Buddhist Chant Remix with the Venerable Yogetsu Akasaka

Buddhist Chant Remix with the Venerable Yogetsu Akasaka

In Buddhist tradition, chanting often serves as a means to prepare one’s mind for holy communion, meditation, or for certain sacred rituals and ceremonies. In Japan, it is typically accompanied by three types of musical instruments: the mokugyo, the keisu and the taiko. Without using any of these traditional instruments, 37-year-old Japanese Zen Buddhist monk, the venerable Yogetsu Akasaka, is creating a sensation on social media. Only using his vocals and a loop station, his beatbox rendition of the Buddhist Heart Sutra chanting has gone viral and garnered over two and a half million views since May 2020. Donning his ceremonial Buddhist robe, the venerable Yogetsu Akasaka aims to help heal the world and spread the Buddhist Teachings through his unorthodox style of sutra chanting. Let’s now listen to a segment from the Day 69 livestream of the venerable Yogetsu Akasaka themed “Everything’s Getting Better.” In this performance, he played a handpan in addition to the usual beatboxing. The unconventional beatbox renditions of sutra chants allow the venerable Yogetsu Akasaka to introduce the spiritual Teachings of Buddhism to the younger generation. The richly layered sounds generated by looping his vocals create a peaceful ambiance, transporting listeners to a place of spiritual calmness, a much needed respite in our chaotic times. We will now share with you Day 70 of his livestream performances entitled, “Music for Meditation.” We thank the venerable Yogetsu Akasaka for his creativity and innovation in sharing spiritual Buddhist chants with the world. May your beautiful music continue to uplift and comfort people, in the Buddha’s loving embrace.

L’Écocirque: 100% Human Circus – Interview with André-Joseph Bouglione, Part 2 of 3

L’Écocirque: 100% Human Circus – Interview with André-Joseph Bouglione, Part 2 of 3

L’Écocirque: André-Joseph Bouglione is proud to present its first Holographic Animal. This bear is entirely digital; no animal was used for the realization of this hologram. 100% digital This polar bear, entirely digital, will perform on L’Écocirque’s stage and interact with the other artists, 100% Human. “Actually, for me the problem with abuse is that it does exist. But that’s not the point. No matter how serious the matter is, the real issue is the captivity and exploitation of endangered animals. Because otherwise, if we talk about abuse, we can say: ‘Well, my animals are being treated well. Therefore, I can keep them and continue on like before.’ Whereas they truly belong in the wild. Actually, the real problem, our real problem today is that our activity is obsolete. It belongs to another age, to another era. It’s never right to put animals in cages, especially in trailers, to roam them through Europe, to exhibit to people who have never seen them. Today, with all the means at our disposal, we no longer need to go to the circus at the supermarket’s parking lot to see animals on tar pavement and sometimes in conditions that do not justify their being exhibited to the public.” “We re-homed them. There were a few I couldn’t re-home. It’s more complicated to re-home pets, because they could end up in a slaughterhouse. And I was very afraid of that.” “I think it will benefit them (people) to see an example of a traditional circus renewed, with the same audience as the circus we had before, but without animals. Even amongst the audiences attending traditional animal circuses, there are people eager to watch a performance, to take the children to see real clowns, real trapeze artists, a true circus performance all the while free of any ill feeling about it. Well, these people, they do love the traditional circus! But there are a lot of them who feel uncomfortable today with animals being exhibited. So, my concern wasn’t the public when I decided to stop presenting animals, but I think that now is the right time to do so.”

