Shining World Heroine Award Recipient: Ou Hongyi (vegan) – Brave Environmental Activist

Shining World Heroine Award Recipient: Ou Hongyi (vegan) – Brave Environmental Activist

“Hi, my name is Ou (Hong) Yi, and I am an eighteen-year-old vegan, minimalist, and climate activist from China. I have been striking every Friday in China over 100 times in the last two years. I am sacrificing my own education because I know there is a climate and ecological emergency in the world, and let’s go green, be vegan and save the planet. It needs all of us. Thank you.” As a young child and teenager, she always had an interest in the environment, but it truly manifested in eighth grade, when she learned about veganism and its benefits to the planet. Then, in January 2018, she had a dream in which she went to a restaurant where customers were presented with a bucket of fish and a knife. When she was about to kill the fish, it turned and looked at her. This vision, in addition to watching the award-winning documentary film “An Inconvenient Truth,” led her to pursue a path of veganism and climate activism in her local community. Ou Hongyi became the first young person in China to engage in the Greta Thunberg-inspired “Fridays for Future” climate strikes. Her first strike was held in May 2019, in front of a local government office in her hometown and lasted seven days. She continued this activism for the next two years and then quit school to focus on activism full time. This led to much public scrutiny and criticism, but she remained courageous and resilient in her activism to raise awareness about the climate emergency. Upon learning about Ou Hongyi, Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Lovingly present Ou Hongyi the Shining World Heroine Award for your courageous spirit, plus US$10,000 as a helping hand to further your determined efforts to raise climate awareness, with high regard, gratitude and successful wishes, in Buddha’s Greatness.”

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Lauren Ornelas (vegan) – The Egalitarian Animal-People Rights Activist and Social Justice Advocate

On today’s Shining World Award program, we bring you a caring American citizen, who has tirelessly spent decades advocating the significance of ethical food choices through various campaigns, presentations and social media. Lauren Ornelas, the founder of Food Empowerment Project (F.E.P), is a firm believer in both human and animal-people rights, and that neither of them should be compromised for the benefit of the other. Among the multiple issues addressed, she also voices her concern for child labor in the chocolate industry, by exposing the abusive practice of chocolate companies across the globe. We would now like to share with you an excerpt of the interview about Lauren Ornelas’s luminous drive to form the F.E.P organization. “I wanted to work and have an organization that recognizes that fighting against both injustices, against human and non-human animals, should be fought for equally. That even though I was vegan, I still needed to recognize the other harm in the food supply, that I could potentially be contributing to. So, I wanted to start an organization that really helped connect these issues and also treated them as equals.”When asked about the establishment of regional chapters of the organization in other locations, Lauren Ornelas replied with an insightful response. The compassionate veteran social justice advocate also shared her views on the potential of younger generations who are prone to speak out for justice, and bringing about a positive change to the world we live in.Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Joyfully present the Shining World Compassion Award to Lauren Ornelas, plus US $10,000 for the Food Empowerment Project as a humble token of support for your noble work empowering the underprivileged, with all love, respect, and gratitude. May you enjoy ever more success and may Heaven bless you abundantly always.”Lauren was deeply grateful to Supreme Master Ching Hai for the recognition of her work. She also conveyed a special message to our viewers. “Just reminding you, if you love animals, and you have access to healthy foods, one of the easiest things that you can do to help them is to go vegan. So, it's a great way to help stop animal cruelty and make choices that are better for others.”

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Nicole Derseweh (vegan) – Spreading Love and Light Through the Community With Vegan Delights!

15:13

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Nicole Derseweh (vegan) – Spreading Love and Light Through the Community With Vegan Delights!

