Theoklitos Proestakis: Savior of Crete’s Homeless Dogs and Cats

Today we will share a touching story about a wonderful man who is a Shining World Compassion Award laureate and has rescued over 1,000 abandoned or stray dogs and cats. He has to work 20 hours each day and hardly has any time to rest, only sleeping 2-3 hours daily. “But for me, I just feel that I want to help them when I see these dogs suffering from pain. They have a soul, so I want to help them. It makes me feel so good.” In 2019, along with giving Theoklitos Proestakis the Shining World Compassion Award to recognize his splendid work on behalf of homeless animals, Supreme Master Ching Hai made a kind contribution of US$15,000 to the Takis Shelter. And as this show is being presented to you, Supreme Master Ching Hai: further "arrange to send US$30,000 to this compassionate shelter. With all love and tears of sympathy as well as gratitude to Theoklitos Proestakis and all helpers."

Divine Love Never Ends

In a joyful celebration held on October 25, 1993, in Hawaii, USA, the then-mayor of the city and county of Honolulu, the Honorable Frank F. Fasi, proclaimed October 25th as “Supreme Master Ching Hai Day” and presented Master with the International Peace Commendation Award, Honorary Citizenship, Certificate of Merit, and a bronze bust of Her likeness that is permanently displayed in a Honolulu public park. He noted Her enormous contributions to philanthropic and humanitarian causes around our world and referred to Her as “an angel of mercy for humanity.” Throughout the years, Supreme Master Ching Hai has generously provided financial assistance across the globe. Master said that each time She makes a contribution, She wishes that She could give more. She always humbly attributes all Her charitable deeds to God. Master mostly performs charitable acts anonymously, while providing assistance to the most neglected and vulnerable. Master’s selfless care, unconditional sacrifice, and steadfast nobility are true examples of the all-encompassing love of God. Her constant connection with the Higher Realms is also apparent in Her abundant creative talents and deep appreciation of artists. Master has often emphasized the important role that artists play, by declaring the International Artist Day, in order to honor the inspired beings who bring so much beauty and love to our world. To benefit more sentient beings, Supreme Master Ching Hai created Supreme Master Television, in order to broadcast constructive programming, and inspire the world to embrace Her Vision of a peaceful planet. As many viewers have expressed, Supreme Master Television is a gift from God, bringing about wondrous and miraculous changes to the world. The ever-compassionate and merciful Supreme Master Ching Hai cares and protects all beings with Her indiscriminate and selfless love. It is Her longtime wish and sincere hope that the whole world will soon embrace veganism and obtain peace. Supreme Master Ching Hai’s deep, unconditional love is felt by all sentient beings. It is Her unconditional love that made Her descend to Earth in order to help this world; it is Her unconditional love that causes Her to return life after life, in order to liberate countless souls. In the benevolent spirit of Supreme Master Ching Hai Day, let us return to our original compassionate nature and live in harmony with all beings, humans and non-human alike, just as God intended. Most Beloved Master, we send to You our eternal gratitude for all Your all-embracing love and sacrifice. May You continue to shine in Your ever-youthful beauty with safety, good health, and contentment, as together we usher in a brilliant vegan era on Earth. Happy Supreme Master Ching Hai Day!

