The Olympics: Celebrating Unity and Peace through Sports, Part 1 of 3

Every two years, thousands of the best athletes from around the world gather to participate in the Olympic Games. Although they are competing in sports, their coming together is also a celebration of peace and unity. The central theme of togetherness and friendship is proudly declared and beautifully represented in the Olympic flag. Designed in 1912 by Baron Pierre de Coubertin, cofounder of the modern events, the flag has five colorful interconnected rings symbolizing the cordial bond of the five continents. The colors blue, yellow, black, green, and red were chosen because at least one of them appears on the national flag of every country in the world. Coubertin also intended the rings’ connection to one another to stand for a unified world. According to historical records, the very first Olympic Games were held in 776 BC in Olympia, southern Greece. After the first international Olympic Games was held in 1896, it wasn’t until 1928 that the modern Olympic flame tradition began. The Olympic torch is famously lit every two alternating years at the opening ceremonies of the Summer and Winter Olympic Games. The flame that lights the torch is created by using a parabolic mirror that concentrates the sun’s rays to spark the fire. By lighting the fire in this ceremonial way, it is believed the flame is at its purest. We’ll now explore how the Games gradually became more popular and came to be hosted by other countries. In ancient times during a truce, certain local rituals or “fun games” would take place in different regions throughout Greece, and the Greek term for this is Ekecheiria, which means the Olympic Truce or the “laying down of arms.” The Olympic Truce tradition is still being practiced to the present day. “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does.” Another instance where harmony and peace are promoted is found in the Olympic Charter which states that its goal is, “to place sport at the service of the harmonious development of humankind, with a view to promoting a peaceful society concerned with the preservation of human dignity.”

The Uncrowned Kings – Honest Journalism in the 21st Century, Part 2 of 2

Fortunately, there are some brave media groups and individuals today who have been doing their best to report truthfully on the facts as they unfold. In a recent conference with Supreme Master Television team members, Supreme Master Ching Hai noted: “The media, several of them are good, and straight and very, very insightful, and knowing, feeling more intuition about who’s good, who’s not, and also fairness. Like Fox News and New York Post. Others I…maybe there are one or two more.” Fox News Channel has been one of the few major media outlets that have strived to give a fair accounting of President Trump’s administration, and due recognition for its many achievements. Fox News also diligently searched for evidence and testimonies to uncover the widespread fraud that was committed during the 2020 Presidential election. The New York Post has also strived to report truthfully what the public should know, including information about the 2020 Presidential election and the related impeachment trial. “When you have the truth, when you have your conscience on your side – in this case, we just believe we did good reporting – stand by it. Sometimes, you can win. In the end, truth always wins.” Not only media outlets but also independent journalists are upholding fairness and truth in their important work. One of them is Pulitzer Prize-winning American investigative journalist Glenn Greenwald, who was a co-founding editor of The Intercept, an award-winning news organization. Although he was not entirely supportive of President Trump at the beginning of his presidency, Mr. Greenwald relied on his own thorough and unbiased investigations over the years, to call out the truth on certain matters, even if it opposed others’ or even his own previous views.

A Prayer For Compassion, Part 1 of 2

In this series, we are privileged to introduce an extraordinary, vegan-focused documentary called “A Prayer For Compassion,” produced and directed by Mr. Thomas Wade Jackson, an award-winning American filmmaker, photographer, musician, and Shining World Compassion Award Recipient. In July 2020, Supreme Master Ching Hai provided him with a humble gift of US$10,000 “to lovingly support his promotion of veganism.” By drawing a line between our spirituality and what we eat, the film brings attention to the pain and suffering of the animals who are turned into meat that people consume. It also examines the connection between our faith and responsibility to be the stewards of our planet. Jerome Flynn presents: “How can we expect ourselves to have lives of joy and freedom and spiritual clarity when we are sowing the seeds of the opposite of that?” “There's another passage in the Qur’an that says that because of the wrongs of humanity, there has been much corruption seen in the oceans and on land.” “So, for a few moments in which we're enjoying what is really just a palate preference, we're taking what is most essential to animals: their very lives. And that's the opposite of compassion, it seems to me.” A Prayer for Compassion. “♪ This little light of mine ♪ ♪ I'm gonna let it shine ♪” “This is my daughter, Melody. She's the reason I'm making this documentary. It's for her and it's for all the children who will inherit whatever world we choose to leave them.” “And during that meditation this question popped into my mind: ‘How is it possible that a compassionate, spiritual or religious person could support an industry that is responsible for the unnecessary suffering of billions of people, trillions of land and sea animals, and the devastation of the very planet we live on?’” “The first thing you can do, and the most important thing to do in saving this world and to living in the Heavenly world of God, starts on your dinner plate.”

