Greta Thunberg (vegan) Tells the World: Be Vegan to Save the Planet

Greta, whose efforts to halt climate change have been internationally recognized, has received numerous honors and awards, including the Shining World Heroine Award and the Normandy Freedom Prize of France, was named Time’s youngest-ever “Person of the Year,” and was listed by Forbes as one of the “World’s Most Powerful Women.” Greta first heard about global warming at school when she was eight. She was deeply concerned and started reading everything she could find about climate change. When she discovered that raising livestock is the foremost cause of greenhouse gas emissions, she immediately adopted a vegan lifestyle and insisted that her family do the same. Thus, in August 2018, Greta began protesting every Friday in front of Stockholm’s Parliament buildings. She stood alone, holding a hand-made sign reading, “School Strike for Climate.” When reporters asked her why she was not in school, she said that climate change was more urgent than education, and we must change the way we live if future generations are to survive. As awareness of her cause grew, Greta began to receive numerous speaking engagements. In December 2018, she addressed world leaders at the United Nations Conference of Parties (COP)- 24 Climate Change Conference in Katowice, Poland. “Our house is on fire. I am here to say, ‘Our house is on fire.’ According to the IPCC, we are less than 12 years away from not being able to undo our mistakes.”In May 2021, Greta helped make a short film called “#ForNature.” In this powerful documentary, Greta clearly explains in her own words the connection between raising livestock and the many crises facing our world today: pandemics, biodiversity loss, climate change, and more. She tells viewers that to simultaneously solve all of these problems we must make a global shift to the compassionate, noble vegan lifestyle.Greta not only wants all people to adopt the vegan lifestyle, but she also wants world leaders to truly assume their leadership role. She sent the following tweet to her millions of followers: “We – the 99.9 percent – have a responsibility to put pressure on the 0.1 percent in charge who refuse to stop the ongoing destruction of present and future living conditions for life on Earth.”

Where Does Supreme Master Ching Hai Live? Part 1 of 6

Over several decades, while tirelessly travelling around the world to spread the Truth and elevate the planet, Supreme Master Ching Hai has stayed in simple abodes known only to a handful of people. You may be as curious as we were to know what these homes are like. With Master's gracious permission, we are privileged to present some glimpses into Her private living quarters in various countries, where She resided during different periods. Along the way, we'll also share related touching stories, which may give us insights into Master's caring and harmonious way of life. In the 1980s, after returning from Her quest to find the Truth in India, Supreme Master Ching Hai officially began Her mission in Taiwan, also known as Formosa. Not having a place to stay at first, Supreme Master Ching Hai and Her renunciates lived in tents with few belongings, camped by riversides, and moved from place to place….

Innovative Ideas for Living More Sustainably, Part 2 of 3

Innovative Ideas for Living More Sustainably, Part 2 of 3

On today’s program, we’ll visit Jess Morales of Montreal, Canada who, along with her husband and their two young children, are living zero-waste lives. “When we first began, we did a trash audit, which is just a fancy way of saying we looked in our trash can to see what was in there. We realized that most of our garbage was food waste and food packaging. So, we stopped buying pre-packaged meals and snacks, and now we buy loose fruits and vegetables. And we also opt for things that we can buy easily available in bulk, like seeds, nuts, and raisins, things like that to snack on. And, instead of buying packaged meals, we cook a lot of our stuff from scratch.” Let’s now return to Jess and her family, and discover how they deal with inedible food waste, such as vegetable peelings and fruit cores. “So, we started composting. Now our compost is nothing fancy. It’s just our old garbage can with holes drilled into it. But eventually, our city started a curbside compost collection as well. So just this very simple change of composting helped us reduce our waste by about 40%.” “So, to prevent us from accumulating unnecessary things, we asked our family members to give experience gifts or activities, or simply just to give the gift of their time. So, for Christmas this year our kids got snowboarding lessons. They went bowling for the first time with their auntie. They loved it. And for their birthdays, they got swimming lessons and dance lessons. So, we find these types of gifts really enrich our children’s lives; they create memories, and also long-lasting skills.” Our most gracious Supreme Master Ching Hai frequently encourages us to minimize our possessions and simplify our lives, because a simple life has many benefits. “It’s not that we have a big house and a luxury place, then we feel happy. I can guarantee it. You have my word. The more stuff we have, the more troublesome it becomes. We have to wipe and to clean it, and worry about it getting taken away by others, worry about thieves. If we have nothing then we have nothing to worry about. If we have little and cherish what we have, it will be just the same as if we own a lot. We feel even happier than having more stuff.”

