Every year in December, as we approach the 25th day to celebrate the birth of Lord Jesus Christ (vegetarian), Christmas carols can be heard in gatherings around the globe. Whether in churches, on the streets, or at home, Christmas carols warm our hearts and remind us of the great sacrifices of the beloved Son of God.

The tradition of Christmas caroling can be traced back almost 2,000 years. The oldest carol is thought to be “Angel’s Hymn,” mentioned in a statement by a Bishop of Rome in 129 AD, but the original music of the song has been lost. “Jesus Refulsit Omnium” (Jesus, Light of All the Nations) of the 4th century, with lyrics in Latin, is another song that many consider the oldest. Based on the ancient text, US musician Steven Griffin composed this beautiful piece, recreating the sublime ambiance. “Jesus, devoted Redeemer of all nations, has shone forth, Let the whole family of the faithful celebrate the stories.”

For generations, the sound of familiar Christmas tunes never fails to bring a jolly atmosphere everywhere they are played or performed. The contemporary English composer John Rutter is the author of many popular Christmas carols and hymns, such as “Requiem,” “Magnificat,” and “Star Carol.”

Initially, the lyrics of “Silent Night” were contained in a poem entitled “Stille Nacht! Heilige Nacht!” written in 1816 by Austrian priest Father Joseph Mohr. In 2011, the song was declared an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO. “Silent night, holy night! All is calm, all is bright. Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child. Holy Infant so tender and mild, Sleep in Heavenly peace, Sleep in Heavenly peace.”

We will conclude our show with “We Wish You A Vegan Christmas,” a holiday favorite with a lyrical twist, performed by the Vegan Elf Tones (all vegans). “We wish you a Merry Christmas We wish you a caring Christmas We wish you a vegan Christmas And a fur-free new year. The clothes that you wear Can be cruelty-free A world without suffering Is better you see.”