A Prayer For Compassion, Part 2 of 6

A Prayer For Compassion, Part 2 of 6

“A Prayer For Compassion” also explores how the state of our planet is intrinsically linked with humankind’s spirituality, which in turn is affected by our daily decisions. “The environmental crisis is not a crisis of the bees and the birds or the trees and the toads, it's a crisis of how we live as spiritual beings in a physical reality. Therefore, in order to address this crisis, we're going to need to address the spiritual roots.” “So, the most important step that an individual can do today to address environmental destruction is to adopt a plant-based diet, which is as local as possible, which is as organic as possible. So it's Local Organic Vegan Eating - that’s L.O.V.E.” As Mr. Thomas Wade Jackson speaks to sincere devotees of different faiths, it is clear that the holy scriptures of the various religions share a common theme: we must treat all beings with respect and compassion. “Veganism is just a result of your own compassion towards all beings. And compassion is just a realization of your connectivity to nature. When you connect with your nature, with all the beings or with the whole of existence, you spontaneously become compassionate with everyone.” “To honor God is to honor the holy breath of every being and to see that the world needs each of us.” “The Book of Psalms teaches that the world is built through kindness. We bring Heaven down to Earth by perpetuating kindness.” “So the most central question we can ask ourselves every day is how can I increase compassion in the world today, through my every choice?” “Jesus' earliest followers, many of them were vegan because they got it. They got that Jesus was about mercy, compassion and love, and life. Choose life, give life, stop killing, show kindness to everything.” “My prayer is that each of us will challenge ourselves to be more kind and compassionate with our thoughts, words and actions, to vote wisely with our dollars and to take better care of all of creation including our body temples, and to take the time each day to go within and ask some version of what can I do to make the world better for those yet to come and then listen carefully for that still quiet voice to answer.”

The Uncrowned Kings – Honest Journalism in the 21st Century, Part 1 of 2

Over the last two decades we have all witnessed a phenomenon in the media industry that now jeopardizes the integrity of modern-day journalism: the consolidation of the news media companies around the world and the misuse of power by the big tech internet and social media companies. “There are hundreds of TV stations newspapers and radio shows, but the truth is that almost every avenue from which we get our information in the mainstream media is controlled by only six corporations that have one specific interest: profit.” As a result of a much more consolidated media industry, the importance of a journalist being honest and truthful when reporting on events has never been more crucial. Many people are now finding it difficult to discern what is truthful news from what is misinformation or biased news. With deep concern about the United States and the world’s future, our Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai has also given us spiritual insights about the former President, helping us to see through the veil of misinformation so as to better understand and appreciate the true benevolence of His Excellency Mr. Trump. “Heaven told me that he prays for peace.” a 2017 Harvard University study found that over 90% of all reporting by the media was negative towards President Donald Trump’s first 100 days in office. Then during his re-election campaign, the media continued with the negative bias against President Trump while underreporting any negative news about the opposing Presidential candidate. In a recent conference with the Supreme Master Television team, our Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai spoke about the effect of dishonesty in politics and the media during the recent US Presidential elections: “But America will lose trust from the international community. And people will also distrust the media, the mainstream media.” With all these unprecedented occurrences taking place today one has to ask, what has happened to journalism in the 21st century? Let’s look at the code of ethics that all respectable journalists would need to uphold: 1. Truth and Accuracy 2. Independence 3. Fairness and Impartiality 4. Serve Humanity 5. Accountability “So we must correct the journalistic education system. The media are the public’s eyes and ears. They should stick to reporting truth. Just report the true news like some of their straightforward, excellent colleague journalists.”

