So, we should know by this example that real practitioners, they don’t really depend on anything in this world to survive. They just do it for the sake of others, for the sake of the world. For whatever it is, it’s not for their own benefit.Who is this person over there? It should be me. Why is it him? Just joking. Doesn’t matter. I don’t have that much ego. Just joking with you. How’s everybody? (Good.) It isn’t very cold, is it? (No.) (We don’t feel cold as long as we have Master around.) (Master is so beautiful.) (We don’t feel cold with You around.) Thank you. Anybody wants to come up? Can. Hallo. Aulacese (Vietnamese) can come up. Don't have any? Then the back can come to the front, and can sit over there if you want. There are some places there, behind there, some places behind here. Everything good. Wonderful. Here. Closer. I’m acting like a commander. “Go there, here. Move there, here. Come, come. Go.” I said I am directing. Not a film director, but traffic director. Here, still some more places. Now! Up for sale. That one. Oh, some more places there. Come on. Never mind, whatever. It’s good. Translation begin. Nobody there. If you need, raise your hand quickly before it's out. It's very quickly out here. You need earphones, you raise your hand quickly. Raise and keep it there until you get it. There. OK. Very good. I am a good director. Why didn't I do some film directing stuff? Oh, I did some. One - “The King & Co.,” just for fun. OK? Yeah? Everybody happy? (Yes.) Sure. I can believe that. That I can believe. It's a good holiday. People cook for you, and people translate for you. Wow, what a life! I like it. Sit here, make me feel comfy. You have translation? Not yet? (Yes.) Good. Wonderful. What a nice day. For a change.Turn it around. It’s all the same. It’s the same. I don’t know why I have to wear all this. I have no idea why a nun wears all this. I complained to the one who drove me here. I said, “My life is so miserable. I might look pretty, but it’s actually so hard.” I have to wear everything. It’s very difficult to put this on. Sometimes I just can’t hook it up. I said sometimes this kind of thing looks beautiful, but I am alone. Nobody helps me. I don't have a husband, wives or kids to help me to hook it in, and sometimes it’s very difficult for me, one person, to do everything. Even the shoes, you have to hook it in. And the trousers, you have to hook it in and everything. As I told you last time, to be a man is a blessing, except the hormone stuff. Everything is good, to be a man. OK, I have to sit this way, otherwise, I always look at the women. I want to look at a new view for a change. Every day I look at myself already. New view! Good view! You don’t wait until the retreat to come? You’re coming now? You don’t wait until the retreat? It’s only a few more days, right? How many more days? Twenty days? Less, less. And you will see your old woman again, same old. So every day, now I’m getting older, I have to decorate a little bit, so that you can see a new view, new stuff. OK? Everybody ready? (Yes!) Good. Last time, where were we? Before I go on and on, and on with my calendar, we’d better look at this. (On a fast…) Fasting? Yes. He was on a fast. Yes. He looked for the princess. (Yes.) Is this correct? Ah, yes. Hallo, are you still there? (Yes.) We’re catching up.“Five months and twenty-five days had passed since Lord Mahavira had eaten anything.” So, “The twenty-sixth day of the sixth month dawned. It was past noon when Prabhu Vardhaman, wandering for alms, was approaching the house of merchant Dhanavah. An expectant crowd followed Him.” Everybody now followed Him everywhere. It’s like that because He hadn’t eaten anything, and people were curious to see whether or not He was going to eat today. Same when I was in New York in the temple, and I did not eat anything for a long time, the attendance of the temple increased. They came looking for me, asking questions and stuff like that. It was really a bother, but I had no choice to go anywhere at that time. I had no money, no place to go, and any place is the same. If you don’t eat anything, and you are in the public eye, they will come looking for you, just for your special diet, a no-food diet. That’s the problem. So, nevertheless, I survived, until the last minute, I could not bear anymore. I thought, this couldn’t be worse than eating. It could be worse than eating. People pay too much attention to you and for the wrong reason, so I started eating again. I told you already last week, right? (Yes.) Good. Oh, this is a new one. I don’t know how to handle the new thing. I just moved again, and everything is everywhere. And you know what women are like: we need this, we need that, we need everything. And all this kind of extra work makes me feel, “What for have I become a monk?” It went back to zero, worse than before. I thought I left just one husband, and now I have so many. I thought I left home, and look at how many relatives I have now, family members. So the big crowd, “expectant crowd” was following Him now, everywhere. It’s because five months plus, almost five months and a half, He hadn’t eaten anything. And people would of course, wonder whether He was still alive, or it was a ghost who ran around begging. In the world, people have concepts of what, and what, and what. Like if you don’t eat, you will die, for example like that. So they were also watching me like a hawk, when I was in the temple. Because the temple people came in and out all the time. And on Sunday, also gathering to pray and all that. If you are alone it’s not too bad. But like Lord Mahavira, He was also alone, but He needed to go out to beg for alms. Almost five months and a half He didn’t eat anything, so He was still walking around and still begging for alms. But He was still waiting for that precise princess who was still in shackles, who was holding horse food or something in front of her, but didn’t eat for three days, and was in rag clothes. So that’s the way it was arranged by maya, to make trouble for the Prince. But almost five months and a half, and He didn’t eat anything. Meaning He eats if He wants to. He doesn’t when He doesn’t want to. You see clearly? (Yes.) So good practitioners, they don’t really depend… He already had no clothes on. In the beginning of the story, we know already that they even took away His only one cloth to cover for decency, for human decency. They took it away from Him already. And now He had no food, He still stayed alive. So, He is a true practitioner. He could concentrate so much inside, so was oblivious to anything outside. So that means He could eat or not eat. But He chose not to eat. In such a dire situation, how could He find the princess, in rags even, and hadn’t eaten for many days, or three days, and then in a cage, and in front of a bowl of horse food or something, coarse food in front of her, and still did not eat? But it had to be like that, and He knew that. He saw that in His vision, so He had to wait until then to have something to eat. Meanwhile, He still survived, walking around, begging like everybody else. So, we should know by this example that real practitioners, they don’t really depend on anything in this world to survive. They just do it for the sake of others, for the sake of the world. For whatever it is, it’s not for their own benefit. So, the expectant crowd followed Him anywhere.“Chandana was sitting on the threshold of the cellar…” She wasn’t deep in the cellar anymore, but she sat on the threshold of the cellar, “…one foot inside and the other outside.” Just one foot dangling out, one foot inside. “In her hand was a basket and in the basket, stale pulse-bran.” You knew it last time, when I began the story. “When she looked at the shackles on her limbs, a broken dream emerged in her memory and she became lost.” She was kind of lost in her trance or dream, daydream. That could be like a vision. Since she was so pure and she hadn’t eaten, so probably she just became calm very quickly, and had a vision. “All of a sudden, she heard the sound of approaching footsteps…” Many footsteps of course, because it was not only the Master, it was the big crowd that followed Him. Very attractive. Anything new, anything strange is attractive to this human race on this planet. So now, she heard the footsteps. She was in her dreamy state, but then she heard many footsteps, “…and a murmur of the crowd.” Why do they murmur? I don’t understand. Probably it was still far away and they didn’t want to talk loud to disturb the Lord Mahavira, out of reverence, so they just talked in a murmuring fashion. Like, “OK, I tell you, don’t tell that one.” “OK, this and that one, don’t tell this one.” “This one, don’t tell that.”I thought I murmured before, but it became very loud. In the beginning, when I first came back to Taiwan (Formosa)… Today, the former two-time vice-president of Taiwan (Formosa) also came and paid a visit. And she said to me, she was very impressed when I came home, came to Taiwan (Formosa) in the beginning, and a big, huge 10,000 people went to the airport and carried this kind of high sedan chair. And carried it on their shoulders, and put me on it, to welcome me home. So, that is the thing. I told just one person, my attendant or somebody, I can’t remember, to book my ticket for me. And I said, “Don’t tell anybody,” of course. Well, I forgot, or maybe I didn’t tell, or maybe I forgot. And she told the other attendant. And the attendant has her best friend, and the best friend has a boyfriend, boyfriend has mama, mama has papa, papa has co-workers and whomever; the disciples, they all went to the airport. And I became a sudden star, an airport star. So I told her that was at the beginning. Even sometimes, I said, “I’m thinking of going to Japan.” I didn’t even book a ticket. I didn’t plan anything yet, everybody knew Master was going to Japan and Japanese disciples prepared everything already. Oh God! So, I say that’s why I don’t tell anybody anymore. I even go everywhere alone now, with my own suitcase, pack my own things and book tickets at the airport. I don’t book tickets at home. I don’t ask. I don’t know how to book online.

