Here’s a safety tip on how to avoid scammers. You should take extra precautions to not give away your personal or financial information in response to an unexpected request. Scammers may pretend to be from an organization you are familiar with and they might even use a name that sounds official. They may say you owe money, are in trouble with the government, or there is an issue with your account and you will need to verify some information. They might even say you have a family emergency. They will pressure you to act quickly before you have any time to think. Resist this pressure and stop and speak to someone you trust. Block calls and text messages from unrecognized phone numbers. You can filter unwanted text messages through your phone’s settings. You can filter emails as well via the app’s settings. Scammers usually demand you to pay with a gift card or money transfer service. Do not give in to this! Think before you act and always make sure you are speaking to someone who is legitimately requesting information and be sure to verify it! For example, ask them for a phone number so you can call them back after checking details – scammers never give phone numbers that work because then the police could track them.