Climate Crisis: Countdown to Year Zero, Part 2 of 7

On today’s program we’ll continue watching “Countdown to Year Zero,” by joining a student climate change strike in New York City. “If we don’t do this to make huge, huge, huge changes in the next five to ten years, our kids are all going to be climate refugees.” “For way too long, the politicians and the people in power have got away with not doing anything to fight the climate crisis.” “I would tell consumers to eat less or no meat, to move towards a plant-bused diet. We need the natural world, and we’re destroying it so fast. Unless we all get together now, it will be too late.” “So we are here to start the ball rolling for a Vegan World by 2026. Clearly the system that normalizes violence is going to end whether we like it or not. It’s going to end because the Earth is saying, “It’s no more.” Within eight years, climate change is going to be crazy. It is telling us, the Earth is telling us we have to change. And there is this one light that you see at the end of the tunnel. And you see that light, and that’s nonviolence.”

Water: A Precious Resource for Life on Earth, Part 1 of 2

Water: A Precious Resource for Life on Earth, Part 1 of 2

"Every year, on the 22nd of March, the world comes together to help create water awareness. Everyone, from our world leaders to children in primary schools, join the fight against the abuse, pollution, and over exploitation of our precious water resources." Fresh water is the resource that all of us must share to meet many of our daily needs. We need fresh water for drinking, cooking, personal hygiene, and operating our sanitation systems. We also use fresh water for raising animals, irrigating crops, and manufacturing. Even today, fresh water is scarce. Why do we currently have a water shortage? There are several reasons. First, over the past 100 years, the Earth’s population has grown rapidly. In addition, as technological advancements and wealth increase, the demand for fresh water has risen much faster than the growth in population. According to the United Nations, the average person now uses twice the amount of water per day than was used a century ago. However, far more serious than our growing population and increasing per capita demand is the greatest threat of all: climate change. As a result of rising global temperatures, rivers, lakes, and aquifers are either drying up or becoming too polluted to use. The situation has become so critical that the UN estimates if we do not halt climate change, by 2050 more than two-thirds of the world’s population will be living in water-stressed regions. Supreme Master Ching Hai frequently expresses concern about our ever-increasing global water shortage and recommends the fastest and most efficient solution to this critical problem is adoption of the organic vegan lifestyle. “Water scarcity is a serious problem, because without enough water we cannot grow food. But 70% of all water used by humans goes to agriculture – especially (animal) livestock agriculture, livestock raising. So, the best place to conserve water is through food, manageable food, sustainable food, not animal food. And the best way to feed more people with less water is also through food, sustainable food practices, sustainable agriculture, organic vegan agriculture. So, we all should go vegan, and the best is organic vegan.”

Climate Crisis: Countdown to Year Zero, Part 1 of 7

Welcome to Part 1 of our seven-part series on the Climate Crisis, featuring the illuminating documentary, “Countdown to Year Zero.” “We have been living in this system of normalized violence and we've been killing animals at such a fast pace. I mean, we kill more animals in four to 12 hours than all the humans that ever died in wars throughout human history put together.” “If you look at the World Wildlife Fund “living Planet Report,” it gives you the statistics that tell you very clearly, we have to change by 2026, otherwise, we are in big trouble. Death and extinction. This is a very serious issue. It's something that we have never ever faced before as humanity. We have been living in this system of normalized violence and we’ve been killing animals at such a fast pace.” “It takes eight pounds of grain to produce one pund of beef. We could stop destroying the forest. We could end world hunger, human world hunger, by giving that food directly to starving children. And we could save all these animals, and we could stop climate change if we just changed our diets.”