Because building something big is disturbing the earth a lot and sacrifices many trees and plants and insects, and maybe birds or squirrels, their area. They’ve been living in there. And you never know when they have their nests or something, and babies just born, or their eggs. It’s not a very nice thing for them. There was a former vice president of Taiwan (Formosa), she came to visit me again just a few days ago. No, last week. I think it was Saturday last week. And then we talked and then she told me many things and I told her things. And she said people should do this, do that. Other organizations, they’re planning to build this, build that, like temple stuff. I said, “We don’t build anything anymore. These things already exist, so we use them.” Because building something big is disturbing the earth a lot and sacrifices many trees and plants and insects, and maybe birds or squirrels, their area. They’ve been living in there. And you never know when they have their nests or something, and babies just born, or their eggs. It’s not a very nice thing for them. I don’t really like building anything. It costs too much manpower, time, finance, and the earth. It costs something to the environment. I don’t always feel very comfortable building anything. That’s why whenever I find a cave or whatever’s simple, I like to stay there. I feel happier that way, that I don’t disturb anyone at all. But your brothers and sisters tell me, “It’s the twenty-first century already. You don’t have to live in a cave anymore, Master.” I said, “Why? I’m a cavewoman. Everybody knows that since a long time already. I got used to it.” But there’s a cave here. It has already served its time. It’s getting dangerous now to stay there, so they dug me out. But still, I don’t really feel like moving, but I don’t want everyone to get worried about my safety. So, it’s sensible to move out. Twenty-first century. We had 20 many centuries, not just 21. Twenty-one is counted since the Lord Jesus Christ only. Before that, we existed a long, long, long time. Many civilizations came and went. Many Masters came and went, either anonymously or recorded in history. So many. In the beginning, we came here from the Brahman Heavens. That was the beginning of humankind. We could fly. We had magical power. We could communicate telepathically without ears. We could see thousands of miles away. And then we began to taste this and that. And then we ate more solid food, and then we became more solid. That’s why we cannot fly. And then we even began to eat raw meat, kill other beings, lesser beings, to eat. And then, after that, we discovered fire and then we ate more because it maybe tasted better. And then we discovered other plants, combined with the meat, and so on and so forth. And then our body became coarser and coarser, and heavier and heavier, and our mind also became clouded. Our soul, because it’s connected with the mind and the body, also felt dragged down. And that’s the result of us: the way we look, the way we behave right now. And then, because we liked to eat more and more, we began to fight with each other for food. And then we needed houses because the body became weaker. The immune system – used to be more refined, more holy, more wholesome – became weaker and weaker with each generation, with each day that passed, because we ate too many different things and animals and stuff. And then we had to fight with each other for survival. And then we needed governments to regulate the laws that make the rules. And then we needed the police to keep the rules. And then the ones who don’t understand the rules are thrown in prison and get angry, come out and revolt, etc. And the more and more karma all the time. So, even now after initiation, we still have the karma. Even though the maya’s gone, the karma is already there, it cannot disentangle from the body because it’s like tearing your flesh. To squeeze out the blood or try to squeeze out the blood out of your flesh, something like that. It would be horribly painful. Physically speaking or even spiritually speaking, it’s impossible. You can stretch out, baby. Stretch it out or I’ll show you how. I cannot. Stretch it out. What is it? (From Your attendant.) Oh, let me think. I’ll give him the key. I forgot. I forgot that they came back, so we locked the house. Can you please give it to him, to the person who gave you the note? (OK.) Thank you. Tell him, “Not one key missing.” Just joking. I can trust them. If they’d like to take my dress, then I will have an excuse not to wear it anymore. It would be nice. That’s the only valuable thing there. I don’t think they want to. And then they will talk like the sisters.Sometimes they come to my house, they help me to clean the house when I don’t have a lot of time, or when I need the muscle to move some furniture. And then they wear the gown and the gloves and all that, and the hats, you know, those kind of hats for cooking, so the hair doesn’t fall out. And they also wear special shoes to come in the house, so I don’t have to clean again. And they wear gloves, so I don’t have to smell their sweat. There are two different people; they smell different. One person is already unbearable. Men, they smell stronger than women. I don’t know why. What’s wrong? What did you eat? What did you guys eat? (They sweat.) They sweat? You don’t sweat? Sure, they work harder than women. Breadwinner and stuff. And then we criticize, like I did last week. I said, “The smell put me off.” But they have to sweat, they work harder. And don’t ever try to smell their socks. You will faint. Normally, [when] they come to my house, they wear slippers to come in but their socks are still on. And then even if they work right at the entrance, I still smell it. I said, “Did you change your socks today?” He said, “Oh, sorry, Master. No time. Urgent to come here. Can You smell from there, Master?” I said, “Of course!” Why do you think I live alone? Single still. They sweat so easily. So, they wear the gown, like overalls, so they don’t lean on my sofa or whatever, or their socks might touch something. Sometimes they forgot to bring their slippers, so I said, “OK, never mind. Just go in with socks. Don’t go in with the dirty shoes, then it’s OK.” Because the shoes are sometimes muddy. They go to the public toilet and stuff like that. So they went in with their socks. Three days after, I still smelled it! If I have no time to clean, then I smell it for three days. It’s not so strong but it’s there, and I know it is because it’s not mine. Anyway, last week I was just being a little bit bad joker. Forgive me, guys?I do love you. Love and like are different things. So, I cannot just love and like at the same time. Or sometimes I can like but not love. Very difficult to love and like together. I don’t know why. Don’t ask me. That’s why I was wondering how you stay married so long. I really admire you so much. I really, truly mean it. I really mean it. (Karma.) Karma. Yeah. Possible. And not just those who stay because of children or because of together banking account or mortgage the same house or it’s a pity to leave this fancy car. It’s not that, but those who love, really love, love, love, love so much. And then one time, one of your