Nicole Derseweh is a private chef to some of Hollywood’s famous stars, who seek out healthy living. You could say she’s a well-known celebrity in her own right! While studying at business school, Nicole took a break and enrolled at Le Cordon Bleu Chef School in France. Using her newly acquired culinary skills, Nicole infused her Cordon Bleu touch with her business acumen and created an exceptional vegan meal service. She also initiated a vegan cooking show on YouTube, and co-authored a book called, “The Vegan Ketogenic Diet Book.” “My grandmother, she has passed. And unfortunately, she died of cancer. And she influenced me in such a profound way. Because, she's really the reason why I became vegan. I was doing research trying to figure out how to help cure her cancer, and that's how I learned about the vegan diet. I learned how it can help reverse some of these diseases, how it's obviously so much better for the animals and for the planet.” Nicole embarked on a plant-based mission, and founded a non-profit organisation, The Martha Project. She calls all of the people living on the streets “Houseless” and believes that we are all interconnected. The Martha Project has fed up to six-thousand houseless people since 2019. During COVID-19, The Martha Project diligently provided healthy, delicious, and home cooked vegan meals to the houseless community. “I just truly believe that we are all interconnected, and that we affect each other. And that this idea of separateness is really just an illusion. So, in understanding that, you realize that we're not OK, unless we're all OK. And that actually, it is my honor, and also responsibility to take care of other people and beings on this planet.” Upon hearing of her life-changing compassionate organization, Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Is very pleased to present the Shining World Compassion Award to Nicole Derseweh, plus a US$10,000 humble contribution to support this caring work, with all love and gratitude to all involved, in Heaven’s blessing.”

Shining World Compassion Award Recipients: Keegan Kuhn and Kip Andersen (both vegans) – Awakening Humanity Through Film and Music

We are delighted to present two Award-winning American filmmakers. One is acclaimed musician Keegan Kuhn, founder of First Spark Media, followed by Kip Andersen, founder of Animals United Media (A.U.M) Films and Media. Both film production companies focus on social justice causes and promoting awareness and equality for all life. After years of tireless work, their two major films, “Cowspiracy – The Sustainability Secret” in 2014, and “What the Health” in 2017, were released. With considerable depth, painstaking investigative data, and thought-provoking narrative, the films illustrate through evidence-based revelations, how adopting the vegan lifestyle is indeed the key to resolving some of the world’s biggest issues. The two films have been viewed by hundreds of millions of people around the world and are available in 25 different languages. Thanks to these films, hundreds of thousands of people signed up for the 30-day vegan challenge, and many have opened themselves up to new ideas. Keegan and Kip’s amazing talents, combined with a selfless dedication to vital truths, have merited the films’ huge success. “My films tend to be investigative documentaries, really digging deeper than you would get in mainstream media. That definitely comes with backlash. My co-director and I have gotten lots of death threats because of talking about this industry. We’ve been harassed and tried to be silenced. But the truth is that any sort of negative impact we could potentially get for ourselves personally, is nothing compared to the negative impact we’re seeing if this industry goes unchecked.” Touched by their selfless dedication to awakening the public on crucial issues, Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Thankfully present Keegan Kuhn and Kip Andersen the Shining World Compassion Award each, with a humble supportive token of $20,000 USD each, toward their humane project in God’s Love. May the Heavens love and shield you every day.”

Shining World Award for Earth Protection Recipient: Dr. Sailesh Rao (vegan) – Humble Endeavors to Protect Our Loving Earth

Shining World Award for Earth Protection Recipient: Dr. Sailesh Rao (vegan) – Humble Endeavors to Protect Our Loving Earth

In 2007, Dr. Rao, a shining beacon of courage and compassion, stepped away from his prominent career in electrical engineering at the prestigious Stanford University, to found Climate Healers, a non-profit organization tasked with healing the Earth’s climate crisis. “Then, in 2005, I happened to see Vice President Al Gore's presentation on TV. I started working on it from a systems perspective. The best and fastest way to solve the global warming crisis is for humanity to go vegan. There is nothing that comes close to what that can achieve. Because it will reduce emissions by about 30% directly, and then it will release 37% of the land area of the planet to be reforested. And on that land, the trees and the forests will sequester another 57% of the greenhouse gas emissions on an annual basis. So together, we get 87% at least, reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, if the world goes vegan.” “Yes, I absolutely have total faith in humanity that we are going to transition to a vegan world before 2026. Because that's what the science is telling us that we need to do. And if we don't do it, we are on track to wipe out almost all wild animals on this planet by 2026.” In appreciation of his invaluable work, our Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Gratefully present the Shining World Award for Earth Protection to Dr. Sailesh Rao with all praises, love and gratitude, in God's Grace.” “Along with the IPCC’s 2019 ‘Climate Change and Land’ report with United Nations climate change experts calling for urgent reduction of meat consumption to save our planet, the overwhelming evidence leaves no doubt of the root cause of our Climate Emergency. As the public becomes more aware from respected reports such as yours, governments will have the mandate to enact vegan law. For exemplary guidance and exceptionally wise research, for the courage and technical scientific brilliance to reveal the truth, and for bringing light and hope to the people, we hereby applaud and celebrate the vitally important Earth-protecting deeds of Dr. Sailesh Rao.”