An Elevating Christmas Celebration 2019, Part 6 of 6

27:49

An Elevating Christmas Celebration 2019, Part 6 of 6

Though I know it's all illusion, but for everyone else, it's not an illusion. I know you’re doing that every day, even though you’re busy, even though the world is binding you and dragging you down, and taking up every ounce of your strength and your time, you're still doing your best, you're still trying hard to help whenever wherever you can, in whichever aspect you can. And I want to really thank you and may Lord Jesus, may the Most High grant you all the best wishes, all the noble endeavors, and help you in your struggle in this world to stay awake, to rise up above the shackles of the illusionary prison. And I wish you well. I wish you the best. I wish you all the graces from God and from all the Saints and Sages, past, present, and future. Our world is changing, and all due to everyone also. Because of them, because of you, the world is getting better. And it will be paradise one day for your children to inherit, and that’s the right thing to do. I wish also all these groups, these organizations, these people, individuals who are sincerely and compassionately fighting for the weaker and less fortunate, such as the helpless, innocent animals, I do wish them also all the best. I wish all God’s graces on them. And you are my hands, my feet, my ears, my eyes, my extended beings. You think, you organize, you travel, you go long distances, sleepless or tired, but you continue to help others. So, I’m very happy with you and I thank you for going through everything with me over the years: going through karma, going through trial and tested, failing exams or not failing the exam in spiritual practice. And you still hang around, sticking in there. Just in case the karma sometimes drags me down, you stay faithful. You stay intact. Because no one, even the highest Saints, can be in this world without having to share the karma of the world.

An Elevating Christmas Celebration 2019, Part 5 of 6

The last performance is a merry dance titled “Jingle Bells” performed by the initiates from Âu Lạc (Vietnam). “Jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way Oh, what fun it is to ride In a one-horse open sleigh Now the ground is white Go it while you're young Take the girls tonight And sing this sleighing song Just get a bob tailed bay two-forty as his speed Hitch him to an open sleigh And crack! you'll take the lead” Next, we will give the time to our most beloved Master. Let’s humbly and sincerely invite Supreme Master Ching Hai to come on the stage. “Thank you, all of you, anyone who has to do with Supreme Master Television, even just to introduce, to print flyers to give to other people, to spread the good news. We are everywhere now, thanks to all of you, inside, outside and every side. I cannot do much without you, and I thank you very much. Thank you really, thank you. God bless you all. God bless you. Buddha bless you. Allah bless you. All the Godses in, from, and beyond Ihôs Kư, They’re all blessing you. They’re also very impressed by your devotion and your support. Anything you do, however minimal, to help the world, I am very grateful. And all beings are grateful to you; they are blessing you also. They’re thanking you and blessing you. And if I have any blessing, I also bless you. You get the blessing, you get the blessing. If you are here already, you partake something that I have, which we cannot prove, but we know it exists. And it is changing! There is no stop. There is no one who can stop the world and humanity to change for the better now. None. Nobody. And I have all the Godses to thank. And I have all of you to thank. Really, from the depth of my heart, thank you. I’m not very enthusiastic to have a retreat or anything, but I love you. If you say you miss me, I do miss you too because your pure heartedness that you brought with you whenever you come to see me, or you always have it with you, but of course, when you are here, I can see it. And your beautiful face, and your lovely smile, your sincerity, your improvement in the practice, and your love for other beings that you can see or feel on this planet - that really touches me. And I’m very grateful. I’m very, very proud of you. So, I still make this retreat for you. Just for you. Maybe I don’t sit with you all day, I don’t talk with you all the time, but I’m always with you. We’re together, especially when you are here, you partake of my treasure. Each one of you will take something home. And don’t worry if my Worth goes to zero or below zero, I’ll get it back. And even if I don’t get it back, who cares? I am not here to be worshipped, or to be obeyed, or to be even loved or respected. I am here just to offer myself for whoever needs it. So, I don’t care what happens. So please, do take whatever you can with you home. I do really love you. I do really love you.”