PreetiRang Animal Sanctuary: The Color of Love Part 3 of 4

In today’s program, we’ll learn about how PreetiRang has transformed people’s thoughts and feelings and convinced them to go vegan. “I first came to PreetiRang Sanctuary around my 16th birthday. Prior to that, I’d never met a cow, I’d never met a chicken or goat. So getting to hold one the first time or getting to hug one was really nice and it really just motivated me to stay vegan for the rest of my life because these are the animals that I’m saving. It’s still just as magical as the first time I came here, just getting to hug the cow it’s like just the most amazing experience ever and I really hope that everyone gets to experience this too one time in their life or another.” “I think the moral bankruptcy that we are facing can be addressed mainly by a vegan lifestyle, right? Including every living being in our circle of compassion, we need to see beyond ourselves. We need to see even beyond the human race. Greenhouse effects are huge. They are using up land. They're using up water that could be used more fruitfully to produce more food for animals. It could end global hunger.” “There was a gentleman who came here because his girlfriend brought him on her birthday, and just to keep her happy, he brought her here. She was very excited to be with the animals. So she would tell him to pose with the animals and he would put two fingers on a cow and one finger on a goat. You could see, he was not very comfortable when he started. Two, three hours later when the tour was over the only sentence he spoke with us, ‘All I eat is animals; how can I give them up?’ So we were laughing about that, but in like two or three weeks, the girlfriend wrote to us saying that he is ready to try to convert to a vegan lifestyle. And he credits his PreetiRang tour to that. And that's just one of the stories, but because it's such a contrast between’ All I eat is meat; how can I be vegan?’ to, ‘Yes, I'm ready to try vegan,’ it's a huge contrast.”

The Olympics: Celebrating Unity and Peace through Sports, Part 2 of 3

The Olympics: Celebrating Unity and Peace through Sports, Part 2 of 3

The story goes that the creation of the Olympic Truce began with two kings living near Olympia, Greece named Iphitos and Cleomenes I, who with the help of the Spartan lawyer Lycurgus, formalized an agreement to make the Olympic Truce a reality, and something that would later become an integral part of the Olympic vision. With this contract in place, the Olympic Truce provided security and safety for the Olympic arena and the host city Elis, and ensured peace during the Games. In ancient times, the Olympic Truce only protected the local areas around Olympia, but in the modern revised form, it extends to all countries around the world by reminding them to seek an end to meaningless fights during and after the Olympics. In 2000, the spirit of peace resounded during the Sydney Summer Games when South and North Korea walked together in the Olympic stadium under a common flag at the opening ceremony! Further exemplary cases were observed particularly in the United Kingdom. For instance, the London Summer Olympic Games of 2012 stands out as one of the best examples where all citizens of the world were encouraged to embrace the spirit of the Olympic Truce. UK diplomats orchestrated and led an earnest plea to all nations who were not in agreement to cease hostilities and seek peaceful solutions. Another spectacular instance was the Right Honorable Lord Michael Bates’ Walk of Truce. “I think what we need above all in the present time is that the Olympic ideal of seeing ourselves as part of something which is greater than a national boundary, part of civilization, or one exactly the same, living under the same rules, living in harmony. That is a peace which can inspire and has inspired.” To date, more than 200 countries have participated in the Olympics since its revival in 1896. This is quite an accomplishment in uniting the world and greatly contributes to world peace. In Rio de Janeiro’s 2016 Summer Games, a one-of-a-kind team participated; for the very first time a team consisting only of refugees was formed. The Refugee Olympic Team came from four different countries and included two swimmers, two judokas, a marathoner, and five medium-distance runners.