brothers asked me, “Master, You still feel like You love somebody?” I said, “What? I don’t know what love is.” Really, I really don’t. The way he asked about love, I don’t know that love anymore.I love everyone, everything, every being, but I don’t know that kind of love. That’s very narrow, actually. The moment you say you love somebody and he loves you back, it begins creeping in, this possessiveness and anxiety and jealousy. “Does he really love me? He loves me. He loves me not.” “She loves me. She loves me not. Don’t know. Not sure.” “Why is he coming home late today? He loves me. He goes out. He goes with somebody. He doesn’t go with somebody. He sits somewhere in the coffee [shop] alone, maybe because we fought last night. Oh, man!” No end. There is no end to all these stories. It begins like that, even if you don’t want to. Even the most loving couple, sometimes it’s creeping in your mind, just to make trouble. The mind makes trouble. And woe to the man if he just side looks at another woman. Even if she’s not pretty, you think she is. That is the problem. And even if another man doesn’t look all that attractive, but the husband thinks, “Why is she looking at him? Or she just pretends to look in that direction, but she’s looking at him, isn’t she?” And you think he is attractive. In your mind, he is. Maybe she doesn’t care. Many times, I talked to people outside, the married couples; they really value each other. Not that everybody just goes out and are always sidetracked, and looking at other women, or desiring the other person. It’s not really like that. They really like and love each other, and it’s a happy thing. It’s a very good thing. In this life, it’s very lonely. If you don’t have some good neighbors with you, or friends who come and go in your house, you will feel very lonely to stay in a flat all by yourself. And then you come out, and then somebody begins talking to you, and then you feel like, “Oh, this person may be my company, my life companion.” Stuff like that. The mind keeps saying things. So, I know why on Sundays you come here. Maybe nobody comes and talks to you. No need, right? Now you have a lot of friends. So, come back to the story. And after we became heavier and heavier, our minds became duller and duller, and all the senses became more real, more real and then they began to control us. Like, the nose loves to smell something pleasant; the mouth wants to eat something nice. The more you eat, the more you want, and then slowly, slowly, we eat a lot. And then we know much less than we did before. And we have less capability than we did before. I mean, real capability. Before, whatever we wanted, we just wanted it, it would come. And now, we can pray, and we can work hard for two, three years, then we can get what we want, with a mortgage even. Thank you so much! And then work hard again to pay interest. And if you lose your job, yeah, yeah, you know. In some countries, you could become homeless just like that, overnight. And you lose your house, you lose everything because everything is on loan, or at least half loan, not paid completely. When I was in America, I saw many people, they advertised in the newspaper or something, “Please come take my house if you can afford to pay so-much, so-much per month. Please come, it’s free for you. Just continue to pay, I cannot afford.” Is that true? Right, brothers? (Yes.) I felt so sour in my heart. My God, they worked so hard. They paid halfway or two-thirds already, but if they could not continue, then the bank took over or whomever. I thought, my God, it should not happen like this, especially in America! We, in many countries, have the idea that America is a very rich country, very secure for everyone, but it isn’t always like that. When it comes to recession time, they call it or something like that, people just lose jobs, and they don’t have enough money even to take care of any other things, except for themselves. And the whole family sometimes moves to some charitable shelter or something. And once you’ve lost the job, once you’ve lost your house, you have no address. You cannot go find a job if you don’t have a mailing address. One thing leads to another.

I said we have to make an excuse to go back to Taipei. One by one, we make friends with all these new people. Because the outsiders also, they are so very friendly but business-friendly. Also, they are happy that we are vegan also, ideal for them. They love the same ideal people, so they serve us, wow, special. Everything is so good, so good.I can’t stand the cold so I brought extra. But now there seems no need. It’s hot. We can have air con again! (Yeah!) I can talk again! Private stuff. Nowadays, it’s so convenient. OK, we meditate, and then at four o’clock, we go eat; and then at five o’clock, we go home; and at six o’clock, I go do my work. Is the food OK, guys? (Yes.) Now and then. Now and then is OK. At home, you eat better, for sure; don’t care. (Yes.) Now and then is OK. I have to eat that every day, so you cannot complain. You eat only once in a while. You come see Master for two days, three days. Even if it’s no good, you don’t complain. (Yes.) Because if you complain, I would think I should also. I’ll write a letter: “Every day, same food, my God! Every day similar food.” In…they cook better, more variety. Sometimes they have Spanish food; sometimes they have vegan curry, real Indian curry, cook vegan samosas. Sometimes we have vegan spring rolls, Aulacese (Vietnamese), real. Sometimes we have real this, real that. Sometimes we have real vegan sandwiches, do-it-yourself. (You make us hungry.) You’re hungry now? (After You describe it so good.) Oh, yeah? I am very good at describing. (Yes, yes.) That’s the only thing I’m good at, especially when I don’t have them. I do it especially, so that they feel bad that they don’t give me anything. When I was in Taipei… You know Taipei is a very good city for vegan food. I went to Taipei one time, for some reason, I forgot; of course, I go here and there sometimes. Ah, yeah. I know what. I went to the mountain to do a retreat. And then after the retreat, I said, “Oh, I feel like eating something. I don’t feel like going home, eating the same stuff yet, so let’s go treat ourselves to something. Look on the internet to see where, what. OK?” And then we went. They said nearby, otherwise, we’d have to take too long to drive. Nearby, there’s an Aulacese (Vietnamese) restaurant – not our disciples, not our initiates who made it, outside people. It was so good, so good! Even just a simple (vegan) noodle tasted so good. And that (vegan) sandwich they made, Aulacese (Vietnamese) Aulacese (Vietnamese) (vegan) bread, oh, my God, a long time, I didn’t have. Long time, I don’t know how many years or decades or centuries since I’d had this good food. So, I ate, ate, ate. And one of the drivers, he is specialized in eating. Whatever you put in front of him, no matter how much, he would finish it all for you. So, I said, “Wow! We should do this every day.” The way he ate made me hungry, eat more, enjoy. And I said, “I feel sorry for myself. Now we’ll go home and eat the same stuff again, almost the same every day.” Because they buy in a chunk. They buy big, so that it’s cheaper. So, they