L’Écocirque: 100% Human Circus – Interview with André-Joseph Bouglione, Part 1 of 3

The Bouglione family is one of the most famous circus families in France. The Bouglione brothers have owned and directed Cirque d'Hiver in Paris since 1934. André-Joseph Bouglione created his own circus at the young age of 18 and named it the Joseph Bouglione Circus in honor of his grandfather, Joseph Bouglione. Realizing the cruelty of using live animals in the shows, in 2017 André-Joseph Bouglione decided to stop the inhumane practice and, together with his wife Sandrine Bouglione, he created L’Écocirque, a pioneering 100% human circus which replaces live animals with holograms. In 2018, André-Joseph Bouglione launched his book, “Against Animal Exploitation” (“Contre l'exploitation animale”), which shook up the circus world. André-Joseph proposes a new model for an eco-responsible circus, reinventing the profession and no longer accepting entertainment at the expense of the animals, whose freedom and wellbeing have been sacrificed by the industry for centuries. It is our great pleasure to have André-Joseph Bouglione with us today to share his story. “It was from living constantly with animals and from reflecting, working with them every day. And you know the animals: they live, they die, just like us! Except that, in their case, it happens much more frequently. Because their lifespan is shorter. With some animals, we developed a very strong relationship. You see them grow old and you see them die one day. Personally, I had an experience with a tiger that had a big impact on me.” “I couldn’t take it anymore. I couldn’t do it anymore, be it mentally, physically, morally. I would act, I would do things, I would go into the cage, I would introduce the wild animals, I would come out, I would pretend to laugh. Upon leaving, I felt devastated every time. I was forcing myself. Because I couldn’t figure out how to get out of it. And, most of all, I couldn’t face the public.”

"Next is the 'Merry Christmas Cowboy Dance'. The cowboy dance is originally the tap dance performed by American western cowboys. With fast and delightful rhythms and lively moves, the dance makes people feel cheerful." “Wow, so high-heeled and still can dance so fast. We women are so fantastic. I like everything.” "The Sound vibration from the Universe rings blessings and the Light throughout the Universe radiates warmth. We thank the great and merciful Master for turning the Earth into a vegan and peaceful planet with unlimited sacrifice and Love. Thank the Lord. Hallelujah." "O Master, You are the grace and gift bestowed on the world by God. You exemplify the unconditional Love and selfless devotion. You teach us to understand the true meaning of Christmas, which is to follow the spirit of Jesus Christ, to learn to share, to offer selflessly, to love others and all our animal friends." "During this warm season, in addition to caring for our friends and relatives afar, we also care for the less advantaged people and those who suffer. We care for all animal friends and hope that they and all people can be free, happy and respected to live on this beautiful planet together. We pray that the next Christmas, all humans on the five continents and all the animal co-inhabitants can spend the holiday in peace, beauty and happiness." "Now, our Association members from Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia, will perform traditional dances of the Bataknese." “Beautiful! Wow! Beautiful! (Master, I love You.) Love you too. This mantra, everybody says that every day. ‘I love you. I love you.’ The best mantra in the world. Everything from Indonesia is beautiful. God bless Indonesia. Beautiful people. If Master’s not here, how would you know all these kinds of beautiful people, right? (Yes.) Have to thank me, no? Beautiful, right? Yes. And you have a chance also to show your tradition, but you don’t do anything, you just sit there. Next time come up, OK? OK. It’s Christmas, we forgive you.”