The Latest Fashion Trend: Eco and Sustainable, Part 2 of 2

The Latest Fashion Trend: Eco and Sustainable, Part 2 of 2

Today, we will continue to explore more of these meaningful and creative ideas and their applications. Besides the sensible considerations of presenting clothes worn by models with different body sizes, social and environmental consciousness have also made their ways into fitting rooms. Online fitting rooms, also known as virtual fitting APPs, are coming into play. In addition, the same technology can be used to create solely digitalized clothes with our videos or photos. We are able to “wear” clothes without necessarily buying them physically and growing our wardrobe collection unnecessarily. With the awakening of public humanitarian concerns and environmental awareness, more consumers care for not only the product itself but also the stories behind the fashion brands. Fair Trade implemented a platform to help these workers, who are providing the quickest fashion products, to get more reasonable compensations for their labor. Fashion companies that follow Fair Trade stipulations are providing better working conditions and fair treatments to employees, especially in disadvantaged countries. Recently “the-good-trade” sustainable community also published 35 Fair Trade fashion brands, which helps consumers in selecting guilt-free fashions to their hearts desire. We, the fashion consumers, have the right to know where our money is going because we don’t want to invest in businesses that harm our earth. Thus, transparency in the fashion product supply chain is important. A Shanghai based company, Icicle, aims to provide honest and environmentally responsible products by strictly controlling and tracing businesses’ production processes. These include sustainable materials, supplier selection, working conditions, production facilities, dyeing processes or no dyes at all, and post waste handlings.Besides recycling and reuse, reducing consumption can be tackled too. Some experts have called for a total abandonment of fast fashion, which is contributing to the environmental crisis. Not to mention that fast fashion brands are known to pay workers low wages while demanding the quickest possible finished products. Fast fashion brands, such as Lucy & Yak, made their decision to break away from this business practice in 2020. They closed their factory in India for safety concerns for workers, and also launched a fundraising campaign to help those affected and their families.

The Intelligence and Spirituality of Trees and Plants, Part 1 of 2

13:06

The Intelligence and Spirituality of Trees and Plants, Part 1 of 2

While walking in a garden or forest can you feel the positive energy in your surroundings? If you can feel their pleasant vibes the plants or trees may be sending you “mystical signals!” Professor Michael Pollan, an expert in plant neurobiology, explains, “They have analogous structures. They have ways of taking all the sensory data they gather in their everyday lives, integrate it and then behave in an appropriate way in response. And they do this without brains, which in a way, is what's incredible about it, because we automatically assume you need a brain to process information.” Our dear, compassionate Supreme Master Ching Hai has a loving message to share with us about the divine nature of plants and trees. “Now, trees, they do have their magical power, their healing power, loving power, and they do help you with advice and all that even. But you, the deaf, don’t hear anything, see nothing. Every grass, like a big, maybe a group of grass, every tree, has a spirit of some kind that dwells in it, takes care of the tree, or that is their dwelling place. They are assigned to stay there and that’s their home. And they do bless the surroundings; that’s their job.” Professor Claire Grierson, a plant biology expert, shares a similar view. She says, “I think plants are massively taken for granted. I think they are extremely sophisticated organisms. They are adapting exquisitely well to the changes around them all the time. I think we can learn a lot from plants philosophically.” Let’s conclude part one of this series with a fascinating revelation about plants from Supreme Master Ching Hai. “Of course, the Tree of Life symbolizes life, and the deity wants to remind us that we do not destroy life, because if we destroy other life, then we destroy our own life also. If we destroy trees, which give us oxygen and shade, and hold the soil together so that it will not be washed away, and so many things that the tree can do, and if we keep cutting them, just to raise the animal-people, then we kill the animal-people as well, then our lives will be at stake also.”