New Story and ICON: Pioneering Solutions to Homelessness

New Story and ICON: Pioneering Solutions to Homelessness

When Brett Hagler of the United States was 18, he developed a rare form of cancer. Surviving that experience changed the way he thought about his life and what really matters. Brett visited Haiti several years after the 2010 earthquake and was shocked to see tens of thousands of people still living in tents and other temporary accommodations. When he returned to San Francisco, California, USA, he met Alexandria Lafci, who shared his sentiments, and together they decided to develop ways of providing housing to families that need it the most. With their friend, Matthew Marshall, they cofounded a nonprofit called New Story Charity, and started raising money through crowdfunding to build five homes in Haiti. The success of New Story’s first project inspired Brett and Alexandria to challenge themselves. In 2017, New Story connected with a construction technologies company in Austin, Texas, USA, that had reached the same conclusion. Jason Ballard, co-founder and CEO of ICON, was looking for a home-building solution that would be affordable, scalable and sustainable. New Story and ICON partnered to design a 3D printer that could build a house. Instead of extruding plastic like smaller 3D printers, their machine pumps out a special mortar-like material that they call “Lavacrete.” New Story and ICON have evolved the printer and the process so that they can provide homes even faster and cheaper. The second iteration of the 3D printer is called the Vulcan II. It is gantry-style on rails, meaning a bridge-like structure with a platform that supports the actual printer as it moves around the building’s floor plan. ICON’s Lavacrete is adaptable for ambient temperature and humidity, the altitude of the location as well as the desired printing speed. With the Vulcan II, all mixing, pumping and delivery are automated via the software, thus no manual measuring or dumping is required. Using a layer-by-layer approach, Lavacrete is extruded from the printer head and stacked up according to a digital model. Finished structures are beautiful in their simplicity, long-lasting and afford protection from extreme weather conditions. At New Story, the word “employee” is not used. They prefer to think of themselves as a team of founders. They cherish a shared vision of putting an end to homelessness and consider it a rare privilege to be able to give hope and happiness to so many people.

Reverend Pastor Robert Munro (vegan) of The Humanitarian Church

00:14:24

Reverend Pastor Robert Munro (vegan) of The Humanitarian Church

Reverend Pastor Robert Munro, or as he likes to be called, Pastor Rob, is the founder of The Saint Francis of Assisi Parish of The Humanitarian Church – a whole food, plant-based vegan house of worship in Erieville, New York, USA. Pastor Rob preaches a vegan sermon there every Sunday. The Humanitarian Church’s mission is “To introduce the Whole Food Plant Based Diet to impoverished, unhealthy communities throughout the world so as to provide freedom from illness… and cease the consumption of animal products so as to honor the commandment, ‘THOU SHALT NOT KILL’.” In 2010, at the age of 50, Pastor Rob’s life changed when he suffered his third stroke. His left side was paralyzed, his left eye was blind, and he was unable to talk or walk. The doctors gave him six months to live. Twenty-six days after becoming vegan, the paralysis on his left side was gone, his vision returned, and he stopped slurring and drooling. Not only did he fully recover, but he also became healthier than ever. Two years after becoming vegan, he experienced a profound spiritual moment, realizing that animal flesh in the body blocks the connection to God. “So, I decided to give everything to the church, live on minimal things, just (vegan) food. Because I need 5,000 lifetimes to make up for the 5,000 animals that died for me to eat them. I can't create life. So the best I can do is give my life in the service of God.” Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Gratefully present Reverend Pastor Robert Munro with the Shining World Compassion Award, along with a humble loving gift of US$10,000 to support your vegan Humanitarian Church. Lots of love, praises and prayers for your mission’s success, in God’s mercy.”

In 2019, there were 18 individuals presented the Gusi Peace Prize. Supreme Master Ching Hai was invited by the Gusi Foundation to attend the 2019 awards ceremony. Unable to join due to the carbon footprint from flying to the Philippines and Her many work obligations. She sent a loving recorded message to the attendees. We now present the second half of Master’s message that was played during the Gusi Peace Prize Awards Night held on November 27, 2019. “If we don’t demand their flesh, if we don’t eat them, if we boycott the animal-meat cruelty, so-called industry, then they will be safe, saved and in real peace. Then we truly contribute to world peace: real, whole world peace. I am speaking from my own experience. Your conscience will be free, your health will be good and your hearts will be really at peace, now and always.”

