration, love, and gratitude.”

From Saving the Earth to the Journey of Exploring the Mysteries of the Cosmos to Universal Peace, Part 1 of 5

The more people know God, the more people can contact directly with God and become happier, then the more peaceful the world will be, the less war, and the more we can bring Heaven onto Earth. I'm hoping with this European tour to raise the consciousness of people, to help you to remember your higher Self, your more noble being, so that the atmosphere will change, the energy will become more loving, more noble, more higher dimension. And that's my prayer for world peace.

Also, the contamination is affecting health. Agriculture must increasingly be focused on what food means to people, and we must reduce more and more, the exclusive foods, meaning agriculture exclusively done to feed livestock. We must advance because this in not sustainable. It is not a matter of opinion, it is already a matter of real information. All lines of political work, at least in our organization, are focused on that: sustainable feeding (of humans) and sustainable agriculture, local agriculture, agriculture that respects times, respects seasons, and respects local seeds.

A Prayer for Compassion: An Interview with Filmmaker Thomas Wade Jackson (vegan), Part 2 of 4

00:10:35

A Prayer for Compassion: An Interview with Filmmaker Thomas Wade Jackson (vegan), Part 2 of 4

Today, Mr. Jackson continues sharing his thoughts on how each individual’s own peace can create harmony on Earth, and how this can be achieved through the vegan diet. “Everybody’s vegan at heart; everybody’s true nature is compassion. I believe that most of the unnecessary suffering on this planet is caused by that out-of-alignment. As I was making this film, I’m meeting so many people that have healed their lives by changing their diet, that have healed their illnesses, their depressions. Within the first month, they start feeling physically better, and some people lose medicines and stuff along the way. But within a year, their heart softens, they become more connected.” “So, I think, the first thing you can do for the environment, to align yourself to your true compassionate nature, is to make sure you take the violence out of your diet. I believe the change is coming whether everybody consciously goes vegan or not, because the experience I’ve had with people, their heart softening from taking violence out of their diet, is about to happen on a wide scale. One thing you can do is be vegan. The other thing you can do, if you’re already vegan, is really work hard to find compassion over judgment. The other thing you can do as an activist, whatever you’re advocating for, is not judge people, have compassion, but know your information. Watch the documentaries, read the books, know what it is.” “One thing is I want the film to affect parents. When my daughter was born, I felt like my heart exploded. I felt, I didn’t know you could love like that. I didn’t know you could care like that. I didn’t know, you would feel like you would give your anything to take care of this child. So I really implore parents to really mirror these compassionate choices for their children. It’s so important that we teach our children to be compassionate. And because they naturally are. I’ve met so many people that went vegan for their children. There’s so many amazing vegan activists out there that are children. And I love them all.”

Successful Refugees and Immigrants Leading the Way, Part 4: From Refugee to International Superstar - Gloria Estefan

Gloria Estefan, known as the "Queen of Latin Pop," was born in Havana, Cuba, in 1957. Still a toddler, she and her family fled to Miami, Florida, USA, in 1959. In 1975, the then 18-year-old Gloria Fajardo / García met Emilio Estefan, who led a band called the Miami Latin Boys. The band released its second English-language album, Primitive Love, in 1985. The album contained three top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. First, “Conga” peaked at #10 and became Ms. Estefan’s signature song a few years later. Unfortunately, in 1990, tragedy struck and Gloria was seriously injured in a severe bus crash. However, thanks to her intense determination and perseverance, Gloria made a miraculous comeback. Ms. Estefan, the most successful crossover performer in Latin music, has received multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards. In 2015, Gloria Estefan and her husband Emilio each received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from then-US President, His Excellency Barack Obama. It is the highest civilian honor in the US. The reasons cited for the selection were for their role in popularizing Latin music globally and opening doors for other Latin artists through their success. In 1997, she founded the Gloria Estefan Foundation, which supports various charities. The foundation monetarily supports no-kill shelters and helped fund the creation of the Vero Beach Dog Park. Over the years, Ms. Estefan has received numerous awards for her humanitarian efforts. In May 1993, Gloria made her first visit to New York’s Ellis Island, a previous port of entry for the US that welcomed 12 million immigrants when it was operational. Her selection shows Ms. Estefan’s role as a wonderful ambassador for her culture who proudly represents Hispanic people who have immigrated to the USA.

Tom Justyniarski: Teaching Children to Save Animals, Part 1 of 2(INT)

I came from Poland. I am an animal lover, teacher and writer. I save animals, and I believe that - thanks to these actions we are all taking with regard to animals and saving them - the suffering will come to an end and we’ll do many important things. I’ve written 10 books for children, a few novels, poems included, and two fairy tales. The book “Dog’s Worries” became a sensation in Poland. It won a Ministry of National Education contest as the best schoolbook and it has become a main schoolbook, meaning a compulsory book for children ages 8 to 12. "To change the next generation so that children will be sensitive all their lives and that they will love every living thing with an open heart."

Aylam Orian (vegan) and the National Animal Rights Day, Part 1 of 2

Today, we have the honor to feature American actor and animal rights activist Aylam Orian. In addition to his love of performing, Aylam has cared for the animals and their well-being from a very young age. In 2011, Mr. Orian brought together animal rights activists for what would eventually become the first National Animal Rights Day or NARD. “But we put on this event that was well attended. We called it ‘Our Planet. Theirs Too.’ But we did get people from all groups to come. We wrote the Declaration of Animal Rights. And it's actually the first National Animal Rights Day, June 5. This is a big event that celebrates animals, and the planet, and how humans can live with both in peace and harmony. And we really want to show people that another world is possible.” After that first NARD event in 2011, the ceremony spread to states all over the US and eventually throughout the world, including this ceremony in Los Angeles, California, USA, in 2015. “They took you from your family and stuck you in a testing place. They snatched you from your mommy before she touched your face. They sent you to the circus ring to amuse the laughing crowds. They stripped you of your hair and skin and threw you on the ground. But even in these moments, we wanted you to know that we see you, we hear you, we feel you; we love you, that you are not alone. One day on this ravaged earth, when blood and tears subside, everything will be so calm and green from side to side. Animals like me and you will share this place in peace. And there will be no suffering, just joy and love and ease.” Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Happily present Aylam Orian with the Shining World Compassion Award, with a loving gift of US$10,000 towards your noble organization, Our Planet. Theirs Too. Lots of love, praises and prayers for your success, in God’s mercy.” For more information about Aylam Orian’s projects, please visit the following websites: The National Animal Rights Day TheNARD.org Our Planet. Theirs Too. OurPlanet TheirsToo.org The Declaration of Animal Rights DeclarationofAR.org The National Animal Rights Day is being observed on Sunday, June 7, 2020, through an online global event.