Zoonotic Diseases: Nature’s Self-Defense, Part 1 of 2

12:34

Zoonotic Diseases: Nature’s Self-Defense, Part 1 of 2

“Through COVID-19 the planet has delivered its strongest warning yet that we must change our ways. Human activity has altered virtually every part of the land. As we displace the natural world, we’re destroying vital ecosystems and the biodiversity that thrives on them. We are causing climate change, harming our ability to feed ourselves, opening the door to new illnesses such as COVID-19. It’s time to listen to the planet’s warnings.” “To care for humanity, we MUST care for nature. We need our entire global community to change course. Let’s rethink what we buy and use. Adopt sustainable habits, farming, and business models. Safeguard remaining wild spaces and wildlife. And commit to a green and resilient future. As we work to build back better, let’s put nature where it belongs -- at the heart of our decision making.” “Because these infectious diseases or infectious agents are stored deep inside our wilderness. It is nature’s defense weaponry. She would release it as new pathogens that we call when we cross our limits. So, when we raise the threshold of the biodiversity loss, these pathogens – these new pathogens are emergent pathogens – are going to be released. So, it all depends on our actions. A large number of studies have shown that pathogens are in a state of undiluted equilibrium in the complex stable and undisturbed ecosystem. So, if the ecosystem remains in that state, which is undisturbed, stable, and complex, then nothing is going to happen. We are perfectly safe.” “So, in one sense COVID-19 or any other emerging zoonotic diseases is nothing but nature’s retribution. Mind that, just like the case of hornets and snakes, it’s not a deliberate murdering, you see? These zoonotic diseases are nothing but nature’s own self-defense strategy; not (an) offense, but it’s (a) defense.”

Climate Solution: A Revealing Documentary by United in Heart, Part 4 of 4

On today’s program we present an interview with Mr. Arvin Paranjpe, who explains the three greatest environmental threats facing humanity today. “In 1992, there were three environmental threats to humanity that were identified, and they are: biodiversity loss, ecosystems collapse, and climate change. Biodiversity and ecosystems sustain us. They produce oxygen. They ensure that there's water flowing through the water cycle so we have fresh water, and they ensure that we have healthy soils.” “Vegan reforestation is reforesting (the) extra land made available by switching to veganism. The standard American diet requires 10 to 13 times more land than the vegan diet, and our animals consume about 50% of the grain on Earth. So, if we switch to a vegan diet, we will free up 35% of the usable land area on Earth. And if we reforest a substantial portion of this land, we will remove a significant amount of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.” “I think that we are living in very scary times. And I would just say to people, ‘Continue to have faith, have faith in yourself, have faith in humanity, and have faith in your spiritual teacher.’ In Hinduism, we have this concept of ‘Sraddha,’ which means both ‘faith’ and ‘resolve.’ And I think that we have nothing to worry about if we have the faith and we have the resolve to carry out the teachings of the great gurus of humanity. And in fact, I believe that we're going to undergo what I call the ‘twin renaissances,’ which is the regeneration of the natural world and the renaissance of the human spirit.” Citing the many climate-related disasters our Earth is experiencing, our Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai frequently reminds us about the imminent dangers of climate change and shares the simplest and most effective solution -- the organic vegan diet. “In short, simply saying ‘No’ to meat will make us richer, healthier, and most importantly, it will make us a wiser person, and a great hero. Because it is the only timely way that we ensure the survival of our children and grandchildren.” “The foremost being vegan diet, the vegan diet, to safeguard our precious planet. It is time to walk the talk, because there is not much time left now.”