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Sea Turtle Inc. for Sea Turtle-People Rescue

15:25

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Sea Turtle Inc. for Sea Turtle-People Rescue

Today, we will travel to South Padre Island, Texas, USA, home of Sea Turtle Inc. The organization was founded by IIa Fox Loetscher, affectionately known as “Turtle Lady,” who rescued and rehabilitated sea turtle-people, conserved their continuing population, and educated the public about their endangerment. Continuing Ila’s legacy and leading this non-profit organization today, is CEO (Chief Executive Officer) Wendy Knight. “We rehabilitate injured and sick sea turtles. For our residents, we have 350,000 gallons of water to mimic ocean life. All of our residents are here because they're disabled in some way. Or they have missing limbs or damaged limbs, we have one turtle that only has one fin. They're in there with crabs and fish, and seagrass and all of the things that they would normally have in the ocean.” Sea Turtle Inc. prepares for the occurrence of cold-stun every year. It can be overwhelming, because many sea turtle-people need attention simultaneously. This happened during the winter season of 2021, when the chilling seawater temperature put them into a state of hypothermia. The staff and volunteers of Sea Turtle Inc. sprang into action to rescue a record number of 5,300 sea turtle-persons. “We teach classrooms and children worldwide about the importance of conservationism. We have a large virtual and online gamut of programs where teachers and students and adults can take classes to really help understand how they can impact the natural world. We're trying to teach them about conservation, about litter, about recycling, and all of the things that they can do to help us advance the sea turtle population.” Our Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Tearfully present the Shining World Compassion Award to Sea Turtle Inc., plus a US$10,000 humble contribution to your benevolent efforts, with all love and gratitude. May Heaven bless you and the precious sea turtle- people forevermore.”

Shining World Preservation Award Recipients: Matthias and Isabella Walter (vegetarians) and the Peace Tree (Friedensbaum) Foundation

As spiritual seekers, Matthias and Isabella Walter never planned on becoming the founders of the Peace Tree Foundation until they received a revelation during a Sun Dance ceremony. Through this ceremony, they received the task of making a documentary film to share the vital message of spiritual leaders from the indigenous people of the Sierra Nevada De Santa Marta in Colombia, South America.“We are the Wisdom Keepers of the Natural Order, the Divine Order, all the laws that had been passed on by our spiritual ancestors. They exist in all trees, animals, waters, in our connection to Mother Earth, in our relationships as humans, of different cultures and races, as we are all part of the great humanity on this planet. We are the carriers of this message, the message of spirituality. Recognize that everything that exists interacts with one another. Every single one of us is equally important, so that all life can exist in harmony, balance, and peace.”Guided by their inner light, Matthias and Isabella Walter founded the Friedensbaum or Peace Tree Foundation in 2015, inviting whoever was willing to ritually plant one million peace trees worldwide in order to strengthen connections among all parts of creation. They assist people in rekindling their connection with Divine Nature through reconnecting with colorful, living biodiversity. “The prophecies are about a time when Mother Earth will clean herself, and a new people consisting of many colors, classes, nations, religions, young and old, poor and rich, will come together again. And this tribe will make the Earth green again with all its consciousness, with its power, and with its deeds. And these people will become known as the Rainbow Warriors.”Our Most Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Joyfully present Matthias and Isabella Walter the Shining World Preservation Award plus a humble US$10,000 contribution as a small token of support to the Peace Tree Foundation for peace on the planet, with lots of love and praises in prayers to Heaven.”