The Human Toll of COVID-19

15:28

The Human Toll of COVID-19

Since the first cluster of “unknown pneumonia” was reported at the end of 2019, the highly contagious and serious virus identified as COVID-19 has swept across the globe, affecting more than 84 million people and claiming over 1.8 million lives as of January 1, 2021, according to John Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center. The numbers are increasing daily. COVID-19 spares no one, and those who are affected by the virus or lost their lives to it include top political leaders, religious heads, royalty, wealthy businesspeople, as well as famous artists, athletes, and many others who are top-notch in their fields. COVID-19 not only casts a shadow over the lives of the top leaders, religious heads, artists, and athletes, but all of us. Everyone is affected in one way or another. As world governments, scientists, and researchers rush to develop and release vaccines, a more infectious new strain of COVID-19 was discovered in the UK at the end of 2020, causing spikes in cases and renewed concern. When can we see the end of this pandemic? Supreme Master Ching Hai provided insights in one of the recent conferences with the Supreme Master Television team. “I don’t know how long until we are free from this COVID-19. It depends on humans. (Yes, Master.) If they U-turn and live compassionately, no more killing animals or man, then this pandemic will disappear in no time, without any medicine, without vaccine, without any trouble. But if they continue the way it is, I don’t know, I cannot guarantee. I can help some. But I cannot help completely.” Humans are the cause of the pandemic and are also the solution. We pray that all people are awakened to their original loving nature and hasten the arrival of a vegan world, so that the tragedies of global pandemics will be a thing of the past forever.

PreetiRang Animal Sanctuary: The Color of Love Part 1 of 4

PreetiRang Animal Sanctuary: The Color of Love Part 1 of 4

PreetiRang Sanctuary is located in the center of Solano County, California, USA, and is home to many rescued farm animals. The co-founders of the facility, Madhulika Singh and her husband Mukul Banbihari, devote their lives to caring for the animals and to promoting the vegan way of life. After learning about the couple’s support of animals, filmmaker Tony Sehgal, decided to make a documentary on the PreetiRang Sanctuary. “The mission of PreetiRang Sanctuary is to provide a refuge for animals that have been rescued from the animal livestock industry. The more important part of our objective is to provide information to people who visit, and via social media, regarding the lives of these animals, what they are typically treated as in the factory-farming setting, to get them to know the animals and to encourage them to come visit and have a good time with the animals here.” “And so they're very much like human beings in their daily life. However, in some respects, they are more spiritual than human beings. They can live in the present moment and that's the lesson I'm learning from them. They reciprocate love with love.” Many times, our beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai has also confirmed that animals are just like humans. “They are just like you; they are just born in different form. Just like the brother next to you, he is black and you are white, and the other one is red. Just born in different color, different form, but that's the same soul in it. Do you understand? I guess you understand. I hope the people outside understand. Just like different flowers. I told you already, yeah? The red, the blue, the rose, the purple, they're all classified as flowers. The same, humans, animals, birds, others, they're all classified as beings, living beings or sentient beings. How smart they are! And they are so peaceful! They are born to color our life, not to be killed and eaten. This is a terrible sin that the humans committed, killing such innocent friends.” Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Joyfully present the Shining World Compassion Award to the PreetiRang Sanctuary along with a humble contribution of US$10,000 to support its benevolent work of promoting veganism to save our world, with all admiration, love, and gratitude. May God always bless you abundantly.”

PreetiRang Animal Sanctuary: The Color of Love Part 4 of 4

14:05

PreetiRang Animal Sanctuary: The Color of Love Part 4 of 4

In the PreetiRang documentary, Madhulika refers to her Indian cultural background as being the major influence in leading her to start the sanctuary. “In Sanskrit there is a saying ‘Vasudaiva kutumbakam,’ all people on this Vasudaiva, on this Earth, are one family, so we hope that in the future, more and more people will realize that and that this world will actually start becoming one. We would like people to come here, visit our animals, get to experience animals other than cats and dogs and realize that we are really all related. We feel the same way, pain and love and joy, so we want to bring this realization to the world.” “And if you truly believe that we are the highest, we have the highest evolved form on this Earth, if you truly believe that we are moral, spiritual, then we have no choice but to enlarge our circle of compassion, include everybody and treat all life with respect because every life deserves a chance to express itself. No life should be forcefully taken.” “And my wish is that we are in a more compassionate world, that we study how by ignoring or killing or hurting other animals, how we hurt ourselves or how by helping other living beings prosper, how we benefit ourselves, we learn all those things, we raise the awareness for that. And as you know veganism is not restricted only to animal rights and taking care of animals. Veganism is an extended fight against sexism, against abuse of children. So, we want no segment of society to suffer. We want to help.” Supreme Master Ching Hai along with all of our Association members has been praying every day for a vegan world because it is the only answer to all the challenges we are facing. “Because it’s all only one answer: the VEGAN DIET, the VEGAN WORLD, that will rescue our planet and secure lasting peace for all beings on Earth. Do be vegan. THAT’S THE RIGHT THING and that’s all you have to do. Everything else will fall into place. It will be all benevolence, merciful, compassion, happiness all over our planet if you do that.”