Thawing of the Permafrost: Countdown to a Climate Catastrophe, Part 1 of 2

Thawing of the Permafrost: Countdown to a Climate Catastrophe, Part 1 of 2

Permafrost covers are widespread in the Arctic regions of Siberia, Canada, Greenland, and Alaska. They play a vital role in stabilizing the planet’s climate by functioning as a cover that seals in gas hydrates, which are crystalline solids containing huge amounts of carbon-based elements. It’s worrying that the rapid melting of permafrost, caused by high temperatures, can lead to dramatic changes in the atmosphere. Climatologists have long viewed the thawing of the Arctic’s permafrost as a ticking “climate time bomb.” Supreme Master Ching Hai has spoken on this topic many times, saying, “If the methane in the whole world, under our feet, is one day released, then we’re all gone. Because it’s heating up now, and all this permafrost and whatever that protected the methane, hiding the methane gas before, could be all melted, and sooner maybe than we think. And then that’s it. That will be sudden. It’s already releasing some. We don’t need to wait too long if that happens. (Yes, we pray that the world will be vegan so that we can avert that.) Yes. That’s why we’re praying every day one hour.” Leneisja Jungsberg, a research fellow at Nordregio, highlighted the urgency of the situation, saying, “Permafrost thaw is a ticking bomb for the climate. The increase in permafrost thaw – caused by global warming – has the potential to release substantial amounts of sealed carbon dioxide and methane, which is a very powerful greenhouse gas. This, in turn, intensifies climate change. It’s a vicious circle.” Supreme Master Ching Hai has often discussed the dangers caused by the melting of the permafrost and what we can all do to stop climate change. “Meanwhile, potent methane gas, once frozen beneath the Earth, has become a ticking time bomb due to rising temperatures in the Arctic and is now set to trigger runaway climate change. We are living [in]the worst-case scenario and the scientists are crying out for us to hit the emergency brake now, and hard. So it’s the emergency brake that we need, and the place that we need, and the place to start is the animal-people livestock industry. Because the animal-people livestock industry, animal-people raising, generates the largest human-made source of methane. It is also a very large source of black carbon, or soot, and accounts for at least 51% of all greenhouse gas emissions that heat up our planet. So if we stop the animal-people livestock industry, then we will stop global warming – fast and simple.”

Climate Solution: A Revealing Documentary by United in Heart, Part 1 of 4

United in Heart is a non-profit organization co-founded in 2018 by Mr. Arvin Paranjpe and his wife, Mrs. Nandhini Paranjpe. The group’s mission is to use scientific studies conducted by renowned climate scientists to quickly enhance global awareness about the urgency of climate change, and to share the quickest, most efficient ways to address the issue. “Now to a dire warning about climate change. According to a new report, experts say that we have until 2030 to avoid catastrophe. It also says if unprecedented changes are not made and made soon, there will be irreversible damage to the planet.” “So, let me just give you a little background on the problem. What is permafrost? Permafrost is ground that's been frozen for a long time. The name implies, suggests, permanently frozen. If only it were. 24% of the northern hemisphere land area is permafrost. We think that in that permafrost there is about 1,500 gigatons of carbon, and for context that's about twice what's in the atmosphere now.” “Most people are unaware that global warming may ignite the ice carbon bomb. Fifteen hundred gigatons of carbon is frozen in Arctic land masses. There's even more in the ocean. This is why plus 1.5 degrees Celsius keeps climate scientists up at night. And the more carbon dioxide emissions, the warmer it will get.” “An IPCC report indicates that 35% of the usable land area of the planet is used to just graze animals. On average we feed our animals 40 pounds (18 kg) of food for one pound (0.45 kg) of meat. And the animals consume almost 50% of the grain on Earth. So, if the world goes vegan, food is plentiful and land is plentiful.” Thank you, United in Heart, for sharing such important information at the most critical time in our planet’s existence. We hope more world leaders and citizens will heed this urgent call to heal our already burdened atmosphere and eradicate the climate crisis by choosing the only certain and viable solution, the vegan lifestyle.

Where Does Supreme Master Ching Hai Live? Part 2 of 6

Today, we’ll visit more of Her early homes in Taiwan, also known as Formosa. After being invited to give lectures throughout Taiwan (Formosa), Supreme Master Ching Hai sometimes traveled to Pingtung, staying in Hao Cha Village. There, Master stayed in a tent and cave, imparting to initiates Her extensive knowledge of living in the wilderness. At the Laiyi Center, Supreme Master Ching Hai lived in a small cabin that was expanded and had a terrace added after Master left. The size of the whole house is only 7.4 by 9.6 meters. In Miaoli, perhaps the living quarters that Supreme Master Ching Hai likes the most is Her cave, two by two-two meters by two meters. Supreme Master Ching Hai often reminds us about the benefits of a modest lifestyle, and how residing in a small house is one of the best ways to simplify our lives….