Celebrating the 250th Birthday of Ludwig van Beethoven, Part 3 of 3

19:16

Celebrating the 250th Birthday of Ludwig van Beethoven, Part 3 of 3

Right after the completion of his fifth and sixth symphonies and fourth piano concerto, Beethoven started to work on his Piano concerto No. 5 in E-flat major Opus.73, commonly known as the Emperor Concerto, for its grandiose power and majestic melodies. In his late period, from 1815 to 1827, Beethoven revisited classical works by Baroque masters J. S. Bach and Handel and experimented in liturgical music, adding romantic flares to his compositions. His works from this period are greatly hailed for their new level of depth, expression and innovation, which includes his last five piano sonatas, last two sonatas for cello and piano, the thirty-three Diabelli Variations, and two titanic works: Missa Solemnis and the Ninth Symphony. Missa Solemnis was not only a dedication to his beloved friend, but also Beethoven’s sincere offering to God, glorifying his Divinity. The Mass is considered one of Beethoven’s definitive life works, and an astounding achievement. Influences from working on the Mass were evident, as he incorporated vocals into the symphony, something never seen before. Beethoven completed Symphony No. 9 in 1824 and it premiered in Vienna on May 7 that year with the largest orchestra he had ever assembled, including many famous young singers. After enduring years of severe illnesses, Ludwig van Beethoven passed away on March 26, 1827, amidst a thunderstorm. Romain Rolland, a French author and art historian wrote in his book Beethoven, “He is the most heroic soul in modern art. He is the grandest and the best friend of those who suffer and struggle.” He remains our immortal beloved and his music will resound through countless future generations.

Vegan Indian Drum Maker: Dr. K. Varadarangan

Vegan Indian Drum Maker: Dr. K. Varadarangan

"My name is Dr. K. Varadarangan. I reside in Bengaluru, India. On the music front, I have been learning music since a very young age and I’ve been a performer of Carnatic music. We turned vegan; that is, me and my wife both turned vegan in 2010, March, on our wedding anniversary day, after I came to know about the horrific practices of dairy, abusing the animals, the cows. So, in 2010, when I became vegan, I became very sensitive about items I used to use for daily use. And, of course, we eliminated all the non-vegan items from our lifestyle. But one thing that still remained was this percussion instrument called the mridangam. In fact, the mridangam is made of three animal skins - goat, cow, and buffalo. And I also came to know that cows are specifically slaughtered to make instrument, and I felt very depressed and sad. So the first idea was to give up performing on stage, so that I would not be part of this crime. But then an inner voice told me that's not enough, that if I quit performing, no big change. So I wanted to bring about a change that could even possibly help others, so I started thinking, ‘Why can't I invent a new instrument without leather, without animal skin and probably also wood?’ So I wanted to use an alternative material. I thought of fiberglass as a shell material but I didn't know how to make a head out of non-animal products. But then after a lot of research, many, many failures, months of failures, and completely sleepless nights, somehow I wanted to do it. I know the only thing that guided me was the passion to save animals from slaughter, because music is, everybody agrees it is divine and our Indian music particularly, which is very spiritual and divine in nature. We talk about only about these themes in our music, about spirituality, about divinity. And using the traditional instrument would be going against that very principle, so I decided to invent a synthetic head. So now I have been successful in making this instrument with a synthetic black spot which is Syahi. And also the membrane is now a polyester film. Dr. Varadarangan’s vegan drums are not only ethical, but also have many advantages over the traditional type. They are light in weight, user friendly and durable. Their pitch does not vary with temperature. What’s more, they allow musicians to tune them precisely. It’s no wonder that these vegan drums have been in high demand.

Celebrating Hanukkah – The Jewish Festival of Lights

15:00

Celebrating Hanukkah – The Jewish Festival of Lights

Hanukkah is observed on the 25th day of Kislev, or the third month in the Hebrew lunar calendar, and usually falls in late November or late December in the Gregorian calendar. The word Hanukkah means “dedication,” which refers to the rededication of the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem in the year 165 BCE in the Hebrew calendar. The rededication story celebrates one of the greatest miracles in Jewish history. At one point, the sacred temple had fallen into ruin, but with their sincere devotion to be one with God, the Jewish people patiently cleaned every inch of the holy place, built a new altar, and repaired the whole structure. After the restoration was completed, they dedicated it to God once again. Thus is the origin of Hanukkah and its “rededication.” Hanukkah is called the Festival of Lights to symbolize the triumph of light over darkness, indicating a celebrative moment when God’s light shines upon longing souls. Traditionally, the eight candle lights of Hanukkah represent a miracle that happened while restoring the Jewish Temple. There was only a small container of pure olive oil sufficient to light the menorah for only one night, but after they lit the menorah, it stayed alight for eight straight nights! This miracle assured God’s presence, and the sages of the Jewish faith appointed these eight days for an annual celebration. Thus, throughout Hanukkah, all Jewish family members partake in the nightly lighting of the menorah, an important custom that echoes the heart of this festival. Hanukkah is celebrated by enjoying traditional foods, playing games, and exchanging gifts. The Hanukkah holiday is filled with joy and festivities. It is a time for families, friends, and the entire community to gather together in a positive and amiable atmosphere to celebrate the historical resilience of the Jewish people. During this year’s Festival of Lights, let us bathe in renewed faith of the Divine blessings, and unite in understanding, in peace, and in the love that transcends all of God’s children, human and non-human alike.