The Olympics: Celebrating Unity and Peace through Sports, Part 3 of 3

Today, we’ll discuss in more detail how some of these extraordinary individuals of the past set a high standard for present and future athletes to follow. Young Wilma Rudolph of the United States suffered from polio for years, but nonetheless managed to win a bronze medal in the 4 x 100 meters relay at the Melbourne Olympic Games in 1956, aged only 16. Four years later, she went on to win gold in the 100-meter dash at the 1960 Rome Olympics. What Wilma demonstrated may at first seem like a miracle, but in fact her achievements were due to her incredible personal effort, inner strength, indubitable discipline, and deep desire to succeed. Despite being praised by people around the world for bringing home four gold medals from the Berlin Olympic Games of 1936, the US athlete Jesse Owen felt the most beautiful gift he received was his friendship with a German athlete. Being frustrated with his poor performance in the long jump during the qualifying round, Owen received sincere consolation from his new friend, who also happened to be his strongest competitor, Luz Long of Germany. Although political tensions existed between the United States and Germany at the time, Luz Long valued friendship regardless of a person’s nationality or ethnicity. Canadian sailor Lawrence Lemieux was highly expected to win in the Finn class sailing event at the 1988 Seoul, Korea Summer Olympics. Holding second place in the race and knowing he could pass his opponent to win, Lemieux saw one of the other two-person boats had flipped over. He could see that one crew member was holding on tight to the boat and was relatively safe, but the other member was fighting for his life in the water. Lemieux decisively left the race and saved the stricken boat crewmember, later rejoining his team to finish in 22nd place. However, after a redress from the race judges, he was credited with second position. At the medal ceremony to recognize and honor his heroic deed, Lemieux was awarded the Pierre de Coubertin Medal for “Sportsmanship for his act” by the Honorable Juan Antonio Samaranch, President of the International Olympic Committee. Lemieux felt surprised at the abundance of media attention and interest in his selfless deed, after which he said it was “something I believe anyone would have done in the same circumstances.”

PreetiRang Animal Sanctuary: The Color of Love Part 2 of 4

PreetiRang Animal Sanctuary: The Color of Love Part 2 of 4

Madhulika Singh and Tony Sehgal, not only love animals and care deeply about our environment, but also follow the planet-saving vegan diet. “I went vegan shortly after watching a documentary that really opened my eyes to the impact of animal livestock industry on our environment. I'd always considered myself an environmentalist. I majored in biology before going into filmmaking and I was completely unaware of the impact animal livestock industry has on the environment specifically, let alone animal suffering and health. So once I realized that I felt unless I went vegan, I couldn't consider myself an environmentalist.” “Well, one of the leading causes of climate change is animal livestock industry. We make very inefficient use of land and water for raising animals and the crops for animals. And the meat industry also produces more greenhouse gases than all forms of transportation, whether it's land or sea or air, all combined together. And in making inefficient use of land, we keep cutting forests We are deforesting the Amazon. We are deforesting many different rain forests to produce more and more crops for our animals that we'll consume. And it's very inefficient.” “And currently we are going through the sixth mass extinction, and all this is really depleting our Earth and creating a climate change. So if we adopt a vegan lifestyle, if we don't need animal food, animal accessories, like leather belts, leather wallets, leather shoes, then we will not need animal farming. So we will strike down a very huge cause of climate change.” Supreme Master Ching Hai also says that a vegan diet is a solution to global warming. “Adopting a plant-based diet can halt as much as 80% of global warming, eradicate world hunger, stop war, promote peace, and it will free up the Earth's water as well as many other precious resources, offering a lifeline for the planet and for humanity. In short, it will very quickly halt many of the global problems facing us right now. Therefore, it is vital that we change our lifestyle – setting a noble example for others to follow, and do our part to bring to the public's attention the urgent climate change issues and its solutions; the foremost being vegan diet, the vegan diet, to safeguard our precious planet.”