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Professor Andrew Knight (vegan) – The Path Forward in Veterinary Nutrition

16:36

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Professor Andrew Knight (vegan) – The Path Forward in Veterinary Nutrition

Originally from Australia, Professor Knight settled in the United Kingdom and led a brilliant career as a veterinarian and teacher of veterinary studies, animal welfare, and ethics. A true trailblazer, Professor Knight contributed significantly to transforming the traditional curriculum by campaigning for more humane practices to be implemented in place of invasive and harmful animal-people use. In addition, Professor Knight led educational research initiatives demonstrating how our animal-people companions can fully thrive on a plant-based diet. “Vegan animals seem to have less problems with being overweight. They have increased health and vitality. They have decreased rates of certain tumors now or fatty tumors are very common in animals that are too overweight. They may have less arthritis, they may have less diabetes and visual disorders resulting from diabetes.” “The other reason is that vegan diets are formulated to supply the same set of nutrients that balance meat-based diets are, but without any of the hazardous ingredients that can be found in meat-based diets.” People are often worried about plant-based diets not being natural for cats and dogs, and will they be less happy? “We looked at things like the speed at which they approached the food bowl, the speed at which they ate their food, vocalization, barking, salivating, licking food bowls, guarding behavior of their food, a whole range of signs. We couldn't find any significant difference.”“By producing all this research and these outputs, I hope to be able to show the world really that it's possible to maintain cats and dogs on vegan pet foods and to keep them healthy and also happy. And we're probably going to also prove that there are significant environmental benefits from doing this. And indeed, you can save many more people with the food energy that can be saved. It's estimated at millions of people, extra people could be fed, actually.” After learning about his beneficent work, Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Joyfully present the Shining World Compassion Award to Professor Andrew Knight, plus US $10,000 as a token to helping the research, with all love and high salute for your precious work. May you enjoy continued success and constant protection by Heaven.”

Shining World Invention Award Recipient: Dr. Karthikeyan Kandan – Golden Age Inventor of Affordable Sustainable Prosthetic Limbs

15:43

Shining World Invention Award Recipient: Dr. Karthikeyan Kandan – Golden Age Inventor of Affordable Sustainable Prosthetic Limbs

Dr. Karthikeyan Kandan, Associate Director of the Institute of Engineering Sciences at De Montfort University, United Kingdom, is an ingenious inventor and engineer of the Golden Age. “We focused on this research because there are 30 million amputees living in low-income countries. Giving the first prosthesis is very, very important, so that they can walk and then they can live their life and they have dignity. That’s the best thing you could do for less-abled people, I would say, rather than giving anything.” Dr. Kandan has ingeniously developed a new material made of plastic bottles that can be used to manufacture high-quality artificial limbs at a fraction of their regular cost. His technique involves grinding down plastic bottles to produce a polyester yarn that is then heated and moulded into a prosthetic limb. These artificial arms and legs are light and robust, and the average production cost of a single prosthetic limb is reduced from £5,000 to £10. “The plan is we are trying to educate the NGOs across the world. For example, we are trying to work with the NGOs in African countries and also the BMVSS (Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti) based in India; They have centers in 26 different countries. Then, they will be able to mass-produce the limbs.” Upon learning about this remarkable development, Supreme Master Ching Hai gladly presented Dr. Karthikeyan Kandan the Shining World Invention Award, “plus US$10,000 to humbly support this eco-pioneering and heart-body comforting invention.” She also added, “May Heavens inspire you more as you help better our co-citizens’ lives, in God’s abundant Grace.” “In recognition of your creative brilliance, ingenuity and scientific genius, creating low-cost, sustainable, planet-friendly prosthetic limbs, creating a brighter future for patients worldwide.” Dr. Kandan’s next project is the “bird-nest brick,” a low-cost, high-quality insulation building material made from plastic waste using 3D printing. Inspired by the Southeast Asian Baya weaverbird-people’s elaborately woven nests, the brick was invented to assist the less fortunate while reducing plastic pollution.