Celebrating the 250th Birthday of Ludwig van Beethoven, Part 2 of 3

16:37

Celebrating the 250th Birthday of Ludwig van Beethoven, Part 2 of 3

In our last episode we learned about Beethoven’s childhood, early youth and young adulthood events that lead to his first compositional style period with musical works greatly influenced by Haydn and Mozart. Today we retrace history back to Beethoven’s middle period, commonly accepted as the end of 1802 to 1815, when his musical genius began to mature and evolve. Many of Beethoven’s well-known large scale works come from these productive years, including six symphonies from the Third to Eighth, his only opera, “Fidelio,” his only violin concerto, the last two piano concertos, a few overtures, some chamber music pieces such as string quartets Nos. 7-11, and seven piano sonatas. In this middle period, Beethoven goes beyond the normal conventions of classicism and begins to add human elements into his music; the struggles, the triumphs, and the joy. Sometimes people call this stage in life Beethoven’s “Heroic” period. As early as 1797 or 1798, Beethoven started to experience the loss of hearing. Dependant on intricate sounds, this was a tragic dark cloud that enshrouded the great composer. Beethoven courageously wrestled with his cruel fate with a mighty strength of will to fulfil his musical purpose. He composed the Tempest sonata and sketched the inspirations for his Third Symphony while living in Heiligenstadt. In the autumn of 1802, Beethoven returned to Vienna with inspiration for a “new path” to pursue. This marked the beginning of his change in style, to infuse music with more depth of emotion, earnest expressions, and originality. In a letter to his friend Dr. Franz Wegeler in 1801, Beethoven declared that he would not let deafness defeat him, challenging his fate he wrote, “It shall certainly not bend and crush me completely.” His Fifth Symphony is a manifestation of his fearless courage and mighty determination. From the first note to the last, the inspiring power and emotional intensity of the piece speaks of Beethoven’s struggles and celebrates his triumph.

Art in a Pandemic, Part 2 of 2

To contain the spread of Covid-19, more than a third of the world’s population went into various forms of lockdown at one time or another, with some countries implementing the most restrictive mass quarantines ever seen. In a time when normal social contact is not possible, music helps people connect, share their joys and sadness to ease the loneliness of lockdown. Music can comfort, give strength, and inspire hope. After the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, China, forty artists from France, Canada, Italy and other countries sent their well wishes to the Chinese people through a song called “Together.” As Covid-19 spread to Europe, Italy saw rapid infections, overwhelming the country’s hospitals and medical personnel. A strict lockdown was implemented and its citizens helplessly watched as the virus claimed more victims, sometimes close neighbors. In a difficult time when sadness clouded the rays of hope, people took to the balconies to play music and sing songs of encouragement. Inspired by Italy, people from different countries also stepped outside to remotely send messages of solidarity via music. Virtual concerts and choirs have become very popular because of the lockdown. Utilizing online tools and technology, musicians are able to collaborate with each other for amazing performances. Laura Campbell from Melbourne, Australia, founded the Virtual Concert Band as a means for musicians of all skill levels from around the world to cooperate and create music. The online platform has recordings submitted by 225 musicians from 29 different countries. Some annual musical events also went virtual. The April 30th International Jazz Day that was scheduled to be held in Cape Town, South Africa, was celebrated through a virtual global concert. We offer our sincere thanks and prayers for all the musicians around the world. May you always have the support and comforts needed to continue your beautiful, uplifting work. We also pray that when we come out of this Covid-19 crisis, we will be more compassionate for one another and for all sentient beings.