Dr. Anita Krajnc (vegan) and the Animal Save Movement, Part 1 of 3

00:13:24

Dr. Anita Krajnc (vegan) and the Animal Save Movement, Part 1 of 3

Today, we have the honor of meeting Dr. Krajnc, the Canadian co-founder of Toronto Pig Save and the worldwide Animal Save Movement. Anita is a former political science professor at Queen’s University in the province of Ontario, Canada, who has studied how social movements move forward through public education. She is also a vegan. “Toronto Pig Save started doing 3 vigils a week in July 2011, and what we did was we would bear witness to the pigs on a traffic island when the trucks would stop. It’s such a powerful thing to meet the animals before they go to the slaughterhouse and to see their faces and look into their eyes. We called it bearing witness.” One of the devoted volunteers at Toronto Pig Save was the late Regan Russell. A former model, she had been advocating for animal rights since 1977. In late 2019, a bill was introduced in Ontario’s legislature making it illegal to interact with animals while they are being transported and expose the violence against animals in slaughterhouses and farms. Anita, Regan, and many other animal rights activists vehemently opposed the bill. It was passed into law on June 17, 2020. Two days later, it was a very hot day, and Regan and the other activists were giving water to the pigs on the trucks. Regan stood for several minutes in the road in front of the slaughterhouse to stop a truck so that the pigs could get water. The truck accelerated unexpectedly. Regan was killed. Vigils were held all over the world for Regan Russell. This beautiful soul’s compassion and her belief in justice and peace for all animals will always be remembered. We thank Dr. Anita Krajnc and her fellow animal advocates for their courage, and hope we can all work together to make the Earth a kinder and more beautiful place. Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Gratefully present Dr. Anita Krajnc with the Shining World Compassion Award, with a humble, loving gift of US$15,000 towards your noble organizations, Toronto Pig Save and the Animal Save Movement. Lots of love, praises and prayers for your safety and success, in God’s mercy.”

From Saving the Earth to the Journey of Exploring the Mysteries of the Cosmos to Universal Peace, Part 2 of 5

From Saving the Earth to the Journey of Exploring the Mysteries of the Cosmos to Universal Peace, Part 2 of 5

We really do need all the help from the government, from the media, to accelerate the trend. Another good way to quicken our movement to a sustainable planet is to generate more positive energy: do good deeds and be loving and kind. Expand our loving quality. This is what will create a shield, invincible, to protect us and the planet. Finally, we can pray that divine power manifests on Earth to awaken leaders, media, influential people, and all the world citizens to take the right steps to preserve our planet. If we can do these things, starting with being veg, we would realize not just a sustainable planet, but a real paradise of peace in our lifetime.

A Prayer for Compassion: An Interview with Filmmaker Thomas Wade Jackson (vegan), Part 1 of 4

Mr. Thomas Wade Jackson is an award-winning American filmmaker, photographer and musician. “I pray and meditate before all the interviews. I just say, ‘I’m here, whatever You need, use me like that force of love and life. Use me to make a better world.’ And I encourage us all to just be open to being vessels. Like the prayer of Saint Francis: Let me be an instrument of love and peace and compassion. And what I've discovered, which is a spoiler alert for the film, but all of the traditions I interviewed are in total alignment with a vegan lifestyle. Not only that, a vegan lifestyle exemplifies their teachings of compassion. One of the things I really have become very excited about is interfaith. We created an Interfaith Vegan Coalition in 2016. You see us create it in the film, because when I first had the idea, I just knew it’d be about spirituality and veganism. Now, my first interview was with Victoria Moran, who is our producer connecting me with everybody. She says, ‘You know, all religions have compassion as one of their base things. Can’t we all agree, despite whatever your religion is, that we should be compassionate to each other, and to all of life?’ That’s the thing that really connects all religions. So, I believe compassion is the door into bringing peace between the religions, because I’ll tell you, interviewing people from all these walks [of life], they all have similar things in common. They all share that we have a body temple, that there’s a spirit that resides in that body temple, that you should take care of that body temple, that’s very clear. That goes right with a plant-based diet. It goes right along. They all say, ‘You should take care of the environment, be stewards of creation.’ We should be concerned that we are polluting our water, and that we’re using our water. Each of us, if we are spiritual, we are stewards here and we have a responsibility to take care of this planet. Every path that I studied tells us that, and that goes along with a vegan diet, a lot less of a footprint. And the third thing they have in common is that they tell us, ‘We should take care of each other.’ And the fourth thing I would say is that all the paths tell us we should be taking care of animals; we should be loving animals. So they’re our companions. That animals are not here to be eaten, that they are our companions, and that we should only eat healthy plants. When it comes to compassion, doing the least harm to all of creation is the tenet of all these paths. I would say compassion is not only leading us down to a vegan path, but it’s also our connection with the inner faith of bringing us together, giving us something that we can work on together.”