Golden Age Politics: Australia’s Ms. Kathy Divine (vegan), Part 2 of 2 (INT - In English)

Golden Age Politics: Australia’s Ms. Kathy Divine (vegan), Part 2 of 2 (INT - In English)

On today’s program, Ms. Divine tells us more about her latest book, “Golden Age Politics: Inspired, Ethical Politics for a Peaceful, Thriving World.” One of the reasons Kathy wrote this book was because she was so impressed by some of the current vegan politicians. She tells us about some of the people who have inspired her the most. “Maneka Gandhi from the Indian parliament, she’s an amazing leader. She’s also running animal sanctuaries and doing a lot of charity work.” “I also think the New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern is doing fantastic work at the moment.” “And in Golden Age Politics, the whole idea of it is to have a vision, even if you don’t win.” “Because you may not win the first time that you’re a candidate, but you're bringing that vision into the world and, you're just creating the first steps towards ethical leadership in politics.” “With the crisis of climate change and all of the other environmental emergencies, with the pandemic, and all of the issues that are really pressing humanity right now, if there is no basis of a plan for the environment, for climate change, if the leaders are not up to the task of dealing with that, if they are not sharing the vegan message as the biggest solution, they must step aside and let people with the required ethics take charge and quickly get into place the necessary things that we need to create ethical leadership, and to stop the pandemics and to stop climate change in its tracks.” “‘Golden Age Politics’ came about from Supreme Master Ching Hai’s slogan, ‘Be Vegan, Make Peace’. So, the book has a very simple message that is all around ethical politics and around Master’s message of ‘Be Vegan, Make Peace’. So, we first need to be vegan, (then) we can go into politics with our vegan values and create world peace.”

Golden Age Politics: Australia’s Ms. Kathy Divine (vegan), Part 1 of 2

12:33

Golden Age Politics: Australia’s Ms. Kathy Divine (vegan), Part 1 of 2

Ms. Divine is the author of six books, including “Plant-Powered Men,” “Plant-Powered Women,” and “Vegans are Cool.” She is the founder of the magazine, “Australian Vegans Journal,” as well as the founder of the Plant-Powered Women Leadership Conference Series. “My latest project is a book called Golden Age Politics.” Ms. Divine explains what inspired her to write the book and what she hopes to achieve through it. “I wrote the book ‘Golden Age Politics’ to give people hope that we can create the world that we’ve always dreamed of. Leaders in government, they are the ones making the laws, so it’s crucial that we have ethical people in politics. So, part of the aim of the book is to inspire ethical people, ethical vegans to go into politics and be the leaders that we’ve always needed, and the leaders, particularly right now, that we urgently need. The book is for voters and it’s also for aspiring political candidates, and people already in parliament, to inspire their work. And to help people vote consciously and carefully at the next election. What I’m hoping to achieve with ‘Golden Age Politics’ is just to start conversations, get people more engaged in politics, more excited about leadership potentials. The first key message in the book is just a simple one. To vote consciously and carefully at the next election, whatever that is, whenever that may be in your country. So that just means thinking about the candidates, thinking about what they're offering, and just really caring about your vote. And to vote also where, in some countries, where it's voluntary to vote, do go and vote because your voice is important. And your beliefs and your values are important. So please do vote. Because the more people that vote, the more people that get involved, the more potential there is for politics to be inclusive for everybody and also a positive experience. Another message is that I think ethical vegans are so well qualified to be politicians. So, I would encourage vegans all around the planet, not just into political positions, because that doesn’t suit everybody, and that’s not everybody’s mission and destiny. But to encourage you to be leaders in your own community. So, vegans can be leaders in their family, they can be leaders in their workplace, in their community groups, even in your sporting groups. On whatever level, you can contribute. Bring those ethical vegan vibes into your place of work or into your family, and be the leaders that we urgently need right now. Because being vegan is the foundation from which everything else flourishes. So, if we are all vegan, we all have ethics backing up our lifestyles, then we can all be leaders, and we can turn around all the big issues like climate change and pandemics and everything else that we faced this year and we will face ongoingly. If we are all vegan as a foundation, that is the best criteria for leadership.”