An Elevating Christmas Celebration 2019, Part 1 of 6

Honoring the birth of the Worshipped Lord Jesus Christ, on Christmas Day 2019, our Association members from around the world gathered for a meditation retreat at the New Land Ashram in Taiwan, also known as Formosa, and enjoyed a happy vegan celebration in the benevolent presence of our Most Compassionate Supreme Master Ching Hai. The colorful programs, which included vibrant dances, beautiful singing and a heartfelt poetry recitation, brought much joy for the Christmas season. After the entertainment program, Master lovingly imparted a most touching speech before cutting the vegan cake. “With utmost respect, we thank the Ultimate Master, the Lord of the whole universe, Supreme Master Ching Hai, who has saved us from the control of the maya, the negative power and the karma force. We also thank all Godses and all Celestial Beings in the universe who combined all their powers to destroy the maya. Now, let us enjoy the merry performances, which will be presented by members of the Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association to celebrate this unprecedented victory. The first performance is by the initiates from Âu Lạc (Vietnam), titled ‘Feliz Navidad (Merry Christmas).’ Let our heart be immersed in the music and lyrics to welcome the coming of a peaceful, happy and glorious world.” “Dear friend, be happy! Let us celebrate a peaceful Christmas Let us hold hands and sing joyous songs Now and forever, together in our hearts. Merry Christmas, prosperous year of happiness” “Master said that from now on, we have to be responsible for our own actions, because there is no maya, nor negative power, nor karma force for us to blame anymore. We have to correct our own negative habits. If we have any negative thought, we should correct it immediately. Follow Master’s lead. Let Master guide us. Let Master’s image always be in our heart. The next performance is ‘Be Thou My Vision.’ The background music is an Irish Christian hymn. Here are the lyrics: Be Thou my vision, oh Lord of my heart, Be Thou my vision, Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art, Thou my best thought, by day or by night, Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.”

Celebrating the 250th Birthday of Ludwig van Beethoven, Part 1 of 3

Celebrating the 250th Birthday of Ludwig van Beethoven, Part 1 of 3

December 16, 2020 marks the 250th birthday of Ludwig van Beethoven, one of the greatest music composers in the history of our world. Across the globe, concerts and events are being planned to commemorate the birth of this musical genius. Beethoven continued the Classical legacies of Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and evolved music into a new era of Romanticism, characterized by dramatic melodies that evoked powerful emotions. He expanded musical composition from a formal aesthetic style to allow freer individual expression of feelings and ideas. Some of his musical innovations waited for almost a century before finding composers who could truly comprehend and apply them to their own compositions. Triumphing over physical suffering and countless hardships in life, Beethoven imbues his music with joy and expressive freedom as if to celebrate the resolve and immense strength of the human spirit. Beethoven’s rare musical talent was revealed at a young age. Beethoven first performed publicly on March 26, 1778 when he was seven years old. On March 29, 1795, Beethoven gave his first public performance in Vienna, premiering his Piano Concerto No. 1. Beethoven grew to be a fully accomplished composer after establishing himself as the finest piano virtuoso in Vienna. During this period, an extraordinary surge of creativity produced a large body of works, including his first and second symphonies, his first three piano concertos, and his first twenty piano sonatas, including the famous “Pathetique” and “Moonlight,” as well as nine of his ten violin sonatas with piano, the most popular being “Spring” and “Kreutzer,” plus many other piano pieces, chamber music works, and songs. We’ll now conclude this episode with some joyful notes from Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No. 5 in F major, Opus 24, commonly known as the “Spring Sonata,” which was completed in 1801 and dedicated to the Austria nobleman, banker and patron of the arts, Count Moritz von Fries. The “Spring Sonata” is one of Beethoven’s happiest creations during the springtime of his life, a sublime taste of beauty, innocence, and clarity.

