In today’s news, Germany supports South Sudan during humanitarian crisis, Australian eucalyptus forests thinning and emitting more carbon, UK charity initiative keeps people in housing, Nepal initiates new pact for migrant worker welfare, brave officers and Good Samaritan in United States rescue child from burning home, culinary student in New Zealand turns potatoes into ice cream, and Hong Kong scientists hope to save endangered cockatoo-people with nest boxes.

Staying clean in and around the house brings me joy. Here’s a tip on how to clean curtains without taking them down. Secure a soft brush attachment on the hose part of the vacuum and work your way from the top to the bottom. Focus on areas where dust accumulates such as the curtain rod, pleats, and folds. If you see any stains, apply a small amount of detergent onto a damp microfiber cloth to spot-treat and blot the stains to prevent damage to the fabric. Then use a handheld steamer to freshen up the curtains while eliminating bacteria and removing dust and wrinkles. Lastly, do one more round of vacuuming to remove any dust that may have appeared while cleaning. Get in the habit of doing this process regularly, even though you should still wash your curtains every three to six months.

Coming up is a little joke to make you smile. This one’s entitled “Classic Tech.”

A mother gave her eight-year-old son, Charlie, a journal as a present. When he received the gift, Charlie was mystified.

“Mom, what am I supposed to do with this? The pages are all blank.”

“You just write down interesting stuff that happens to you.”

“Oh, so, it’s like a blog... on paper.”