probably buy 100 watermelons, so we have to eat that for one month, for example. Cheaper, you know? Wholesale. Or 2000 kilograms of potatoes, then we have to eat that for another two months. It’s cheap. At least it’s clean water over there. And they buy big chunk, big boxes of cabbages, and then we have to demolish it in two, three months, or maybe one month minimum. And so on and so forth. So, I don’t even need to have magic power or go to the kitchen to check. I know what’s going to be on my table tonight. So, I said, “No, let’s go eat something good.” So, we went to eat that Aulacese (Vietnamese) food. So good, so good. And I said, “Is there some other food like this, similar foreigner food?” They said, “Oh, many, Master. We have even Mexican vegan.” Oh, to the “Mexi-mum.” “Mexi-mum” tortillas, “Mexi-mum” what? Tell me. ((Vegan) Tamales.) (Vegan) burrito in “Mexi-mal.” And then they even have an Italian restaurant, and Thai vegan, and Italian vegan, Mexican vegan. I said, “Wow! What am I doing in the New Land? These are all my faves!” Indian vegan and Mexican – oh, these are all my faves, all this lifetime, years. The problem is I have been around. I’ve traveled a lot before, even during marriage time, so I have tasted all kinds of good food. And now… stuck here.I really felt sorry for myself that day. I said we have to make an excuse to go back to Taipei. One by one, we make friends with all these new people. Because the outsiders also, they are so very friendly but business-friendly. Also, they are happy that we are vegan also, ideal for them. They love the same ideal people, so they serve us, wow, special. Everything is so good, so good. Because they know we are vegan. We said, “We are vegan, so make sure everything is vegan.” “Yeah, we have only vegan here.” Wonderful. No need to worry. The attendant brings food for me every day. Normally, they put it out there and then whenever I feel the time, I come out and get it and bring it to my table. So yesterday, I said, “I am sure it’s the same again like yesterday, right?” He said, “More or less, Master. Except the potato is boiled instead of fried,” or whatever, instead of boiled. Boiled whole instead of boil chopped. I said to him, “Hey, you think you miss …food or not? It’s better than here, right?” He said, “Yeah, yeah. A little bit more variety.” I said, “If you miss the food, you go, man. Go there to eat.” He said, “No, Master. It’s OK. You are here, I am here. I won’t go just for food.” I said, “Really? Wow, that’s touchy-feely. Oh, good, good, good.” I said, “Yeah, of course, if I can eat, you can, right?” He said, “OK, no problem.” He said, “Oh, for me, no problem.” For him. He said, “It doesn’t matter.” Meaning, it doesn’t matter, it’s equal to him. I don’t think he tells 100% truth, but it’s OK. He didn’t want to make me feel bad. I think I should move to Taipei. Why should I stay here? I can move all of you also. We’ll rent a hotel or something. You pay, I eat. (I invite You!) Yeah! (OK!) We are not many. We are about 100 people sometimes. We can book one whole hotel all year round. And today we go to Indian, tomorrow we go to Mexican, next day Italian, and the other day Aulacese (Vietnamese), and the other – Korean even! They have Korean vegan. Oh, all kinds! And other days, Sunday we go – we go where? Thai vegan. Wow! You’re right, I am hungry too. (Then You’ll make me into the real Happy Buddha.) It has an effect, I am telling you. You are happy already, no need to make exaggeration. We’re happy to see you like that already. No need to please us any further. We wish you to develop but not exaggerate, because then we have to carry you. We have to wheel you in the hall. We have some wheelchairs. Can do. I wheel my food because they put it on the tray, and then I put it on the wheeling table, because I cannot carry all that. Actually, they give a lot; the portion is a lot. Just that this is for a public kitchen. I sometimes cannot eat, so I return almost the same. I do think of these Aulacese (Vietnamese), and Mexican, and Korean, and Italian, and whatnot. What else? Thai and Indian. Oh, all kinds of my favorites! My God!The lucky Taipei people. And even then, not all of them are vegetarian or vegan. Shame! Don’t you think so? (Yes.) Shame on you, Taipei people. You should be vegan. It’s so convenient! I wish I could exchange places with them. Then I do nothing ‒ don’t have to be Master, don’t have to sit here, drooling about all kinds of food. Of course, they have Chinese vegan restaurants also. And to eat outside in an ordinary restaurant is a treat, I’m telling you.I don’t go to Loving Hut so often. Only once every two years, maybe. And (only) if I have to. Because if I go there, it’s work. It’s work to go to Loving Hut restaurants, my own Loving Hut restaurant to eat. I could even get overly praised, overly kneeled on the floor, and just making people look at me like weird stuff. “Why is She making people kneel?” I don’t make anybody kneel. They come, “Oh, Master!” Just come out of the kitchen, “Oh, Master!” and then on the floor. I feel sorry for the floor. Just drop like that, so heavy. One-hundred-pound person drops like that, or more even, sometimes 200 pounds, depends. Happy Buddhas. Happy lady Buddhas. And, OK, that’s not all. Everybody comes to put their head over my (vegan) soup. On my table, my food is here, “Master, bless me! Please!” Surely my soup won’t taste the same. Now you laugh? Why did it take so long? Translation. Wait until the Korean and Aulacese (Vietnamese) laugh, then we’re finished. You’ve finished laughing? There is more to come, but I forgot. They treat you equally. They don’t come and make trouble. Some know it, but they just say, and then I know. Then I don’t say anything. I pretend they don’t know, and they pretend they don’t know me, until I pay. After I pay, they say, “Where do You live?” “Are You the...?” I say, “Look the same, look similar, right?” They say, “You are not?” If I say I am, they don’t believe it. “You? Really? You? Yourself? It’s You? Your very self?” I say, “Yeah. You asked me, so I have to say the truth.” “Oh! Photograph, please!” And then the whole restaurant comes out. Well, at least they wait until I’ve enjoyed my dinner, and don’t put their head over my soup, or my salad, or whatnot. Sometimes they don’t know until the end. Somehow, they find out. When I come to pay and then they look close up. “Huh? Uh… Eeh…” So funny. Couldn’t speak, just, “Ah... eh... em... ah… You are Supreme Master Ching Hai, right? A vegetarian, right?”First, they say, “You are vegetarian, right? You’re vegan, right?” And I say, “Yes.” “Ah, yes, I know. You, Supreme Master Ching Hai, right? Yes or no?” And then if I… I cannot say no, and I say, “Yes,” and then they ask again and again and again. “Really? It’s You? Yourself? Supreme Master Ching Hai self?” So I say to the assistant, “Tell her.” I’m embarrassed, man. I cannot just say, “Here! Me! Gorilla coming.” Keep asking ten times, I’m embarrassed. Everybody is looking and listening now. The whole restaurant knows. Before, they didn’t notice; they kept eating their own noodles, minding their own salad. Until they all make a big deal and take photos and whatnot, and then the whole restaurant begins.

