Today, we will discuss ways for you to develop positive routines in your life, as well as tips to help you feel more healthy, productive, and at ease during this period. There are many benefits to keeping an everyday routine in terms of our mental health. This applies to adults, adolescents, and children alike. According to a research review done by psychologist Dr. Barbara H. Fiese and others in the United States, kids are healthier, and their behavior is better regulated when there are predictable routines in the family. Young ones with a regular set bedtime get to sleep sooner and wake up less frequently in the night. Routines for infants can even shorten the period of a respiratory illness!

As easy as it is to get up and immediately grab a cup of coffee and check our phone or email, there is a better option. Try to wake up slowly, take some deep breaths, let some bright light into the room, and do some light stretching to increase blood flow. When we rise in the morning, our bodies are dehydrated from a lack of water for many hours. One of the best habits we should include in our morning routine is to enjoy a tall glass of water, which also aids in digestion and metabolism.

Daily exercise and sun exposure are key elements to a healthy, happy life. Simple exercises can include taking a walk around the neighborhood or bodyweight exercises such as lunges, air squats, pushups, crunches, and more.

We can’t forget about diet! The vegan diet is essential to overall health, both physically and mentally. A vegan diet has been scientifically proven to lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, aid in preventing type 2 diabetes, lessen the risk of cancer, help improve cholesterol levels, reduces one’s chance of stroke, lower the risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia, and reduce all causes of mortality by 25%. The most important foods you can incorporate into your diet immediately for better health are legumes, fruit, green leafy vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds. The compassionate vegan diet includes mental health benefits as well.