Dr. Peter Carter (vegan): There IS a Solution to Climate Change, Part 1 of 2

Peter Carter, MD, has been involved in climate change research for several decades. In 1993 he founded the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment and in 2009 the Climate Emergency Institute. Dr. Carter is an expert reviewer for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and the co-author of “Unprecedented Crime: Climate Science Denial and Game Changers for Survival.” A highly renowned speaker, he has given presentations at scientific and climate change conferences around the world. On today’s program we present excerpts from an interview with Dr. Peter Carter conducted in November 2020 by Roger Hallam, co-founder of UK-based global environmental movement Extinction Rebellion. “Recent research just published a couple of weeks ago (shows) atmospheric carbon dioxide is now the highest in 23 million years. That's insane. That's absolute climate crazy. We are increasing the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere faster than (at any time) in the past 40 million years.”“The NOAA (US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) publishes an Arctic ‘report card’ every year. In 2016 they said, with a long chapter with great illustrations, that the Arctic permafrost, warming, thawing, and emitting, had switched the Arctic from a carbon sink to a carbon source. So, this is Earth catastrophe news. This is Earth catastrophe, actual, not modeling, actual scientific findings today.”To halt potentially devastating effects, Dr. Carter recommends that greenhouse gas emissions be reduced to zero as quickly as possible. “This is not only the only right target, it's the only target which gives us a chance, a fighting chance, the only target which gives our children hope. It's a must that the whole world aims for this target, and in a united and pretty aggressive way.” Scientific evidence shows that raising livestock causes more global warming than all forms of transportation combined. Supreme Master Ching Hai frequently reminds us that the fastest, most effective solution to climate change is widespread adoption of the organic vegan lifestyle.

Eco-friendly Inventions

The UK company, Skipping Rocks Lab, based in London, has developed a packaging alternative for drinking water and other beverages that eliminates the need for plastics. The process encapsulates drinking water in a flexible membrane or blob made of brown seaweed that is completely biodegradable, edible, and vegan. Besides eco-friendly inventions that reduce waste on land, brilliant inventions have been created to remove trash from bodies of water. Mr. Trash Wheel is a trash interceptor invented by Mr. John Kellett in 2008 that removes trash from the Jones Falls River at Inner Harbor in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. The waste collected is recycled or goes to waste-to-energy facilities.

Dr. Peter Carter (vegan): There IS a Solution to Climate Change, Part 2 of 2

In today’s program Dr. Carter speaks about a dangerous feedback loop produced by climate change: the ever-increasing number of wildfires occurring around the world. “I was absolutely shocked to my core. Because just earlier this month, we had more fires in the Amazon than I've ever seen, like, way, way, way more. And this is early in the Amazon fire season. These fires produce massive amounts of carbon dioxide, but also a lot of methane. And also, of course, black carbon soot going up in the air.”Dr. Carter warns that Earth’s situation has reached an absolutely critical level, and that we must take immediate steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. “If we continue to emit, there's no question, no question about what's going to happen. The Earth is going to become an intolerable place to live in, with intolerable heat waves. But those heat waves won't just be intolerable; they will trash our crops.”“We're looking at billions of people not able to survive because of starvation, water deprivation. And then of course, you pile on the diseases. For many, many, many years, the infectious disease experts, we’ve just had an experience of it with COVID-19, have warned us that all of the infectious and communicable diseases are going to be increased by putting up the global temperature. And lots of floods. It's a suicidal recipe.”Scientific evidence shows that the number one cause of global warming is raising livestock, which creates more greenhouse gases than all forms of transportation and the burning of fossil fuels combined. Thus, despite his grave concerns about climate change, Dr. Carter believes there is a simple, highly effective solution to the current crisis. “The most effective, definitely effective, immediately effective, readily doable action that everybody in the world can do is go vegan. In theory, we can all do that. If we do that, emissions drop immediately. And we know, and the research confirms that in all aspects, organic agriculture, mixed with hedgerows, woodlots, is the best form of agriculture.”