Art in a Pandemic, Part 1 of 2

Art in a Pandemic, Part 1 of 2

In today’s program, we would like to share with you some inspiring and stunning visual pieces created by artists around the world in response to the pandemic. Mumbai-based artist, Dhruvi Acharya, created a series of pieces that depict her thoughts and worries related to COVID-19. Her watercolor paintings portray a socially distant and masked human existence, the courage of healthcare workers and the travails of migrant laborers. Dhruvi Acharya says, “I hope we all understand we need to prioritize health, family, the lives of other creatures, nature, science, and education above weapons, war, religious fanaticism, mindless development, and production. And I hope we will pay heed to scientists’ warnings about the climate change that will affect all of humanity and learn to value our earth, or else we will keep suffering in a constant cycle of disasters and diseases.” In addition to creating pieces that reflect daily living, artists also pay tribute to healthcare workers. In China, artist Shu Yong created a series of paintings that are currently on exhibition at the Hunan Provincial Museum. The exhibition, titled Tribute to Heroes, seeks to honor the medical staff and ordinary people who contributes to the fight against the coronavirus. Shu Yong says, “Each of these paintings is a tribute to the medic personnel who are fighting on the frontlines against the virus, saving thousands. Eventually, I will donate these paintings to these heroes.” When it comes to lessons learned during the pandemic, there have been reflections on urgent issues such as climate change and the depletion of resources. French Designer, Nicholas Abdelkader, created a photoshopped series of pictures called “The Urgency to Slow Down,” envisioning a future where nature merges with civilization. He created this green future by adding trees and shrubs on top of planes, cars, tanks and even a space rocket, reimagining symbols of energy consumption into something more beneficial for the environment. Mr. Abdelkader said, “I would like people to be able to question their 'current' place in the world, their relationship to nature and the impact of their decisions -- especially on consumption -- on ... biodiversity in its entirety. Yes, planet Earth is sick. Yes, it's scary. But to heal it and heal us too, I believe that more than ever we need joyful perspectives and positive messages to help us be collectively creative.” We thank all the artists for sharing their work to kindle life and inspire thought. We wish art continues to promote positive change, creating lasting peace on Earth.

A Gentle Stroll in the Classical Garden with Frédéric Chopin, Part 2 of 2

A Gentle Stroll in the Classical Garden with Frédéric Chopin, Part 2 of 2

Frédéric Chopin was one of the most original, gifted, and uplifting artists of the 19th century. He mesmerized audiences with his technically astounding yet poetically expressive performances. In his short lifetime, he gave only 30 large public concerts, preferring his intimate, glorious music to be played in smaller gatherings, such as in the salons of Paris, where he spent the latter years of his life. Let’s now enjoy the third movement of Chopin’s Piano Sonata No.3 in B minor. The sonata was dedicated to Countess Emilie de Perthuis, and is considered to be one of Chopin’s most technically difficult compositions. This third movement is “Largo,” meaning with a slow tempo. It starts with a dotted rhythm moving in a steady pace, before the middle section transforms the mood with a more dream-like texture. Finally, the main theme comes back, with a purling accompaniment in triplets. The piece is performed by the exceptional, award-winning Polish pianist, Mr. Grzegorz Niemczuk. His music not only embodies, but transcends, Romanticism with its poetic, harmonic universally empathic expressions. Let’s listen to the final movement of Chopin’s Piano Sonata No.3 in B minor played by the amazing vegan professional pianist, Dr. Chang Shao-Hsun from Taiwan, also known as Formosa. This piece is infused with vigor and inexplicable coalescence of energies and brilliance, all of which require full strength and technical virtuosity from the pianist. Frédéric Chopin, what a musical gift from God! We thank Dr. Chang Shao-Hsun, Mr. Grzegorz Niemczuk, and all of the other talented musicians for allowing us to enjoy the extraordinary works of Chopin.