The Best Thing Is Enlightenment, Part 4 of 6

00:31:54

The Best Thing Is Enlightenment, Part 4 of 6

That’s why we should be honest with ourselves. Not the outer precepts, and not the outer veganism, but it must be the inner commitment, the inner devotion to the noble ideal, that we believe and that we follow. So, even though I don’t know that I am pure, I am good, well, at least other people know. At least I don’t have any bad quality to offer. I only have good quality to offer. Even if I don’t know, other people know, and they feel comfortable about my quality. And that is already something. That’s already helping the people. Maybe I know, but I don’t really know. Because I don’t think I know. I’m just trying to do the thing that I teach you. So, I think it is not bad. So, do not ever think that nobody knows what we’re doing. That is the most important message I want to tell you. People will smell it. They will sense it. They will recognize it. They will just feel it. And sometimes they will see it in a vision. This afternoon one of our attendants from Taiwan (Formosa), he told me that there are other people, practitioners of a different school in Taiwan (Formosa). And these people, some of them are very developed. The soul, the inner wisdom. One day, they were talking together. Our assistant and the other practitioner. And the other practitioner kind of complained to our assistant while talking. He said, “Oh, what’s the matter with you, your group? Your disciples, men, many men just stick around Her. What is the matter with you? Is anything going on there? Something bad going on?” And then the assistant said, “No, no, no! You look inside, you look more, and then you’ll see nothing there.” So, the person meditated and looked and looked, searched, did some research inside. And then later he said, “Oh, really no. I’m sorry, (there’s) really nothing. It’s just the love between the Master and disciples.” So, you see, people do know. That’s why we should be honest with ourselves. Not the outer precepts, and not the outer veganism, but it must be the inner commitment, the inner devotion to the noble ideal, that we believe and that we follow.During my journeys here and there, I always encounter different people. And some people are really, extremely arrogant. They think they know everything. They talk about the precepts, they talk about Zen, they talk about Buddhism, talk about Catholicism, they talk about God, and blah, blah all the time. They always talk and talk. But they never practice one millimeter of what they’re always advocating. I think you encounter these people also, often. Is that right? (Yes.) Yes. And they make you tired, no? And then you say, “The sooner the better, you (I) escape.” That’s right. So, the more we practice together in our group, the more we can recognize these empty people. Empty. They just talk, but everything is empty with them. And then we are tired of them, too. And these people are very difficult to convince. The more they know, the harder it is for you to tell them that they don’t know. They think they know everything already. They know too much! And they have nothing. No space in their head for you to give something precious. All full of garbage. You know already. So, the more we practice, the lazier we become. We don’t want to talk anymore. And whoever knows, will know. Whoever knows, will know. If they don’t know, forget it. We have no more enthusiasm to come and catch people, or try to convert people, and try to make them become good, and try to make them become God. It’s kind of, worn out with time. The enthusiasm wears out with time. That’s why many of the Masters of old times, They did not travel around. They did not try to convert anyone. And then, just slowly, people knew and came to Them. Maybe in the beginning, the Masters probably still had energy and enthusiasm and listened to the invitations of the people and went here and there. But later on, I think They had no more wish to go anywhere and to convert people. That’s why sometimes you keep asking me, “Master, why don’t You go to Holland, and go to Poland, and go to ‘Anyland?’ They have people there, (who) need You, waiting for You.” And all that kind of thing. But I say, “Wait, wait. Please wait.” Because it’s not the way you think. People are not what you think. Because you know the good thing, so you think everybody should know, everybody must know, and everybody will know immediately. But (it’s) not always the case. And even in the case of the people who know, they don’t change the way they live. They don’t want to change. For example, I just told you about many people who tell me that they know me. Even though, no introduction, nothing. And it’s the first time they even see me on this planet. But still, that doesn’t mean they will follow us and then do the same way. They will continue with their whatever, magical pursuit, and will not necessarily come with us. Especially magical power, (it) attracts a lot of people. There are two kinds of people who know too much. One is intellectual knowledge of books. And another one is so-called inner knowledge of magical power. These two people are very, very, very, very… difficult to be convinced about the true way of God. Very, very, very, very. And in my life, as well as in your life, you have of course, encountered these two all the time. So, don’t be surprised. That you have wasted all your mouth-water and nobody listens, nobody follows you. But still, we try our best. And whoever still has ears will listen, and then we try to help them. But I cannot do that every day. That’s why you keep asking me, “Why is it so long since You have gone there, You have not made a lecture?” Again and again. The flowers take some time to blossom again. Especially rare flowers. Cannot do it every day. Or a diamond: it takes thousands of years in order to harness itself into the best quality, the brilliant quality that we finally decorate our precious bodies with. Otherwise, before, it’s black, just like coal. Yeah, or anything else. Yes, but not diamonds. So, it’s the same with us. It takes time to harness our own power and divinity, in order to recognize and to offer the best to the world and to ourselves. At least. It’s not a question of me not wanting to give a lecture or things like that, but it’s also the question of the people. Good things, not everybody wants to have. Lately in Africa there was a person, he is a prince. He wanted initiation so much. He kept like, almost forcing me to give him initiation. And during initiation he lay like this, he slept. Other people were not very enthusiastic, but they all sat erect and correct and quiet and meditated. And all the time, the one who was most enthusiastic and forceful, just lay there and slept on his sofa. It takes time to change; not that he’s not good. He’s a very good person. It takes a long time to recover, to change. So, you see? It’s very, very difficult, if you want to convince somebody onto your path. But it’s more difficult to give initiation, and it’s more, more difficult for people to rest in the initiation and follow through with the practicing life. For him to stay. It’s like this, you see? So, don’t blame me, and don’t complain, and don’t tell me that I don’t have compassion, and I don’t have love. The people don’t want to take my compassion, don’t want to take my love, don’t want to take my patience, don’t want to take my best teaching, don’t want to take my precious thing that I want to offer to them. Including many people who know who I am, who know my inner spiritual power. It’s very difficult. But I’m still trying my best. Even if I don’t like to do it. So, if you want, you will become a Master. You go around. You teach people, you convince them. But I think you’re already doing well. All right, with this knowledge and frustration.I leave you. I’ll see you again in Germany. Next week. If you have time to come. That is weekend, right? Good, good. Most people can afford to come, right? If not, then I have already been with you many times. Four times. I think it should be enough to last you for a while. See you again. Means see you again. Right? See you again. (Yes.) Doesn’t mean goodbye. See you again, See you again. Mr, Mrs. You only want to see me because you like to eat vegan cakes. See you again. I think you’re happy with me, no? (Yes.) You’re happy with me, aren’t you? (Yes!) Very, very happy! You are very devoted.