The Amazon Rainforest: The Lungs of Our Planet in Dire Straits!

The Amazon Rainforest, known throughout the world as the Lungs of our Planet, is in trouble. According to a study conducted by Brazil's National Institute for Space Research (INPE), the rainforest in Brazil released about 20% more carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere than it absorbed over the period from 2010-2019. How did this happen? “Like other tropical forests, the Amazon is threatened by climate change and deforestation. An area the size of Taiwan is lost every year, mainly due to the expansion of pastures for beef production.” The researchers also believe that climate change has interfered with the rainfall in Brazil. Now scientists and organizations are findings ways to restore the Amazon Forest. “The Amazon is very near the tipping point of savannization. We have to find a way to get deforestation and forest degradation to zero very soon, in a few years, and also to restore huge areas. This is our great challenge; we have to save the Amazon.” The root cause of the Amazon forest’s destruction is meat consumption. Supreme Master Ching Hai explained the impact of livestock raising on the Amazon and how to recover it in a media interview with Irish Journalist Dr. Ben Murnane. “Eighty percent of the Amazon’s deforested lands are converted to grazing pastures for cattle-people. Of the remaining deforested land, the majority is used for growing soy. Eighty-five percent of the world’s soy is fed to the cattle-people that will be slaughtered for human consumption. So, the Amazon’s destruction is clearly linked to meat production. The melting in Antarctica can also be directly related to livestock raising, again because the heat-trapping potential of methane being so much higher than CO2. In addition, 60% of the black carbon that was found accelerating the Antarctic melt was coming from the burning of rainforest for livestock raising. Everything points in the same direction; that is, meat diet. If we stop consuming animal-people products, much of this lethal source is eliminated and the heat it creates will also disappear. In fact, along with stopping meat consumption we all need to pray for forgiveness. This, too, is part of the Earth’s recovery, the awareness of the suffering caused by humanity and the true desire to reverse this action and to do good instead.”

The Devastating Chain Effect of Extreme Heatwaves, Part 1 of 2

The Devastating Chain Effect of Extreme Heatwaves, Part 1 of 2

Extreme heatwaves not only pose a threat to humanity, ecosystems, and the global economy, but also increase the risk of other types of disasters. Heat can exacerbate drought and water shortages that can destroy crops and lead to famine, while hot dry weather can create wildfire conditions. On today's program, we’ll look into the extreme heatwave events of 2021 and the connection between heatwaves and the triggering of many other disasters. Kathy Baughman McLeod, Sr. Vice President and Director of the Adrienne Arsht-Rockefeller Foundation Resilience Center, is leading the global call for the dangers of extreme heat to be properly recognized. She says, “Heat is a silent killer, it sneaks up on you.” It doesn’t have a season and it isn’t dramatic but it is quietly killing more people than any other climate phenomenon -- particularly in places that are not accustomed to such high temperatures. In addition, the brutal heatwave killed millions of mussel-people, clam-people, and other people of the marine kingdom. It was also responsible for the death of nearly all juvenile Chinook salmon-people in the Sacramento River, pushing the endangered people of the fish kingdom even closer to extinction, according to officials from the California Department of Wildlife. The extreme heat also fueled deadly wildfires and worsened the current drought conditions in the Western US. “Right now, part of seven southwestern states are experiencing what is known as exceptional drought, the most severe category of dry conditions. And in some of those same places, roughly 50 million people are about to endure temperatures well above 40 degrees Celsius.” Experts have suggested that people and authorities should be prepared and equipped to cope with extreme weather events like this. However, Supreme Master Ching Hai says that the best approach is to stop the global warming that causes climate change. “Too hot. And people will die too. People die, animal-people die – not to talk about anything else. And then diseases will spread because of the heat. When everything is so depleted like that, I don’t think it’s a very good idea. First, have to stop the animal-people industry to cool the planet and then for everything else we can have time to take care of.”