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Aimee’s Farm Animal Sanctuary

The founders of Aimee’s Farm Animal Sanctuary, Aimee Takaha and her husband Andy, reside in Queen Creek, Arizona, and have established a loving residence for rescued animal-persons for more than 11 years. Aimee’s personal journey as a survivor of child abuse from a very young age and its ensuing post-traumatic stress disorder, were the catalyst for the sanctuary’s creation. Aimee always noticed that her PTSD symptoms would ease and release its grip on her life when she turned her attention to receiving the powerful loving energy that animal-people so unconditionally emanate at all times. Aimee stated that the animal-people have indeed saved her life and adds: “That’s how I recognized the healing. They adore being hugged and cuddled, and seek out the guests for their hugs too!” Along her healing journey, Aimee came to know of distressed animal-people who also had suffered painful ordeals, and decided to return the blessings received by caring for animal-persons who faced their own traumas. “It hurts my heart to see them come to me with such fear in their eyes and broken bones. But we have a wonderful team of volunteers here and we help these animals trust again, they get a sparkle back in their eyes. And that's everything. When they overcome that.” Upon hearing about this amazing love, and the dedicated work of Aimee, Andy and all the volunteers at Aimee’s Farm Animal Sanctuary, Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Thankfully present the Shining World Compassion Award to Aimee’s Farm Animal Sanctuary, and a humble contribution of US$10,000 in loving support of your noble work, with much love and heartfelt gratitude, as well as special thanks to all who have contributed to your effort to save precious animal-people lives. May you, those you care for and all involved, be uplifted and shielded in God’s boundless Grace.”

Shining World Heroine Award Recipients: Jules Casey and PT Hirschfield (vegan)– The Passionate Marine Videographers and Photographers

On today’s Shining World Award program, we will walk you through the life-saving journeys of two avid divers who have spent a considerable amount of time filming underwater and sharing their deep connection with the ocean, via social media. Jules Casey and PT Hirschfield have both rescued many sea animal-people while scuba diving. One of their rescues in early 2021, involved saving a distressed Port Jackson shark-person tethered to the seabed by a hook from a tangled fishing line. “I've really found that being in the ocean had a profound impact on my health. I was a cancer patient, who had cancer three times 2010, 2013, and 2014. And even when I was recovering from surgeries, I found that the idea of getting back into the ocean was really a great motivating force in my life.” “We've rescued many different kinds of animals that were entrapped in the same way, with fishing hooks in their mouths with fishing line no longer attached to rods being held by people on the pier, just tethered to the seafloor and dying slow deaths. So, this is actually quite a common occurrence with this little Port Jackson shark and also with the Fiddler race, also known as Banjo sharks. So, this is actually something that unfortunately we do on a fairly regular basis.” As a child, PT Hirschfield found it disturbing to consume meat and decided that she wanted to be a vegetarian. She later faced the reality of the inhumane practices of the dairy & poultry industry and became vegan. “I cannot understand how anybody could eat an octopus once they have actually interacted with one. Once you meet an octopus, it changes everything for you. You hold out your hand and this little arm comes out and touches you, it really touches your heart.” Upon hearing about their touching act of kindness, our Most Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Tearfully present the Shining World Heroine Award to Jules Casey and PT Hirschfield for your compassionate rescue of the small, helpless shark-people, with heartfelt gratitude and love. May Heaven reward and bless you manyfold.”

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Nguyễn Thị Ngọc – A Loving Mother to Homeless Dog and Cat-People

The Shining World Award pays tribute to Ms. Nguyễn Thị Ngọc from Bình Chánh, Âu Lạc (also known as Vietnam), for the attentive, benevolent care she has been providing to more than a hundred homeless dog- and cat-people with disabilities during the past 7 years. She also lovingly crafts, with her own hands, 70 to 80 wheelchairs every month in order to enhance the health and mobility of these disabled furry friends.“I’ve loved the animal-people since I was a little child. Growing up, going outdoors and seeing them being abandoned, beaten, or hit by cars and motorcycles, and become disabled, I would love them even more. The handicapped, I love them more than the normal ones.” “What made me the happiest was rescuing a dog-person with all 4 legs disabled. I used physical therapy, and for the first time, the dog-person kid was able to stand on his/her 4 feet without a wheelchair, I shed tears of happiness! I feel that I must try and try harder to rescue such animal-people.”On hearing of her benevolence and immense love, our Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Joyfully present the Shining World Compassion Award to Ms. Nguyễn Thị Ngọc, and a grateful small gift of US$10,000 to further her noble work. May the Buddha’s love fill your good heart and bless you and those you care for.”“Dear Ms. Nguyễn, It is with great admiration and gratitude that we present to you the ‘Shining World Compassion Award’ for benevolently making wheelchairs for disabled animal-people. This Award is presented in recognition of your untiring, unconditional love for animal-people in need, and for your sacrificing commitment exemplifying the preciousness of all life. In Heavens Abundant Blessings and Mercy Supreme Master Ching Hai”Ms. Nguyễn was moved upon receiving the award and monetary contribution from Supreme Master Ching Hai. She expressed her deep gratitude to Master and wished to convey to our global audience an important message from her heart! “After watching Master’s video clips on YouTube, I vowed to change and become a vegetarian. Since the New Year, I changed completely to being vegetarian. I hope that everyone, our friends all over the world change to being vegetarian like me, and my animal-people friends. I thank you.”