Successful Refugees and Immigrants Leading the Way, Part 3: Pioneering Surgeon Dr. Munjed Al Muderis

Successful Refugees and Immigrants Leading the Way, Part 3: Pioneering Surgeon Dr. Munjed Al Muderis

Dr. Munjed Al Muderis was born in Baghdad, Iraq. After graduating, he worked as a surgery resident at Baghdad University Hospital. One day in 1999, while he was on duty at the hospital, he and his colleagues were suddenly ordered by the authorities to immediately perform a very harmful procedure on a group of men who were just brought to the facility or face very grave consequences. Owing to his conscience and firm belief in justice, Dr. Al Muderis did not obey the order. After hiding for a few hours in the hospital, he quietly left, and eventually managed to leave the country. After spending time in the Middle East, Malaysia and Indonesia, he boarded an overcrowded boat headed for Australia. In 2010, Dr. Al Muderis started his career in orthopedic surgery. He is now a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Australian Orthopedic Association, an associate professor in the University of Notre Dame Australia’s School of Medicine and founder of a medical practice called the Osseointegration Group of Australia. He developed a new generation of osseointegration prosthetic limbs that solve many issues that patients faced before. Specifically, he specializes in leg replacements for above and below the knee amputees and is considered a world-leading surgeon in the osseointegration field. Dr. Al Muderis is actively engaged in various practical actions to help refugees and supports Australia’s community sponsorship program for such individuals. He is a patron of the Asylum Seekers Centre, Sanctuary Australia Foundation, New South Wales Amputee Association, and the Australian Red Cross. Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Appreciatively present Dr. Al Muderis with the Shining World Compassion Award plus US$20,000 as a humble token of support, (if allowed,) toward the refugee-foundation under his care. Thank you for giving so many the gift of happiness through independent mobility by your skilled hands and making our world more aware of the plight of asylum seekers and refugees. May Allah always bless you abundantly.”

Peera Ram (vegetarian): Compassionate Earth Hero of Rajasthan

Bishnoi is a Hindu group in northern India, particularly concentrated in the state of Rajasthan, whose members abide by 29 precepts given by Sri Guru Jambheshwar. These include bans on killing animals and felling green trees, as well as directives to worship God daily and protect all forms of life. Today we will share with you a heartwarming story about Peera Ram, a mechanic by trade, who belongs to the Bishnoi family of devotees. One day, a chinkara gazelle was hit by a car as Peera Ram was arriving at work. Recalling the incident during a 2018 interview with TheBetterIndia.com, Peera Ram said, “My heart shivered. I ran to the spot, picked the distressed animal in my lap, hailed a vehicle and took it to the veterinary hospital.” This marked the beginning of his special calling to rescue and rehabilitate injured wildlife. His family, who shared his sentiments and were pleased to see this new chapter unfolding in his life, gave him their complete support. With the help of some like-minded conservation activists, Peera Ram registered a non-government organization to lend legitimacy to his activities. Although he started the sanctuary called Bishnoi Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation by himself, Peera Ram credits the goodwill and generosity of his supporters for the facility’s success. Over the years, Peera Ram and his devoted staff have expanded the sanctuary that now shelters 600 animals to 2.5 hectares. Since 2008, Peera Ram has helped more than 1,200 injured animals and nurtured about 7,200 trees, which are essential to a sustainable desert environment. Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Joyfully present Peera Ram with the Shining World Compassion Award, and a token gift of US$16,000 to support the animal lives-saving care provided by Bishnoi Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation. May God bless you, all involved and the animals you treat and safeguard.”

Super Seal Conservation in South Africa & Canada

Supreme Master Ching Hai explained why seals are so vital to our planet during a 2009 interview with the Irish journalist Louise Kings. “The seals have conveyed that it is important for them to be allowed to stay on Earth - not for themselves, but so they can continue doing their job, which is to keep the Earth in balance with love. You see, the seals and the whales emanate an incredible, great power of divine love, an unconditional love that could be likened to that between a mother and her child. They anchor and distribute this wave of love across our planet. And it is this love that is sustaining our planet and keeping it from destruction up to now. So , we should never ever hunt and kill these noble, gracious helpers of humankind and the planet.”