She saw that Baba Sawan Singh took her to see God, on the throne of God. And she was crying, crying. She said, “I never imagined, I never… All my life, I never imagined that I could even go near the throne of God and speak to Hirm like that.” This temple is not… it doesn’t look like a normal Buddhist temple. It’s just a building, a part of a building attached to the whole long block, and it’s just one part of it. It’s been made into a temple. And the master at that time, he bought that temple just to teach the American disciples. Every three months, he went there. And his disciples, I count on my finger, maybe about 30, 40, a small temple. And they came every Sunday to listen to him and he made retreat with them sometimes. And the retreat had maybe 20 or 20-something people. So, it’s not like a temple that is famous. It doesn’t look like a temple outside. It’s just a normal apartment. It has two stories and a basement. The basement is a kitchen – cooking and eating community. And the first floor is for the Buddhas, the hall and meditation. The third floor is the living quarters. I had one small room in there. And the master lived in the front; I lived in the back. One room, separated by a corridor and an empty room. So, if I were to go outside, long distance, and came back and had not written the address of the temple, I would have gotten lost. But they found the temple all right, rang the bell. I was alone; the abbot, he came back and forth. He had a green card, came back and forth. So, anyway, they came in and told me. They [Truth-seekers] described what the inner guide told them about me, said I would give initiation, and you can have the (inner Heavenly) Sound, you can hear the ocean. So, I thought she cannot be lying. And I asked her if she knew anything about the (inner Heavenly) Light and (inner Heavenly) Sound Method, and about such and such teaching. At least similar teaching or something. Did she read anything? They said, “No. No idea. Just the guide told us to come here and You will give us the spiritual anointment, and then we will hear the ocean, even if we don’t have the ocean.” Something like that. So, I thought they cannot be lying. What for they lied to me? Because I did not plan to initiate anybody. I was just living in the temple, cleaning the bathroom and floor every day. And then so I said, “OK. But you have to be vegetarian.” They said, “Yes, we are already.” Because in their tradition also maybe like that. Oh, very sincere. Good experience. And then they kept coming to see me sometimes afterward, and then meditated with me or alone. I gave them the room that the abbot always reserved to see his disciples during the retreat. So, I said, “You stay down there, I stay in my room. Because I cannot give you the upstairs room.” Upstairs only one room for the master and the other room for meditation. Also, upstairs there is one meditation room for the disciples when they come. In the morning, they come meditate with him. Before that I was thinking they’re mistaken. I said, “If you are looking for the abbot, he is not here. You come back in two months; he will be back here. And his name is not Ching.” I told them. He’s a Buddhist monk. So, they said, “No, no. They said Master Ching.” I said, “Maybe Master Ji. Master Ji. He is a man.” Maybe “Ji” is Indian for great Master. People always say Guruji, Maharaji, or Mataji. Babuji, Babaji. Everything “ji” means great. “So, I think maybe that’s what your guide meant by Master Ji. But he is not here.”And then she said, “No, no. Because the guide said it’s a woman. And does the abbot teach the Ocean Method?” I said, “No, he doesn't know anything about the ocean stuff.” So she said, “Then it’s not. Do You know…” They asked me if I know anything about (inner Heavenly) Ocean Sound. I said, “I know some.” And they said, “That’s You then. It’s You. You’re a woman and You know about the Ocean Sound inside, so it’s not the abbot that we are looking for.” So, then I had to give them initiation. They came from a long way. And I gave them food to eat and extra. And they came back some other time. But they're afraid of ghosts. They’re supposed to be ghost busters. They are the kind of exorcist people. They can see ghosts all right. And then one day, they came to me, and they came up, “Can we sleep with You upstairs?” I said, “Small room. I’m not used to sleeping with other people. You have all the room downstairs. It’s more comfortable, and the bathroom, everything for you. Toilet so easy.” She said, “No, there are so many ghosts down there, about 300 at least, of them.” I said, “Well.” I said, “It’s a temple. Ghosts are also welcome.” It didn’t say outside that ghosts cannot come. I said, “Besides, the temples are feeding the ghosts every day also,” you know, symbolic with the mantra and then you multiply it. It’s just symbolic: throw a few drops of water and some little rice, and then you multiply it, and then the ghosts come and also listen to us chanting Buddhist sutras and liturgy. Something like that. Can you check on internet for me? Like feeding ghosts or praying to God before you eat? Long time I didn’t use that word. “So, that’s why this is their home. So, it’s natural that they stay here, but they will not harm you, I promise. Because look at me, and the abbot, and other people, they come and go. I stay here, nothing happened. Don’t worry. Besides, if the ghosts can be downstairs, they can also come upstairs, so what’s the difference?” I said, “The ghosts, they’re freer than us. They could zoop upstairs just like that, quicker than us going by stairs. So, if you come in here, what’s the difference?” So, she said, “No, no, it’s different. There’s no ghost here. They only stay downstairs. Here, You only have three, four Masters with You. And there is a Master with a big long beard. His name is Baba Sawan Singh. And other Masters…” She named all the Masters and all that. When I initiated her, she saw Baba Sawan Singh inside, and He told her His name and said that He and I are one. (Wow.) Baba Sawan Singh and I are one. Why? Why? No. I thought I told you that before? I didn’t? No? I did not? And I said, “How do you know the name Baba Sawan Singh?” She said, “He told me inside.” They are very sincere and very spiritually pure. And then I also said, “OK, if He said so, then it is so. The Master would not lie to you. For what reason?” The inner experience, and she saw that Baba Sawan Singh took her to see God, on the throne of God. And she was crying, crying. She said, “I never imagined, I never… All my life, I never imagined that I could even go near the throne of God and speak to Hirm like that.” At that time, it was not a very high God yet, at least within the Five Worlds, but still, she was crying, crying. Oh, she cried nonstop. I said, “Stop, otherwise you will dry out. I will not see you anymore. I’ll say, ‘Where is Azula? Where, where?’” So I gave her a drink and all that and OK. They all had good experiences inside at that time. And then they even came to Taiwan (Formosa) to see me. At that time, I lived in a jungle, a forest, Yangmingshan. We didn’t have a house or anything; we just had a tent. And somehow, they put some metal sheets together, making into a square little hut for me. I let her stay, and then she was afraid of ghosts again. I said, “You just imagine. You ask these nuns.” At that time, I had about, I don’t know, more than ten nuns and monks with me together. We shared clothes. We didn’t have enough money to buy clothes. I gave them my clothes. I kept only one for myself, because we didn’t have enough money to buy clothes, nun’s clothes, and then we were OK. We were OK anyway. We were happy. We didn’t have a lot of money, but we were happy.I think I grew some sprouts and vegetables to sell. Then we had a little money somehow. I can’t remember how we survived. And the nuns were still making some leaflets, like a weekly news – one paper, one piece of paper – to copy some of the talks I talked to them, and then they sent it all to whomever. So we had a big tent, about three, four meters long, and two meters wide. And she came, and I let her stay in the metal sheet hut already, and she was still scared of ghosts, coming to tell me, “Oh, so many ghosts here. How do You live here?” I said, “We live. They lived here before we came, so we should apologize to them, that they let us also stay.”Because that mountain is called Yangmingshan. It’s a national park. Except for those who already stay there – long, long, long ancestry left behind a house – then nobody can build any more houses. And it’s supposed to be a very haunted area. They made a lot of jokes about it. Like, sometimes some taxi drivers didn’t dare to take people to that area. Because when they paid the money, it was not real. When they came back, they realized it was ghost money. It was not real. It’s special. It’s a special type of ghost money.Don’t you know the story about Yangming Mountain? It’s real. Have you heard about