The Shining World Award Recipients: Compassion Towards People and Animal-People in Need, Part 1 of 2

Let’s first meet a compassionate American vegan animal-people rights activist. Eder Lopez is the vice president of the non-profit Animal Alliance Network, one of the 700 chapters of the Animal Save Movement, which holds vigils outside slaughterhouses throughout the world. The objective of the organization is to “educate, take action, do outreach, and spread awareness of the daily atrocities animals endure due to human practices.” Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Gratefully present Eder Lopez of the Animal Alliance Network with the Shining World Compassion Award, plus US$10,000 to humbly support his endeavor to raise the public’s awareness of animal-people cruelty and exploitation. May you and all involved be forever loved by the Divine.”Now we journey to Bulgaria to meet a remarkable person who grew up in orphanages. Despite the difficulties he faced as a child, Boyko Grenzke was able to channel his negative experiences and turn them into something positive and constructive. The loving man founded the Oscar and Lora Center in his hometown, with a compassionate heart to rescue injured, unloved, and abandoned pet-people. On hearing of his exceptional love for the four-legged friends, Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Gratefully present the Shining World Compassion Award to Boyko Grenzke, with a humble token of support of US$10,000 for the Oscar and Lora Center, with all love and gratitude.” The last Award today is to honor a respected 87-year-young homeopath who continues to provide treatment to patients in remote villages in India. Ramchandra Dandekar, affectionately known as “doctor” by his patients, has been delivering Ayurvedic and homeopathic health treatment to locals in his home district of Chandrapur, Maharashtra, for more than six decades. When learning of his benevolent deeds, our Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Gratefully present the Shining World Compassion Award to Ramchandra Dandekar, with a humble contribution of US$10,000 in support of your benevolent work, with all love and gratitude in Divine grace.”

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Ferenc Matics – A Devoted Bird-Person Lover

12:58

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Ferenc Matics – A Devoted Bird-Person Lover

The melodic chirps of the bird-people often create a harmonious balance of mind and connect us more closely to Mother Nature. Today’s Shining World Award program features a devoted bird-person lover from Hungary who has spent more than a decade creating a nurturing environment for swallow-people. He uses environmentally friendly materials to build well-camouflaged nests for swallow-people. His initial efforts began with the construction of 10 nests and continued with many more over the years. Today he has a total of 430 nests under the eaves of his house. The earthy color of the tiny bird-people’s homes has attracted many swallow-persons to breed during the mating season. “They are in a terribly difficult situation building nests because even in the smallest village everything is paved. They can't find the right quality of mud. It's full of fine gravel and sand; They can't glue it together. Then there is no chance of nesting in time. And from the end of June, the salivary gland in their throat dries up and they can't glue the nest or the mud together. In the first place, that pair can't breed, unless they find such a place.” “So there are many, many bird lovers now. And they help them. My message to the people who love nature or want to help birds is to try to save them in any way they can, whether it's by building nests, feeding them, and the best way is to provide nesting sites.” Upon hearing about his compassionate deeds, our most Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Gladly present Ferenc Matics the Shining World Compassion Award plus US$10,000 to humbly contribute to this lifesaving effort. In Heaven's Mercy with big hugs, love, and thanks. May you and the elegant bird-people be in God’s Blessing always.”