Katie Cantrell: Presenting the Realities of Food Sustainability and Animal Welfare

Welcome to our program “Katie Cantrell: Presenting the Realities of Food Sustainability and Animal Welfare,” that introduces an admirable American vegan activist and the non-profit organization she created, the Factory Farming Awareness Coalition (FFAC). The Coalition’s mission is to inform and empower the people to save animals and the environment, as well as highlight the benefits we can gain by changing our everyday food choices. Katie and other FFAC members have made 2,000-plus presentations, which are free of charge and last for about 45 minutes. Over the years, the non-profit has reached over 111,000 people. FFAC wants to help create an informed consumer who will demand plant-based products because they have a basic understanding of where food comes from and highly value a sustainable food system.

00:10:38

Ronen Bar (vegan): Bringing Animal Suffering to Light, Part 3 of 3

Today, we hear Ronen speak about kosher foods as well as cultured meat. Kosher means that the product has been certified to meet Jewish dietary laws. Both animal products and animal-free foods can be kosher. “Unfortunately, kosher doesn't mean that there was no animal cruelty. [It’s] the other way around. All the kosher meat sold in Israel is entangled, is connected to animal cruelty.” “The only kosher from a moral perspective is, of course, plant-based food.” “And when I look at all of this effort, endeavor, to help animals, I see two main aspects. The first one is raising consciousness, which will make people give up some of their comfort in order not to hurt animals. So raising consciousness is very important. The other one is technology. Technology will make it much easier for people not to hurt animals. So you don't have to give up so much or change so much in order for you not to hurt animals. And these two efforts, are coming and helping each other and feeding each other.” “I'm the chairperson of the board at the Modern Agriculture Foundation. It's a nonprofit focused on promoting alternative proteins, which means that we don't do the R&D (research and development), the scientific work ourselves. Our job is to make sure others will do it. So we reach out to scientists, to entrepreneurs, to companies, to big food companies and to investors, everybody in the space that can enlarge the effort to make cell-based meat and make plant-based meats commercially viable and cheap and tasty as fast as possible.” “I have to say that from an ethical standpoint, the best thing is just to eat the plain soy and legumes and cereals. The effort to make the cell-based meats, the mimicking of the animal protein meats consumes more resources from the environment. Nevertheless, they're still very good compared to animal-based products.” “I think all of them are really in a totally different category than meat, of course, because they're more environmentally-friendly, or you can say less contributing to animal genocide, and because they don't hurt animals directly, like factory farming is doing.”

A Prayer for Compassion: An Interview with Filmmaker Thomas Wade Jackson (vegan), Part 3 of 4

Today we present to you more from our engaging interview with the gifted and caring American filmmaker and vegan activist Thomas Wade Jackson. He’ll walk us through the compelling spiritual reasons for embracing a plant-based diet. “The choices we make every day, that dollar we’re spending is the most important vote we’re making, and that it is what’s feeding the instrument that is destroying the planet. And what we’re seeing over and over as more people go vegan, these corporations that have been destroying the planet are suddenly like, ‘Oh, I’m going to have a vegan option.’ These dairies that have been in families for years are like, ‘Oh, we’re out of that business, we’re going into oat farming’ or whatever. Because we are voting with our dollar. So, it’s so important that as you spend your money, you find out what you’re voting for.” “For me, those four pillars of the exercise, sleep, meditation, and good clean food, making sure you’re getting your nutrients, have made it where I not only feel energy and good every day, but it’s hard for me to get anxious. My body just feels so good and has the energy now because I am honoring this temple, that is housing this beautiful spirit, that is within all of us. And I honor it fully. And I’ve become more and more aligned, and I feel better and better and better.” Let’s now focus more on the keyword of Mr. Jackson’s documentary titled “A Prayer for Compassion.” What exactly constitutes “compassion”? The film director kindly answers as follows: “And then I looked up the definition of compassion. And I realized, ‘Oh, wow, it’s a two-fold definition. It’s not just empathy. It’s like, having empathy for another’s suffering. That’s the first half of compassion. If you only have that, you really only have empathy. The second half is to the point of being motivated to take action to alleviate that suffering.’ So the second half is being motivated to do something, and so I like to tell people eating a plant-based diet is doing something three or four times a day, you’re taking an action three or four times a day to vote when you buy it, and to take care of your body when you eat it, and to be an example, for those around you who are watching your health improve and your energy improve.”