it? Oh, yes. So, she is a witness. I’m not lying. I heard only, but I wasn’t sure. We lived there. Nobody, no ghosts ever dared come to us. We were just more vicious than ghosts or something. I said, “Don’t worry. We are initiated into the Quan Yin Method. No ghost can do anything to you. Besides, you are a ghost buster! You are a master of ghost busters. You do exorcisms! How are you afraid of ghosts? Then if your clients heard about this, how would they come to you again?” She said, “Oh, too many, too many, and big, big ghosts, big ghosts.” I said, “Big or small, they don’t do anything to us. We all live here together in harmony, because we do no harm to them, they do no harm to us.” She still tried to come to me all the time with the ghost stuff, so I gave her some fruits, whatever we had, and said, “This is good fruit. If the ghosts see it, they will not touch you. They will not go near.”No ghosts bothered us. They just let us see them. If we saw or not, we didn’t really care. The ghosts didn’t dare to appear in front of me and my nuns and monks at that time. Or maybe we were blind or deaf to the world. People say when you are deaf, you are not afraid of cannons or guns; you hear nothing! Because of that, we one time, made a very naughty joke. We said, “Don’t come home so late.” And then another, I said to the nuns and monks… Sometimes they had to go out to buy stuff, buy food or something.I don’t remember how we survived there. At least we had water. There’s a stream running around our tents. And the stream water was so beautiful, so crystal clear. And we survived because we had water there, so we didn’t care. We used to drink worse water than that; dirty water, when we had no place. We ran around on the street, any water we drank, and nothing happened. Truly, we are protected. Because some water was dirty, very dirty, but we just used our cloth, our monk’s robes or something to filter it and then cooked. But the water truly was very dirty, but sometimes we had nowhere else to go; we could not find anywhere else. We were on the street, and so we just drank anything, and no problem. Over there we just had that piece of land and the water was running all year around – small stream but running all the time, and beautiful, clear. First time we saw the clear stream that nobody tampered with and no contamination. Wow, we were so lucky and happy. We planned to stay there forever.(Master, is this the one?) No. Meng-shan means feeding… No... It means “thanking Buddhas and Bodhisattvas and feeding the ghosts,” etc. It’s different. It’s not the ordinary feeding. It’s not just feeding like this. It’s a religious ritual. You found it? (Liturgy. It says: Liturgy means customary public worship performed by a religious group.) “Customary public worship performed by a religious group,” that’s correct. Liturgy also. We praise God and we thank God for eating and for the food that we eat. That form of worship or praying is called “liturgy.” And also, in Buddhism, we also thank the Buddha and all that, and then we feed some to the ghosts. So, actually, the ghosts did come, 300 plus of them. So, we have a witness. Queen Azula saw it. I think she’s still alive in America. Long time no see. I keep changing areas, so I don’t think she can ever catch me anymore. What we did is not “Meng-shan,” which is making offerings. The morning and evening services that Buddhists do is called “liturgy,” which also exists in Catholicism.Liturgy. So, there’s a joke about the liturgy. There was a priest who went to Africa trying to spread the teachings of Jesus, but he had to go through a jungle. And he crossed a lion. The lion wanted to eat him. Definitely, he could not run. So, the priest knelt down and said some stuff. And the lion said, “What are you saying?” Because he said, “Let me do liturgy first before you eat me.” So, he knelt down and prayed to God and said “thank You” and all this and “save my soul” stuff. And then the lion also knelt. So, the priest said, “I’m kneeling to pray to God and to pray to save my soul and help me. What are you kneeling for?” The lion said, “Before eating, you have to make liturgy, no?” Before having a meal, he had to give thanks, do the liturgy. That’s how I remember the word “liturgy.” The pious lion.If I were to continue to be breatharian, I guess I could not do this job. It’s a different field. I’d probably have a better life. But I don’t think I can do much further work or enlarged work, like what I’m doing right now. But sometimes I say to myself, “You busybody! How can you do all this?” Even the Supreme Master Television is a big work for me already. How do I even have dogs? I have to put on makeup, wear clothes, design all types of things, and business. Business also gives me trouble sometimes: the staff, and the tax, and the accounting stuff. Sometimes I think, “Oh man. You are truly a busybody, aren’t you?” I talk to myself. I scold myself. I say, “You are the only one to be blamed. No God, no maya, no satan, no demon, no one. You, the only one.” Because one thing leads to another. If you have a business, you have to take care of this and that and that.If you give initiation, you have to go and see this and that people. You have to take care of them inside out. It’s not like you can come and sit here, and I feel nothing from you, I don’t feel any tug, any pull, any crying, all that stuff. Not like I give you initiation and then I don’t hear that you’re at home having trouble, tugging at Master’s photo, and want this, want that. It’s OK if you really need. But sometimes you don’t even need. You just ask for this and that to test the Master. These things won’t work. Do your homework. You pray to Master when you need, of course, but not always abusing our relationship. Not like you just get married and have a child and then no problem. No. Problem comes, with the marriage and with the child. You don’t know that until you’re in. Similar. Just one wife, one child, and one job, and one house, and you already have a lot of problems. I have many houses because, before, I kept running around and every country I bought this and bought that for Ashrams. And then later, it becomes too small and then I can’t even sell it. It takes some time. And before, I had nobody with me to help me, so I put it in my name, and now I have to go there to take care, because some countries don’t accept just an authorized letter or passport. You have to go in person in front of a notary or a lawyer, blah, blah, blah. No end to trouble. No end to trouble.

Buddhist Stories: The Land of Amitabha Buddha, Part 4 of 7

"The (inner Heavenly) Light of this Buddha is infinite, and shines on all lands throughout the universe without obstruction. Thus, this Buddha is called Amitabha," it means "Limitless Light," also meaning "Limitless life span," He lives forever. Amitabha Sutra. Amitabha, A-M-I-T-A-B-H-A, Ami-ta-bha. "Thus I have heard: Once, Buddha was in the land of Sravasti, in the garden of Jeta and Anathapindika. He was accompanied by 1,250 great Bhiksus, and all of them great Arhats, well known to the assembly. Among them were His leading disciples, such figures as the Elders Sariputra, Maudgalyayana, Mahakasyapa, Mahakatyayana, and Mahakausthila."Now you know why I can't remember the names. "Revata, Suddhipanthaka, Nanda, and then Ananda, Rahula," His son, His biological son. "Gavampati, Pindola Bharadvaja, Kalodayin, Mahakapphina, Vakkula, and Aniruddha, all great disciples. Also present were the Bodhisattvas Mahasattva, like Manjusri, Prince of the Dharma, wisdom, the Bodhisattva Ajita, the Invincible, and the Bodhisattva of Constant Progress, Gandhahastin, Nityodyukta, and other such great enlightened beings. Also present was Sakra, the king of the gods."He followed Buddha everywhere before He became Buddha, and now that the Buddha was there, he also came down. What are you doing here again? You want to make the Buddha suffer again? The king of the gods, Sakra, it may not be the same Sakra because even the king of gods, they change position. They die and somebody else takes their place. So the Kingdom of gods is sometimes up for grabs. If you're good enough, you just come up. Because the Sakra, maybe at that time his merits ran out, and then he had to go. And then the throne was empty. So whoever has enough merit just comes up, takes the place, so simple. "Sakra was there, the king of the gods, along with countless numbers of heavenly beings, making up a great assembly."I have to tell you that Sakra is the king of 33 Heavens only, the god of the gods of 33 Heavens in the Astral level. He's not the God of all the gods, like he's not the God Almighty and all that, so don't blame him for being so cruel and wicked, and testing the Buddha-to-be in such, many agonizing ways. He's not the Almighty God. He's not even the Second-level god. You never heard of him coming down and making trouble. And Brahma, you never see him making Buddha suffer. It's just the astral, similar to humans. If they're from the Astral Level, they do many naughty things, not very kind things, because they’re from the astral level or hell.