Its purpose is to rescue farm animal-people that are abused, neglected, and cruelly treated, and provide them with the care and comfort they need to live out their natural lives in peace. Woodstock Farm Sanctuary began on a much smaller property that was mostly unfenced at the time. The number of animal residents has steadily increased over the years, and after moving to its current location, its infrastructure has been improved, with large barns being built to provide indoor facilities to the animal residents. Cow-people sheds, chicken-people coops, an animal-people hospital/treatment room and a visitors’ center have also been added. The sanctuary is now home to almost four hundred rescued farm animal-people of various kinds. “We provide them with daily medical care and anything that they need. We have an incredible caregiving staff here that tend to everything that you can think of that the animals might need, for the rest of their lives.” Many different kinds of rescued animal-individuals now reside at the sanctuary. These include some more familiar ones such as chicken, pig, cow and goat-people, and also some that are seen less often, such as turkey and llama-people. “We have our Facebook and Instagram accounts where we tell animal stories all the time. We always post about new rescues and the stories of animals that have been here for many years, special needs care. So there's a lot of videos on our social media platforms that reach hundreds of thousands of people that talk about our work.” Upon hearing about the Woodstock Farm Sanctuary, our Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai “Gratefully present the Shining World Compassion Award to Woodstock Farm Sanctuary with a loving contribution of US$15,000. We salute the great compassionate deeds of the Woodstock Farm Sanctuary. May Heaven always bless you both and all involved, abundantly.”

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: The Riley Farm Rescue – A Safe Haven for Animal-People

Today’s Shining World Award program features Marla Riley, the president and founder of The Riley Farm Rescue, located in Connecticut, United States. Marla and her team of caring volunteers work tirelessly to rescue our benevolent farm animal-people friends from slaughterhouses. In 2017, Ms. Riley moved away from adopting and caring for animal-persons in her backyard and expanded to a 10.5-hectare farm. Since then, she has rescued hundreds of animal-people from livestock auctions, along with those involved in other situations of neglect and abuse. “The Riley Farm Rescue saves and rehabilitates animals. We have over 220 animals under our care right now. This is their forever home. So, they do stay with us for the remainder of their lives, where we can provide them the love and care that they deserve. If you would like to follow our mission, we are on social media, the Riley Farm Rescue. We’re a non-profit. So, everything is, funded by donations 100%.”In March 2021, Marla and volunteers from the Riley Farm Rescue saved 18 lamb-persons, including 10 babies, from being auctioned. They were nursed back to health by volunteers, and then some were moved to other animal-people sanctuaries around the country to lead a safe, peaceful and fulfilling life. Upon hearing the news, our Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Thankfully present the Shining World Compassion Award to The Riley Farm Rescue plus a US$10,000 humble contribution to assist your life-saving work, with love and gratitude. May you and the sweet animal-people be blessed and protected by God’s Grace.”

Shining World Compassion and Courage Award Recipient: Animal Rebellion – Compelling Governments with Peaceful Civil Disobedience

Animal Rebellion is a mass movement with a vision to bring the climate crisis, biodiversity loss, and cruelty against animal-people to an end, using peaceful civil disobedience initiatives. Their aim is to compel governments to implement policies that help the public adopt the lifesaving plant-based lifestyle, in an effort to save the planet from imminent destruction. In October 2019, tens of thousands of environmental and animal-people protection activists of Animal Rebellion and its sister movement Extinction Rebellion, gathered in London for two weeks of peaceful demonstrations, sit-ins, and parades. Their slogans aim to bring attention to the climate emergency, requesting that governments simply “tell the truth” and “act now” on reducing emissions to net-zero by 2025, with a solution being to create a “citizen assembly” to discuss and bring light to these important issues. Their peaceful, creative and vocal stance has generated much media coverage and inspired many worldwide. “So, the only way we can address the climate emergency is by first addressing the animal emergency, and the strategy that we’ll be using will be non-violent direct-action civil disobedience because historically, this has been a way that’s just shown how to make systematic changes in the fastest time period.” “We are bringing attention to the fact that animal agriculture contributes roughly a quarter of all global greenhouse gases and is the leading cause of deforestation in the Amazon. And we cannot have the climate crisis and climate breakdown discussion without mentioning animal agriculture.” “We are killing more animals than ever before.” “This is a human rights issue, as well as [an] animal rights and an ecological issue.” Upon learning about this peaceful movement, Supreme Master Ching Hai presented Animal Rebellion with the Shining World Compassion and Courage Award, as well as a humble financial contribution of US$50,000 “with the deepest love, solidarity, and well-wishing. May all your members continue your all-important work of bringing justice, peace, and climate stability to the world with unabated success, in all Heaven’s glory.”

