Cholesterol: Friend or Foe?

With all the publicity about the detrimental health effects of cholesterol, people are often surprised to learn that cholesterol is actually important for keeping the body functioning normally. Some may be under the impression that all of the cholesterol in our system comes from the food we eat. In fact, our body is also capable of knowing when to produce the right type of cholesterol to keep the body in a balanced state. So cholesterol isn’t all bad, nor is it all good when there’s too much of the wrong type. Fiber is a key tool to lower cholesterol and is only found in plant-based foods. A vegan diet rich in fiber is beneficial and effective in helping us to keep cholesterol in the normal range.