“At that time, the Buddha said to the Elder Sariputra: ‘West of here, past a hundred-billion Buddha-lands, there exists a world called Ultimate Bliss. In this land, past a hundred-billion Buddha-lands, far away, there exists a Buddha called Amitabha who is expounding the Dharma right now.’ For His people in that land. Buddha said to Sariputra: ‘Why is this land called Ultimate Bliss? It is called Ultimate Bliss because the sentient beings in this land are free from the myriad sufferings, and only know every kind of joy. Furthermore, this land is called Ultimate Bliss because it is surrounded by seven rings of railings, and seven layers of nets, and seven rounds of trees, all made of the four precious jewels. Moreover, the Land of Ultimate Bliss has many jeweled ponds filled with the waters of eight virtues. The bottom of each of the ponds is pure golden sand, and the stepped walkways that lead up from all four sides of each of the ponds are made of gold, silver, lapis lazuli and crystal. Above the ponds there are many towers which are adorned with silver and gold and lapis lazuli and crystals, and mother of pearl and red agate. In the ponds there are lotus flowers as big as cart wheels: blue ones shining with blue light, yellow ones shining with yellow light, red ones shining with red light, and white ones shining with white light, each emitting a subtle pure fragrance. The Land of Ultimate Bliss is complete with all these merits and adornments. And there is more. Celestial music is constantly playing in this Buddha land, and the ground is made of gold. Flowers in the shape of heavenly orbs rain down at all hours of the day and night. Every morning the sentient beings of this land decorate their garments with multitudes of wondrous flowers.’” Ah, the flowers rain down so that they can decorate their garments."And make offerings to hundreds of billions of Buddhas in other worlds." So they take the flowers, they fly to billions of other Buddha-lands and make offerings. Can you imagine that? Without any airplanes, without a car, without pollution. Sounds similar to our land, except it's more wonderful and precious. "When it is mealtime, they return to their own lands, to eat and circumambulate the teaching assembly, all the Buddhas, the teachers. The Land of Ultimate Bliss is complete with all of these merits and adornments."In the Original Universe, we don't eat, we don't feel hungry. We have all kinds of fruits, all kinds of trees, all kinds of things, but nobody needs to eat anything. Too busy creating, enjoying, enjoying the creative power, and making things and then making it disappear or making it again, and blessing, enjoying also. And there is more still."The Land of Ultimate Bliss is complete with all of these merits and adornments." And there is more still. "In this land, there are birds of all sorts of wondrous variegated colors: white cranes, peacocks, orioles, myna birds, cuckoos. All these birds bring forth harmonious songs day and night. Their songs communicate such Buddhist teachings as the Five Roots, the Five Powers, the Seven Factors of Enlightenment, the Eightfold Path, as well as other teachings." Even birds, they're preaching in that land. "When the sentient beings in this land hear the voices of the birds, they are mindful of the Buddhas, mindful of the Dharma, and mindful of the sangha." The birds are reminding them.I’ll turn back this page here. "Do not think that these birds were born as birds due to karmic retribution or past misdeeds. Why not? Because in this Buddha land, the three evil planes of existence, as animals, hungry ghosts, and hell beings, do not exist. In this Buddha land, even the names of the evil planes of existence do not exist, much less the realities. All of these birds are the creations of Amitabha Buddha, fashioned in order to broadcast the sounds of the Dharma." Like radio, living radio, it's also a miracle."In this Buddha land, there is a slight breeze that stirs the rounds of jewel trees and jewel nets, so that they emit subtle wondrous sounds, like hundreds and thousands of melodies playing all at once. All those who hear these sounds spontaneously develop the intention to be mindful of the Buddha, the sangha and the Dharma. This Buddha land is complete with all of these merits and adornments. What do you think? Why is this Buddha called Amitabha? The (inner Heavenly) Light of this Buddha is infinite, and shines on all lands throughout the universe without obstruction. Thus, this Buddha is called Amitabha," it means "Limitless Light," also meaning "Limitless life span," He lives forever. Also, the lifespan… Now, look at that! "Also the lifespan of this Buddha and His people is an infinite number of immeasurable eons, and so He is called Amitabha." You live forever there. You’d like to go there? Can do, can do. "Amitabha Buddha attained enlightenment ten eons ago." That's not long. Normally, it's numerous asamkhyeya, eons and eons, eons. This is only ten eons, He's young! Young Buddha. "Moreover, this Buddha has innumerable disciples, all of whom are Arhats, and whose numbers are incalculable. Amitabha also has a following of innumerable Bodhisattvas."Crowded family. "The Land of Ultimate Bliss is complete with all of these merits and adornments. None of the sentient beings who are born in the Land of Ultimate Bliss ever fall back into a lower realm, meaning, they are avaivartika. Many among them have only one more lifetime to go, before enlightenment." So they're not complete, they're OK. Just that they're not like, enlightened. The Buddha just fetched them up, But it doesn't mean that they are enlightened, not very enlightened, perhaps not. Because they still eat. They adorn their garments with flowers and all that, sounds cute. As long as you can live forever and peacefully there, who cares? One more lifetime."These beings are very numerous, and their number is incalculable. When sentient beings hear of the Land of the Ultimate Bliss, they must take a vow to be born in this land. Why so? So that they can be together with all of these beings of superior goodness. One cannot be born in this land through minor good roots, or blessing, or virtues and causal connections." It means they have to be real good, real good. Passed all the exams, passed all the tests."If there are good men or good women who hear of Amitabha Buddha, and recite His name single-mindedly and without confusion, for one day or two days only, or three days or four days or five days or six days or seven days," from one day to seven days, then... "Then when these people are about to die, Amitabha Buddha and all the sages who are with Him will appear before them. When these people die, their minds will not fall into delusion, and they will attain rebirth in Amitabha Buddha's Land of Ultimate Bliss." If you don't like to study with me, there is a choice here. Backup, plan B. No problem! I'm not jealous. Otherwise, I wouldn't tell you. But you have to recite single-mindedly, not like you "Namo Amitabha, what?" "Amitabha who?" “Master, I concentrate…” "I have seen this benefit, and so I speak these words," it means Shakyamuni Buddha spoke these words truthfully."I have seen these benefits," He said, "so I speak these words. If sentient beings hear what I say, they must make a vow to be born in that land." He didn't even say, "Make me born into Shakyamuni Buddha Land." Maybe because Shakyamuni Buddha doesn't make a vow to take sentient beings up into His land, but Amitabha Buddha did, that's why. OK? And Shakyamuni, without jealousy, introduced His colleague. What I mean is the Buddha spoke the truth. That's why if you go to China or some Buddhist land or in Taiwan (Formosa) or in Âu Lạc (Vietnam), you heard people, they gather in the temple for one, or three-days or seven-days retreat, they just recite His name all day, and of course, meditate some also. But otherwise, they just recite His name. When I was younger, I sang this Amitabha Buddha song for you? Yes. At that time I could stretch my voice very long, remember? And very high. I cannot anymore. I can talk still, but I don't have such energy to sing like before, like at that time."Right now, I am extolling the benefits of the inconceivable merits of Amitabha Buddha. But in the eastern direction, there are also countless other Buddhas: the Akshobhya Buddha, and the Buddha Marks of the Polar Mountain, and the Buddha Great Polar Mountain, and the Buddha Light of the Polar Mountain, and the Buddha Wondrous Voice, etc. Each of them preaches in his own land with the eloquence of a Buddha, and covers a whole cosmos, speaking the Truth. All of you sentient beings should believe this scripture, extolling their inconceivable merits, and which all Buddhas protect and keep in mind." This secret, this merit, most Buddhas know about it and protect them.