The Shining World Award Recipients: Compassion and Love Brighten Our World, Part 2 of 2

Today will bring us to Africa to meet the first awardee: The Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust (Chimpanzee Trust). For the past 22 years, the non-profit organization Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, in Lake Victoria, Uganda, has been offering safety, loving care and support to 50 orphaned and rescued chimpanzee-people. Upon learning of this loving haven for primate-people, our most Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Thankfully present the Shining World Compassion Award to the Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust, plus US$10,000 in caring support of your life-sustaining efforts for precious chimp-people, with heartfelt gratitude and best wishes. May you, your team and all those you care for be blessed and shielded by God always, in Divine benevolence.” The next Shining World Award honors an altruistic physician who offers free medical care in Yemen during COVID-19 lockdowns. Twenty-nine-year-old Dr. Sami Yahya al-Hajj has a sticker on his car’s rear window that says: “Stop me if you need a medical consultation.” During his commute to and from work, he provides complimentary medical advice right on the streets of Yemen’s capital city, Sanaa. Once apprised of his benevolent work, Supreme Master Ching Hai responded and: “Thankfully present the Shining World Compassion Award to Dr. Sami Yahya al-Hajj, and US$10,000 in humble support of your noble work and caring heart in assisting your vulnerable co-citizens, with high esteem and gratitude. May you and all those you help be always protected in the loving embrace of Allah.” Brady Snakovsky of Ohio, in the United States, was eight years-old when he watched a television program about police dog-people on duty and noticed that these noble canine-people units did not have protective outfits similar to those worn by their human colleagues. The compassionate boy decided to do something to help. He founded a charity called Brady’s K9 Fund and set up a GoFundMe page to support this initiative. The Fund has raised over US$315,000 and enables the purchase of protective vests for the working canine heroes. Touched by his love and care towards the canine heroes, our Cherished Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Happily present the Shining World Compassion Award to Brady Snakovsky, plus a US$10,000 humble contribution for this caring cause, with much love, praises and best wishes. May you and all involved be forever embraced in God’s grace.”

Let’s first journey to the United Kingdom to learn more about the first awardees, a group of kind-hearted children who enthusiastically put their love of singing to good use for nature conservation. Sim Macaulay, his mother Dorry, and their like-minded friends formed a community choir of children whose music centers on protecting the environment. Deeply touched by their wonderful song, Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Lovingly present the Shining World Hero Award to SOS From the Kids, and US$10,000 in humble support of your noble and sincere efforts, with all love, heartfelt gratitude, best wishes, and high praises. May Heavens forever watch over and protect you, in Divine benevolence.” Later, Master also offered another humble financial contribution of US$7,000 to support another project of the choir, a music video titled: “It’s Time to Heal.” And again later Master sent another US$10,000 “as a loving token of love, for the kids favorite vegan snacks while working on the songs.”The next Shining World Award was granted to an organization in New York City, United States, which is committed to rescuing cat-people. Amongst the most successful of these local non-profit organizations is Flatbush Cats. Their approach of using social media to post photographs and issue calls for support in the Flatbush neighborhood in Brooklyn has not only yielded donations to cover veterinary costs but also secured foster and permanent homes for many feline friends. On hearing of this noble work, our most Cherished Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Warmly present the Shining World Compassion Award to Flatbush Cats, plus a US$10,000 loving contribution for your benevolent and caring efforts for vulnerable cat-people, with lots of love, gratitude and heartfelt best wishes, in God’s immense blessing.”Our journey to Europe introduces us to Dimitar Dimitrov, a 50-year-young car mechanic who lives in the city of Ruse, Bulgaria. The clever mechanic allocates his spare time to make mobility aids for cat and dog-people. Upon learning of his exceptional love for the four-legged friends, Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Thankfully present Dimitar Dimitrov the Shining World Compassion Award and a US$10,000 contribution for this caring endeavor, with lots of love and gratitude.”Our Benevolent Supreme Master Ching Hai Lovingly awarded 21 Shining World Awards between September 2021 and January 2022, and Humbly contributed a total of US$180,000. Through Her loving and compassionate support, these awardees have been encouraged to keep going on their caring journeys of helping individuals and animal-people in need.
